Thank you so much for sharing this video. I loved (and still do) Deluxe Reading dolls and toys. The amazing toy displays were always placed on top of the deep freezers and I would stand for hours and just stare. I received many a Deluxe toy as a child and how I wish I had kept them. This brought back so many wonderful memories. Thank you again..

11:53- usually, Campbell Soup Company was the sole sponsor of "LASSIE" {CBS, Sundays, 7pm(et)}. In the fall of 1962, however, Deluxe Reading became an "alternate sponsor" from September through December (at least).

In an ad agency on Madison Avenue, someone like Don Draper and his associates came up with this advertising campaign.

The Jimmy Jet sure was exaggerated....that was not the image you saw, which looked very 3D in this film and really was just a projected flat image. And you didn't "score a hit". All that said though, the Jimmy Jet was a wonderful toy. I got mine at 6 years old. I played and played with that thing, awesome!

I wanted a Jimmy Jet in the worst way. Naturally, I was disappointed when Christmas came in 1962 and - no Jimmy Jet. They weren't cheap, close to 13 dollars which was a healthy chunk of change back then. One of my friends got one and I couldn't wait to check it out. Well, I quickly realized it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. It made a lot of noise - the motor that spun the image on the rear projection screen raised a racket. A few weeks later, we were visiting that same family again and when I asked my friend about the Jimmy Jet, he said it was broken. I got over it very quickly.
