Hi, loved the video. Can you recommend a step up or 2 steps up from the Yamaha 4C flat baffled tenor mouthpiece? I just started back on my tenor (I currently play Alto, mostly jazz) but pulled the Tenor out after a 15 year absence . I want to move up from my "4C flat baff" . What say you?
Kinda looks like there is a bettersax book in the background, maybe just me tho
The Hodge Silk Baritone swab I recently found works great for the upper section
Love this; love how these and all masters just keep learning from other masters.
Lol , Billy Hart is a drummer , not a saxophonist .(At 2:58)..
I meant to say Billy Harper. Sorry about that.
@@midnightspecialYL It ok, lol.. Great interview
Thank you.
A really great video for explaining the relevance of using my tongue when playing. I’m 3 months into learning the alto and love it but I find it so hard to know how to tongue properly. I have an awesome teacher, an older lady of 80 who has been on the sax scene as a pro player for around 60 years! Any tips to perfecting my embrochure would be a great help too 👌
I've been waiting for it for soooo long. I hope it's gonna be available outside the US. A high-quality instrument that is hopefully not expensive 🙈
Hey Jay, how about a video on French Cut? Thanks!
I don't play sax either. But I can hear and appreciate the difference. The Amasax sounds good (for the money). But the purity , tone and range of harmonics from the Pro Saxophone are just gorgeous 🥰. Even to my ears, the difference in cost is easily worth it. Unless you're Sax Muggle like me lol😊

R I P Brother Sanborn--> Bad Ass Sax Player I will miss you
Thank Brad for his generosity with his time. What an even personality! Would have been great to study under him. Thanks Jay for arranging this.
Thank you Brad, thank you Jay for a very interesting discussion and lesson.
THATS MY PROFESSOR!!! WOOHOO GO MEAN GREEN!!!
Thank you for a great interview. At the very end of the conversation , he mentions a sax player but his full name was blurred . Who was it?
hi jay what is the tittle of the track he is playing
Professor Leali is such a incredible mentor.
Unreal brother
Thanks so much Jay for having Brad Leali share his expertise with us. I'm such a beginner on sax (but play other instruments) and his advice carries over into every aspect of music and life...Thanks again, Linda
Great🎉
Am i the only one that saw somthing in the subtitles😅
Hey Jay! thanks for the amazing vid like always. Just one suggestion on some of your previous podcasts you had timestamps throughout the video for ppl to listen to certia topics. Id be cool if you could add them back!
great stuff.. he knows and mentions some of the names of the players everyone 'should' know!😉 mid-20th century imho is the golden era of jazz saxophone.
Thanks for talking with a top educator in the field. Very valuable!
I attended NTSU wanting to become a great jazz improviser. The program lacked emphasis on developing your own jazz language. Just my own experience. This interview has some great advice , just try not to get lost in all the academic details.
I got to play for him when I was in high school back in 2002. He told me I needed to step away from Parkers style and not use it as a 'crutch'. Very humbling for me, but I learned so much from that. I'll never forget it. Thank you, Brad!
Thanks for doing this one, Jay. I can see how Brad would be amazing giving a Master Class, and preparing younger players for the business challenges and the reality of being a musician in today's setting. I suspect there's a wicked sense of humor there.
Awesome! So much good stuff….I love that he has his students transcribe Sonny Red! I actually shouted Yessss! out loud when he said that!
i love your lessons sir but I don't know what to type to get the previous lessons?

*J* , could you please make a video showing your saxophone collection?
It is SO cool to see PROFESSOR Brad Leali here on Jay’s show! Brad and I went to NTSU together and I can honestly say that he was one of my biggest inspirations there. The joy and spirit he brought, even as a young player, was infectious and helped me realize how important it was to break free of the cerebral as often as possible. I still remember the band that he and Shelly Carrol put together that made me wanna shout! That was the thing about being at NTSU (UNT) - it was as much about the influence of one’s fellow students as it was about the (great!) teachers. I am so proud of you, Brad, and I feel that your “lesson” here is something that’ll help get me back on the horn. Much thanks to you and Jay!
Do day work with blind people?
Marca makes very nice reeds. Totally agree with you about single-use plastic madness! Love ya’ Jay.
The concept of slowing down Giant Steps can be applied to everything. Brilliant advice!
love it love it
Super interview!
The best!

Great interview. I remember seeing a Joe Lovano masterclass at Berklee where he did a similar thing to the cadenza idea. Staying on each chord until he’d rinsed everything out of it he could and only then moving on to the next chord.
The 7 just sounds so much better man hooooly smokes
🇻🇪❤️🎼🏋🏾♂️
Brad is the complete package. Special thanks to Brad for taking time out of his busy schedule years back to help me with mouthpieces.
Hey Mr Springer, so good to see you here! I hope you’re still making mouthpieces. Miss you, man.
Jay is still the man, unselfish and ever helpful. Great interview, as usual❤🎉
Brad and I were there at same time NTSU 1982-1986. NTSU prepared me for being in the USAF Bands 23 years, played with Airman of Note
And GRANT is here too! Wow, it’s great to see you. I didn’t remember that we were at NTSU the exact same years. Congrats on the USAF career!
@@bryandickerson5365 great to see you Bryan!!!!!
I'm an incoming freshman sax player at UNT, I can't wait to study with Brad!
What a cool thing to look forward to! I studied with his predecessor, Jim Riggs, and learned SO much him and the other students like Brad!
When is the bettersax bari coming?
Soon!
Saxopohone?!
ty u :)
@Brad - As a fellow Denverite, now in Austin...I'm gutted over the closing of El Chapultepec...which I spent many nights at during college and up until I left CO. That would be like closing the Elephant Room here in Austin...blasphemous!
I played 5 nights a week at El Chapultapec many years ago for about a yr before moving back to Hawaii Brad came in with his Silver 6M and killed it. Javon Jackson with a big beautiful sound on a soloist. Both Denver guys. Lots of excellent musicians in Colorado.
yoooo im early
this guy is the best
