Kitchens of the Future
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Selections from two industrial films from the 50s. First, the Frigidaire kitchen from General Motors' "Design for Dreaming," a promotional film for the 1956 Motorama. Second, a section from film coverage of the Monsanto "House of the Future," located in Tomorrowland in Disneyland. Just one word: "plastics."

LOL, I love how the cake comes out of the oven with candles already in place. These are hilarious.

One good thing about a plastic house. You'll never have to worry about keeping it up. It will take a 1000 years to decompose.

well, that actually depends on the type of plastic used... theres thousands of different recipes to make plastics. Some will breakdown in the sunlight (uv rads) in under 30 years, others will take 50 -100 years, and certainly melmac will take 1 million years! lol except if you put it in the microwave then it'll take about 30 seconds. lol

Okay okay okay okay okay... I screamed out loud at "irradiated food"
They got at least one thing right. My dishwasher is definitely where I store my dishes.

Would definitely love a kitchen like this ❤
I want that control panel! Imagine being able to scent individual rooms with different scents....
I love the "I dream of Jeanne" font used in the title.
That plastic, fantastic lover!
The mystery science theater 3000 guys took a run at the first short. They do an awesome job with it.
I legit want that Frigidaire kitchen. That huge fridge tho
"One level for cold, another level for frozen and a third level for irradiated foods." Yikes.

Just an FYI. Irradiated foods still very much exist. They are irradiated to kill any potentially harmful microorganisms. This is the reason why, if you've ever followed a lacto-fermentation recipe such as a naturally fermented pickle recipe, they call for non-irradiated cucumbers as irradiating them also kills any lactobacillus bacteria and naturally occurring yeasts that are essential to that process.
Monsanto! Now where have I heard that name? Lol.
I thought it was funny the cake came out with lighted candles. XD
They need to bring back the Monsanto House of the Future.

I would love to have seen it in its original 1956 version.
tuxedo mask from sailor moon in the beginning lol
All that electrically lowered stuff would drive me nuts. I like being able to just open the door and grab a plate or food or whatever. Not pressing a button and waiting like 6-10 seconds for the damn thing to lower. God help you if you forgot something.
"-sings- The kitchen of Tomorrow is calling meee!" lol
WHY DID THESE THINGS NOT BECOME COMMON IN OUR HOMES?!!
0:26 the internet of the things!
Wonderful!
If there were a power outage, could you still access your "cold zone" foods or some of your storage items? Sure hope they had manual options as well!

Nice upload @nepley , it's good to see documentation of the shifting eras of marketing and sales pitches, stuff like this is golden for so many purposes of education. Kinda related: do you know who's credited for the music in these kinds of joints? A lot of it is pretty trippy with the weird lyrics and tempo-shifts!
How did they know life would be just like this??? This is so right on; It is scary!!!!♥
1:32 opening to The Hills have Eyes
DANG ... looks like we missed out on this one!
those are some slow ass shelves
Just think of it girls! The ability to pretty up the smell of the bathroom after dad has in been there at the touch of a finger tip from across the house!
1:00 the only thing that they predicted correctly is tiktok
God, they loved their plastic o.o
wow, live action Jetsons!
Now there's a pill-popping housewife if ever I've seen one.
The Hills Have Eyes brought me here lol🤣🤣🤣
I've just converted my kitchen back to 1950s...ha...goodness...!
Doris Day got into a whole heap of trouble in a kitchen just like this one. See the movie- Glass bottom boat.
It should ended with, "I'm Cave Johnson..."
The Hills have Eyes :D
Someone needs to tell her the concept of 'sport'
this is the intro video of Hills Have Eyes 2006, now I finally found what video it was.. lolz
You know those old Tex Avery cartoons that showed the House of Next Tuesday? Those were the best.
Can somebody please explain to me what happened to these kitchens?? It's 2023..my kitchen doesn't have half of those features!
I wonder why no one made a stove that will send your phone an alert telling your cookies are done...
sooooo.... where my space kitchen at
She looks like Kiki Caron. I like this promo movie. Thanks.
Wow and we have the picture now lol
*sigh* irradiation as a preservation method had such promise.
Lol, if u have plastic dishes now you're considered cheap. These days, beautiful woods and stainless steel are all the rage.
Almost 2018 and this shit still not exist !! What happened!
Add some solar panels and I'm in!
The dishwasher that doubles as storage you can buy that now as the dishwasher in a drawer.

i like the slide down fridge, freezer and shelf. too bad theyre small....
It's not so much the technology, but the social aspects of these videos. Would the creators have imagined a time when a woman's place WASN'T in the kitchen? The Housewives in these clips show absolute joy at being able to work a little faster, so they can lay down for a bit before the MAN comes home. None of these future predictions were looking towards the social aspects, only the technological.
You know what would be awesome, a Muffin Button.
"tick tock tick tock, I'm free to have fun around the clock..." Boy were they ever right on with that. I know I'm always free to just have fun around the clock.
Wish my house is made of plastic so I don't have to worry about termites!! XD
They completely missed the robot vacuum though.
By what year was this supposed to happen?
that little girl in this video is probably in her late 60s...
What the fuck happend to us, look at these Ideas i mean all i see today is same same same. but this one wtf amazing !

@@mettatorian Actually, irradiated foods are safe. Irradiation makes meat and poultry safer by reducing the numbers of harmful bacteria and parasites. Food irradiation does not make foods radioactive, compromise nutritional quality, or noticeably change the taste, texture, or appearance of food. In fact, any changes made by irradiation are so minimal that it is not easy to tell if a food has been irradiated. Nutrient losses caused by irradiation are less than or about the same as losses caused by cooking and freezing
@TreblePop couldn`t agree more
4:17 it’s fallout 3
So this is what the 21st century will look like!
Yes. pearberry, I was just about to write... "Irradiated Mousaka, please!"

Uhm why would they have irradiated foods? And why is this not a commercial in the Fallout world.
How did monsanto go from Kitchens of the Future to seedless grapes and mutant corn?
Lol.... Ummm is she rapping? Ok now😘😘
Well, there is also the microwave (which weren't in houses yet in the 50s, and that everything just about is made of plastic.
What do they say…..got nothing to say… sing it..
Cool, the pot turned into a birthday cake in the oven... completely decorated with candles and all the stuff. Kudos... But my favorite is "Monsanto presents". When will this company disappear?
They expected so much for the 21st century but we are a real disappointment 💀

In 1987, using the vintage mainframe at the University of Alberta, having learned to arcane incantations to submit my files for complilation, I was shaken to the core that the filesystem and associated programs were running on *virtual* punchcards… despite the code being edited in a wysiwyg editor on my Macintosh and uploaded at a whopping 1200 baud...

@@vaalrus I wonder how many readers even know what 1200 baud _means._ Ah, the old Bell 212A standard. I worked on the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and the data was transmitted at the UNHEARD OF speed of 9600 baud, but it took TWO "data grade" phone lines. We had to dial each phone to the remote phone number, lift the "exclusion key," and set the handset on the face of the telephone for the duration of the call.

i'm fucking scared
WTF was "Irradiated Food"? XD
Think about the metaphor of the "House of the Future" being located in an Amusement Park. The ideas of how life might be were shaped in Disneyland by Manufactures of everything from Car to Homes. Tomorrowland was a thing long before the internet, personal computers and online commerce was even imagined.
Man, what the fuck went wrong since then?
They sure did a lot of false advertising back then
Cyd Charisse?? DIdin't know she could cook.
