Great job guys!!! I got the Crusader 101 for Christmas in 1964 when I was 10 years old. That car and my Texaco Toy Tanker (which you purchased at the gas station) were my 2 all time favorites followed by the REMCO Skydiver which was also huge. I passed them onto my sons and now I believe my grandson has it. 56 years of use...I say my parents got their money's worth.

I was born in 63. The TV commercials were in black and white as many people still owned a black and white TV as color TV were more expansive. The toys back then required lots of imagination. The world has changed more in the last 50 years more then the previous. Thanks to the transistor. The toys back then may be boring to kids today, but we did have lots of fun.

I was born in 1962 and did see these toys by 1969 still around ..so yes I seen them as a 7 yr old kid brings back the memories.. We didn't have iPad nor Xbox but I had hours of fun with these toys.

Great presentation of the history of these toys. I still have some of my original Topper Johnny Lightning cars that were only produced from 1970-72.

WOW! I just had a flashback to the old A&P supermarket on Flatbush Ave, looking at the X-Mas toys displayed above the fruit and vegetable aisle. My brother received a Playmobile that we used to "drive" all around the world from our kitchen table. Thanks for the memories!

Ray Del Rosario ........Your welcome. If I'm not mistaken, I think they were located down by the waterfront. The reason I say that is because my father drove her to work there a few times and I went him and I seem to remember the building being by the water. I could be mistaken but what do you expect from a little kid that was not even in school yet. Lolol. I was just happy to get in the car and go for a ride.

I remember drooling over some of these exact toys from the earlier half of the 60s. I never had any of them - but I did get to play with my cousin's fighter plane simulator. Sure it was junk, but back then, imagination was the biggest part of it - LoL. THANK YOU for helping bring my childhood memories alive for a few minutes. Your efforts are praisworthy - helping to preserve a segment of history.

Wow! Great Job On Your Video, I was born in 1955, so I remember all these toys & the TV ads! I never will forget what my Mother said about the TV ads, "Remember you don't get the theme song when you buy the toy!" David From Calif.

My favorite toy as a kid. It worked great!

The toys back then imaged the real stuff our fathers and other men drove and used. I got to say the toys back then kicked ass! I myself had a burgundy red VW Beetle that puffed smoke and had working headlights rear lights and indicator lights. My big brother had a whole cowboy town with buildings wagons horses cow boys sheriff and his deputys and outlaws from the 60's.

I still have my Johnny-Astro. When I got it I had trouble getting the balloon up in the air off the included flight pad. I took the toy next door to show it off and was amazed when the man next door got it up in the air quickly and was able to control it. As I recall it could be moved up about 3 feet or so and then with skill brought back to a landing on the flight pad if you cut the fan quickly enough! I also had the Johnny Express Flatbed truck and recall the commercials where the announcer said you could stand on it! The remote control was impressive to me as a kid. Your brothers are cute kids! I enjoyed your presentation!

Man I remember the Jonny Express truck from back then. One night in early 1966 when we were at the old White Front store in San Fernando, CA., I tried to convince my Dad and Granpa that I had seen a truck with two kids standing on it, but I couldn't remember the name. They bought me a Texaco fire truck instead, which was the company my Granpa worked for...

We as small boys YEARNED for these toys! Our folks were not stupid. They bought us toys that would last forever, not cheap plastic!! They gave us Tonka Toys!! Serious steel!!! Lasts forever!!!

Thanks for the video. I got the crusader 101 for Christmas in the 60's. It eventually was destroyed like most kids do with toys. My son bought me another Crusader 101 on line. This one wont be trashed.60 year old kid.

I had the Battle Wagon ship! I had forgotten all about it. What a fantastic video! Thanks for taking me back. I remember all most all of these toys from TV and my friends. Everybody had at least one toy that needed batteries but everything else was kid powered! Great times.

I had a crusader 101 car, back in 1971/72 given to me by my older cousins, I was about 6 years old and my older brother 23 years old at the time, Had a 1964 Lincoln Continental. So the crusader 101, like you said in your video, reminded me of his LINCOLN, especially the tail lights!!!!

You all are so fortunate to have such toys. Over the years I have complained about how they don't make nice things anymore including toys. Though I myself am struggling to build a vintage radio collection, if I had extra money I too would buy vintage toys. I've seen some nice ones come and go on eBay. And you're not wrong playing with them as nothing is forever.

I had one of those Crusader 101 cars that I got for Christmas in the middle sixties,they sold them in the supermarket we shopped for groceries in.

My brother and I wanted anything Tonka, Nylint or Huffy they were made of heavy metal and we would build roads out in the garden with loaders dozers and dirt movers like dumptrucks or pans and drive our picups on the roads we made staying out all day

I share your type of childhood history. I too played with Tonka. They were hand me downs, but they were made of steel, and were meant to last for years, even if left out in the rain. I believe that this is where I got my Inspiration to become a truck driver.👍

*I had the 'King' of 'Tonka'...a gigantic bucket-loader that was so big you could sit on it to use it!* ( *I was Gran's only boy and she made damn sure I got the 'best stuff' on B-days and Christmas including 3-pedal cars and my first 'big boy bike', a red 'Western Auto' machine that was 'too cool for school' with those 'bubble head-lights' and a horn built-in w/a button on the side...it took two D-cells and they didn't last long with me!* )

@@gerrynightingale9045 Seems like everything took December batteries back then. Ray O Vac's didn't last very long either. The only new Tonka I ever got was the big yellow earth mover. Being small enough to ride it and living on a hill had its benefits!

I got a Crusader 101 that thing is sooo big including leg room for front and back seats passengers starting with my G I Joe's . I even got one to set behind the steering wheel . My cousin Pam brought over some of her Barbies and they also fit . I also had a large Towetruck that worked well with the car . I don't remember what happened to the car but I remember that I really liked it . There was only one problem with that car as well as other Remote toys . The wire cable was too short .

At 58 years old I must have missed these when I was a kid because I don't remember any of them but had I known about them I would have drove my Mom crazy for her to buy these toys. I bet in todays market place these toys would be highly sought after as collectables. Thanks for sharing that.

As a kid in the 1960s, I got the Tiger Joe tank and USS Battlewagon for Christmas. Not cheap for my parents at the time. Great fun. Had to keep asking Dad for more D-cell batteries! Both came with baggies of fine white powder, to simulate gunsmoke. Mom wisely confiscated them. I would have made a mess! Both can be found on the vintage toy market, but in top shape they are spendy!

I had the Crusader 101. I ditched the driver and used it for my Barbie and Ken.They fit perfectly and - bonus - Skipper, Skooter, and Ricky fit in the backseat. Lots of fun!

I had the TV Jet and a few of the others back in the early '60s and thinking back, it was more exciting waiting and wondering if Santa was gonna bring it or nor than actually playing with them. On Christmas we would be elated of course but as the days went by you realized you could only repeat the same thing over and over again before you got bored with it, lol. Seeing the 'Batteries NOT Included' logo was always something parents, woops, I mean Santa would seem to miss. Granma, aunts/uncles were actually more often the ones who would not notice the batteries needed part.. No one is gonna run out on Christmas to try and find batteries, especially since every7 place but maybe a gas station was closed. My favorite part was coming up with scenarios in which the manufacturer or the 'giver' hadn't even thought about. If ya had a creative spark you would extend the life of th4e toy as far as interest in it went. Within a year though most of them were in the 'broke' pile. A new year and next Christmas and the next toy was still out there just waiting for Santa to pick up. marx, Remco, Gilbert, Lionel, American Flyer, Strombecker and on and on. I always wondered how cool it must be to work at one f these companies thinking up the next big thing. Went on too long here, hope it wasn't too boring, I could write a book or two on the subject (A Christmas Story only scratched the surface). Monkey Guns, anyone remember THEM ? GI Joes, man. Then the day came when you grew out of 'toys' and they were just something your little brother or sister had to have, you were now into stereo equipment and so on. What American boy can forget his first 6 shooter back in the day ? And our bicycles ? Thats a whole 'nother area. A chopped Schwinn with banana seat and roll bar,, it was put away 'til summer of course and these toys here were mainly for use during the colder months in my part of the country at least. I did say that I was gonna shut up didn't I ?

The front end of the Crusader 101 resembles that of the '62 Mercury.

Great job guys, you brought back a lot of memories. I received that exact Playmobile for Christmas when I was about seven. And yes I saw it in a small grocery store called Ganna's. I told my father how much I liked it, and on Christmas morning there it was (from Santa of course).

That was awesome! Had the Crusader that my parents got me for Christmas. I think i'm going to try and locate another it really brings back memories.

I was born in 1959 in Canada and I got Johnny Express for Christmas one year. I had many hours of fun, and when I grew up I became a long haul big rig driver.

The Battlewagon's capabilities are mirrored in the present-day U. S. Navy LHD ships. Aircraft, amphibious assault boats, etc. I also agree 100% with your opinion about the Crusader 101.

I remember most of these toys. I wanted a Jimmy Jet so badly, then was disappointed when Christmas came in 1962 and no Jimmy Jet. They weren't cheap by any means; the price was close to 13 dollars, which was a healthy chunk of change in the early 60s. My friend ended up getting one, and I was eager to check it out. His mother encouraged us to enjoy it. It made a lot of noise, which you didn't hear during the commercials, and my enthusiasm for it quickly waned. When we visited his family a few weeks later, I asked him about his Jimmy Jet and he said it had broken. I got over my disappointment right then and there.
