I finally got one! It makes a huge difference. I practice in an acoustically dead soundproof booth. You can hear your tone in real detail. I don't sound quite as bad as I thought I did. 😁

I bought it a week ago and knew it would work. It is like facing the wall always at the right angle!

Going to have to get one of these. I've become so tied to practising whilst facing a wall to get a true reflection of my sound that when I face turn away I actually lose confidence in my tone quality.

@Better Sax: Thanx to your teaching videos, I like a lot your explanations and style!! I bought a deflector, too, and made this experiences: Instaed of former playing against a wall/in a corner (I felt like a sentenced, bad pupil, who contradicted the strict teacher ;-)) Now I can go, stay or walk around with upright breast, upright head and sound control. This deflector not only helps on behalf of sound, but on behalf of body posture and mental attitude while playing. And it.s pretty inconspicuous at the horn, too.

thanks for this, and other tips from yourself. It's not always easy to find a wall on stage. This looks a much better solution than bringing my own wall, so will be trying it :)

Best to show us the sound difference with and without the deflector, this would help everyone to decide, looks like the idea will catch on as will stop sax players facing the wall or window.

I see what you mean, but that would be quite difficult to demonstrate in a video. The angle is very important, and changing it by just a few degrees will make a big difference in what sound comes back to your ears. The only way to know if this is right for you is to try it out and experiment with it. I'm pretty sure Amazon accepts returns if you are unsatisfied with the purchase.

Ken dont agree with you on the sax holder, i have one and i must admit it has really stopped my problem with the shoulders aching but it is a very poor design regarding the thing slipping off the shoulders with the slightest movement.

peter smith you need to bend the arms so the fit the shape of your shoulders. I have used one for 2 years and it’s never fallen off mine.

I guess that solves a few problems. I hate those gigs where my sound just disappears into a hall and I have no idea what I'm even sounding like.

I’ve got one. Excellent product, really works. One thing I thought of though is does it affect the sound that the audience hear? You’re hearing it louder but they’re hearing it quieter (maybe) because there’s a bit of plastic in front of the bell. You might never know though because you’re not where the audience is?

Under your gear heading I noticed that you use about 4 different tenors. I would love to hear your opinions of each...your favorite...the good, bad etc of each one. Have you used a silencer (specifically for alto)? I have a one year old who doesn’t seem to like it when I play lol he gets used to it after a few minutes, but cries when I first start playing 😕

Is there one of these with a mute button? ie, so you can mute the saxaphone....asking for a friend...he's a sound engineer...

I have yanagisawa T 50.that's what saxophone class. beginner intermediate or professional ????? actually i also have it. but i do not get any information about that please answer. Thank's

+Rolly Anthony As far as I know Yanagisawa never made any beginner horns. All of their saxophones can be considered professional level. Some models have some extra features that are missing on other models, but any Yanagisawa can last you a lifetime.

So number one is the sax is not loud enough! Wow

How could you be worried about how you look with the deflector if you already have that funny looking neck strap! LOL Just kidding I have that neck strap too. hahaha Stan Getz would never use either of these. Jay have you tired the sax mirror Bob Reynold did? That one looks cool too. Thanks for the vids! Hope you get my humor.
