Dude. I’m gonna be honest, I’m so so glad you picked up tenor. Your sound on it is just so gorgeous, it’s just beyond me how beautiful your tone is. It would be absolutely amazing to hear more of that. And don’t put yourself down. One of the worst things you can do for yourself is compare yourself to others. Yes, take lots of inspiration from others, but don’t compare yourself. Work on yourself as much as you are willing to. You are a very talented man, so keep going. It’s hard not to let things get to your head, but you can fight it. Keep going. :)

I want one of those cardigans too! And about the imposter syndrome, there's absolutely nothing wrong with humility, that means that you're being honest with yourself. However, that doesn't mean that you should be mean to yourself either, you are an incredibly talented saxophone player and you make great educational videos that are so fun to watch. There will always be plenty of people better than you. Honestly there could be a high schooler somewhere out there who has goten better than you during the pandemic, don't let it bug you. Focus less on comparing yourself to others and more on yourself, and if you're better than you from yesterday then today was a huge success. You can let others motivate you but don't let them break you down.

Another reason your low notes might be squeaking might be that since you're relatively new to tenor sax, there's sort of an adjustment period where your embouchure gets used to going that low since you were so used to playing on alto. The same thing happened to me lol

The mind is a funny thing. But it’s important to remember that not every thought you have is actually true. This is a great opportunity to learn the skill of having a thought, and if it’s harmful, being able to analyze if it’s rational, and true. I like to say, “if you wouldn’t say it to someone else, don’t say it to yourself.” Cause here’s the thing: if you didn’t deserve 100k subscribers, then you wouldn’t have 100k subscribers. And to be honest, I don’t think we’re all subscribed to you just because of how good you are at the saxophone. It’s what you’re doing with the saxophone, and saxophone things, that has drawn us in and made us interested in seeing more. And that’s a great thing, man. So maybe other people are a little bit more kick ass at saxophone than you. cool. Do they have the personality you do? They have your knowledge of recording video and audio, and editing? And have ideas that other people are interested in? And if they have alllll of those things, have they acted on it and put themselves out on the internet for the literal world to see? Oh, that’s right, no they haven’t. What you’re gaining is well earned, my friend. If anybody could do what you’re doing, they would. EVEN if you DO think anybody could do what you’re doing, you’re still discrediting the fact that you’re *actually* DOING it. Keep that head up my man. Make videos whenever and however often you want. But don’t let it be dictated by the falsehood that you don’t deserve what you have. Much Love, and keep up the good work. But only if you want to 🤘🏻

Seriously, dude! You are an amazing player. Every player is his/her own worst critic! You have phrasing, intonation across the horn, technique and melodic lines like no other! Don't fear or be intimidated by your fellow Saxophonists! Play off them, work with them. Learn from them as they are undoubtedly learning from you also! Hell, I am a 54 year old sax player who has a degree in Music Ed coming back to get my chops back. I could read the hell out of charts in my prime. Now, I am feeling outdated! Just keep shedding! I'm kinda in the middle of deciding on which music program to possibly go into, after getting accepted at various schools, and I was wondering if you might ever do a video about music school/higher ed. How do you balance getting the education you want w/out going into big debt, and do you think there are misconceptions that people have about school that don't reflect your experience? i hope your second semester gets better btw :) imposter syndrome sucks ass

Honestly, ligs don’t make any difference to sound that’s worth worrying about. The only thing you have to make use of is that it holds your reed on well. My thinking is that his old lig might not be making an good seal on the reed because of a multitude of factors like table shape, reed flexibility or the shape of the table of the reed.

  • @jacobbass6437

@@AlecDatDude no. There is a not insignificant amount of people that think that different materials and different styles of mouthpieces makes a difference in your tone. I argue that this isn’t true. It’s not materials and style, but how well the lig attaches the reed to the mouthpiece. This is why a shoelace works just as good as a $200 lig and sounds the same (see earspasm music on this topic).

Hey Nathan! What kind of mouthpiece are you using in combination with the ligature? It sounds very promising, I have the same issue on tenor you were just describing, well it's more like my A and F go up an octave if I'm not careful with adjusting my embouchure playing those notes. By the way thank you for the videos! You're a great saxophone player and só funny! 😄
