I had a playmobile. Good times. Responsible for my love of driving.

I wanted a Jimmy Jet, similar to that play mobile. They cost 18 dollars so mom said it was too much. Imagine how many groceries 18 bucks would buy in 1963.

Thank you so much Mary Jo for adding these videos. We have a couple but have not seen the Playmobile. Love these Deluxe Reading toys. Use to see them sitting on top of the deep freezers in the grocery stores back in the day. Owned a few of these toys as well. Great memories. Thanks again.

I had the Mighty Mo", it worked better when you dropped some flour down the barrel before loading the black plastic ball. Boom! It looked like real smoke. Thanks big brother for showing me that.

I grew up in Roseville MI, back in the 50's/60's. I saw those toys up above the produce aisle in the local Chatham store. I always wanted the Mighty Mo or Fighting Lady ship, but no go from mom.

Same here. We had really neat toys at the grocery store, but NO, mom would not have any of it. We ended up with those terrible robots that would fight, they lasted about 4 hours and we went to the park. We got our fighting robots from the kids next door, they didn't like them either.

Same thing at the A&P in Bessemer AL where my parents shopped. I got this big battleship called Battle wagon B-400 made by Reading toy co.when I was 6. My brother got a large motorized tank but can't remember the name of it.

I remember the Deluxe Playmobile, My Dad went down to Massachusetts to buy me one for Christmas. My Mom asked him why he went way down there and he said, I saved two dollars because they don't come equipped with Directional Signals there because nobody there uses them anyway.

Each of these were only sold at food markets? Really? I would understand that today (looking at you WalMart), but back in the early '60s? The toy area in the supermarkets we visited back in the day never had toys like this.

I'm not sure... Possibly, these particular manufacturers weren't "big name toy company" enough to be sold at toy stores... Toy companies often held large shares or stakes in some of the toy retail chains of the day, and therefore could dictate somewhat which company's wares got sold at that chain...
