I would absolutely buy a "Bob Reynolds plays standards" album. That would become a staple for me! And invite Franceschini onto it! Oh that would be dope!
been practicing against a wall or a music stand for years. I can understand how this would help a lot

Made mine, too. :)
Your joy when you realized it worked was awesome. Curious if you noticed anything different about your tone/sound since you've been using it? Great as always Bob.
I love the moment at @6:28. Your enthusiasm is infectious. :)
I definitely going to give it a try. Thank you for this vlog. Cool!
Yo! Guitar player from Atl here. Just want to say thank you for putting out your work of quality videos. They're super insightful and inspiring! Thank you keep it up!

Thanks, Ryan!
I've been playing in front of a huge ass mirror in my house for a couple of months now. I drag it next to my stereo system so I can transcribe licks while focusing on my tone. I think it has done wonders to my playing. Not only I can actually hear myself and the practising becomes so much more dynamic, but also, very weirdly, seeing the sax makes me connect to it so much more. I feel as if I can tell the exact amount of air pressure that each note needs when I'm seeing myself playing. I don't know what it is really. Plus seeing my fingers helps me in correcting my technique issues. Great videos Bob.

Practicing in front of a mirror is a GREAT thing to do. I haven't got one in this studio (yet) but always utilize them when I can.
We always say emotions are expressed through music. 6:36 Those are the lines of a happy man!!!
You should try Addictive Drums 2, it has many, many drum sets, and the jazz sets especially are awesome, you can even choose between sticks and brushes, and the loops are great, you will hardly ever have to write your own again.
Good sound and idea !!!!
Thanks Bob
no problem i'm watching this vídeo Bob cool
Mr. Tom Ploeger co-inventor of the Sound Mirror passed away this past March. Jack Kripl is alive and well in the Bahamas.
I dig the Ploeger and years ago I used to bring it on every gig (and got some sideways looks from the other cats). My only gripe about it is the clip will break from repeatedly opening and closing it. I ended up buying new ones a couple of times. I have a couple unopened that I bought recently. You've inspired me to start practicing with it again.

You have any to spare?
Great channel Bob! Just found you. It seems like there isn't enough musicians creating channels for themselves to promote. We just started up our channel out in Phoenix AZ to do just that in the essence and feel of a vlog yet post original performances as well. Consider us a new subscriber of yours! Keep on keepin on!
you sound good!
I was gonna suggest a mic and headphone feed thru your DAW, but that's a low tech solution right there👍
thanks
Great stuff Bob!!!. I think you have just doubled that companys sales for the next year. I just might get one myself ;-)
These gadgets come in quite handy in dubious monitoring situations. N.B. If you don't want to invest 50$ (more or less) for this little piece of plastic, homemade versions are easy to make.
Would the sound mirror work for baritone saxophone?
why do you play your G# by pressing low Bb?

I’m not sure if you found out why, but depending on what key you are in, it’s a real good technique if you are playing low on a F# or B scale. I don’t know what key he’s playing in, but that’s when I do it.

Bob, i met you in LA at Blue Whale this year and we talked about the VLOGS and the importance of the content and the positive impact that it causes, not just on the musical proficiency side but presenting good life experiences! Congrats once again for the hard work to put the video ideas together (we know the time that it takes to edit and make it attractive). Keep up the good work! Regards from Brazil @thiagolopes_br (insta)
Hey Bob, I had a question pertaining to you practicing quietly. I have alway been told to use a lot of air and really fill up the horn to improve my sound and get a full tone. What am I trying to improve when playing quietly?
Hey, if you want a simple way to make beats fast, check out Idrum from Izotope. It has a grid metaphor and it takes any drum samples you want, very simple and if you have done Reason it will look familiar enough. No affiliation, just use it a lot and it works. Low over head, its a plug in and a stand alone app.
Wooooh
...and sales for the Ploeger go through the roof!! :D
Like a kid that was gifted a new bike :)
try using different tuplets for drum beats
Also, is playing with a metronome the only way to improve one's sense of time? I really want to work on mine.

Hey Bob! Your Can't Wait For Perfect album is the best, I really mean it!... Question: is the melody in Nine Lives being doubled by a soprano with effects or by synthesizer? So curious about it because the record sounds just awesome (and my rookie ears can't seem to find the answer LoL)

For drum beats, this tool by Jack Stratton is fun to play around with... funklet.com You can choose a drum beat from a list of artists and songs, and then modify it as you want. As a drummer I'd recommend it, even if you just want to have fun with a beat!

For microphones on a gig
Hello- FYI.. the inventor of this device, Tom Ploeger, just passed away in Detroit yesterday. Freak accident, apparently. Possibly had a seizure at his friend’s home and fell, hitting his head and caused severe brain damage.. very sad. He was a good friend of my Dad’s, and was a super-cool guy.
Does it not affect our ability to project? Because we're getting that instant feedback? (no pun intended)

possibly. i've only used it occasionally over last 2 years. in fact, now that i have it, and know what the real sound in my studio is, i use it less. still a nice bit of kit, though. :)
