I would've wanted the KISS bendables made!!!!!

I remember I wanted the 12" Peter Chris for Christmas when I was a little guy. My dad ended up getting me an Ace Frehley instead.

I so LOVE the idea of the Camping set. I have always been fascinated by that. As a KISS Fan, it's the absurdity of it, that makes it so amazingly fun. I love to imagine what the commercial would have been for that camping set. A couple of kids in the woods, a play make shift fire (Gene could actually start the fire easily...I guess), and that wonderful voice over, "Now you can take the rock and roll magic of KISS with you anywhere, with the All-New KISS KAMPING ADVENTURE SET!" So much fun. Thanks for sharing this. This was a blast to watch. Great work! Take care.

I love the opening music

I saw the KISS camping set in a publication a while ago and was dumbfounded that even made it to a prototype stage. The idea of KISS in costume out in the middle of the woods sitting around a campfire while snuggled in monogramed sleeping bags and playing a ukulele absolutely melts my brain.

That Kiss camping set is hilarious! My neighbor's mom told me that they were satanic and if you burned any of their merchandise, little insects would appear. I only had some Kiss trading cards, so I burned one. It was disappointing.

Yeah i would have loved them as a kid.

I wish mego had done a stage play set maybe convert the star trek play set now its a carry case as well. I had all 4 12" kiss dolls as a kid as i built a stage complete with sparklers a flash light for lighting and i blasted kiss music.

A KISS Stage would've been so cool. With stairs and a levitating drums set. Just like the stage from '77 Love Gun tour. I know it would've sold like hot cakes! What could've been!

Finally picked up the 4-man set a few months back. I want to snag a few other vintage KISS items, but man their vintage stuff is pricey. Excellent vid. Loved seeing the "almost" Kisslectibles!

What a fantastic video, phenomenal research by you Brick. I grew-up in a small Ontario Canadian city which before Zellers had a Towers department store. The original KISS Mego figures were never available back in the day. I was on the hunt for a KISS radio after I watched-it blowup on an American TV commercial, and the original KISS pinball machine was never seen in my town. I do recall a wall display at A and A Records with a poster along with promoting the new release of Love Gun had all the Canadian tour dates for the summer of '77. I've been looking for that bad-boy for 40 years. Great video and I'm familiar with your work from Plaid Stallions.

The bendables would’ve been great.

I could have had the bendables, but mom wasn't going to pay 7.99 for "dolls."

What one I would like them to have had produce? The KISS KAMPING set. If for nothing else but the pure hilarity of it. Just to hear somebody say They actually made that? And somebody else say I actually HAD that! LOL Seriously, I agree that they should've made the bendie figures. I remember buying the KISS 12 inch dolls at Korvettes back in the day, and I remember the boxes almost always being in terrible condition, ripped, crushed in places, etc. And once I got a Peter doll and had to take it back because not only was the box in bad shape, but one of his legs was broken. Never got one where the box was in pristine condition. Don't know why.

I loved bendables! Gee whiz Mego should have sold these!

I'd go with the kamping set, but only if they did like an animated special that had KISS in full outfits, going camping, and maybe solving a mystery.

I remember the Kamping set being talked about in Toyfare. They wanted Mego to do an RV as well so Ace could drive it into a river.

The Cher doll was 12in so the Cher Concert arena would have been better as it would be a simple recolouring to Kiss

They were also available in Australia in the 70s too

How about the mega rare KISS kites and KISS Krapper Keeper folders ?

The KISS camping set kinda sets them up as musicians slash adventures. Kinda like many Hanna Barbara properties.

Amazing! Thanks for the facts and info you’ve shared here! I think the first set of Kiss dolls were indeed the best. With the direction Mego was going in with celebrity dolls I think 12” was the way to go with Kiss. I had heard Mego contemplated making a 12” Elton John somewhere in that era but the idea didn’t test well with kids. I don’t know if that’s true or another Mego myth...

I've personally never heard the Elton John one but that doesn't mean it wasn't possible. There are a few celebrity dolls that never got produced.

Brick Mantooth thanks for your response. I’d figured if anyone could confirm the Elton John story you could 🙂. Ive also heard Kate Jackson, Barbi Benton, Loni Anderson, were produced as prototypes but never released.

@@christopherramon-reid2000 Kate Jackson had a doll, as Sabrina from Charlie's Angels. Kenner made the Angels dolls and playsets.

A camping set??? What the hell?! How about design "Phantom of the Park" sets (Devereaux's lab, amusement park, stage) and dolls of Devereaux and his weird robots (and I would even include KISS"s bad stunt doubles just for fun!).

My stepbrother was a huge Kiss fan, and I couldn't stand them at all LOL, he wanted the figures but my grandmother was another one who believed that they were satanic and it was a no go. The camping set is hilarious, like something for Barbie and her friends, and I wish they had made it just so I could use it for my Barbie display!

Mego should have sold Cher with Gene dolls together as a set because they dated in the late 1970s.

KISS Kamping Set is super weird but would of become a sought after thing in the modern era I almost bet because of that weirdness

It shows up in the 1976 Mego Catalog as an opponent for Ali that was not produced. I don't know if the sculptor modified it after that.

These were a must have as an 8 or 9 yr old … the comic the movie . They were superheroes/villains and perfect to go against my pulsar my Bionic Man my Stretch Armstrong my Big foot my 12 inch Hulk All my super heroes were regular size so these were mostly giant Super Villains, I never liked their hair so so I cut it off short

My dad and your dad met in a 'we will not buy these for you' universe. Knights? My dad used kings in place of knights...but later on slayer and metallica were ok..🤔🤣🤣

Interesting Mego made Gene Simmons, Cher AND Diana Ross. What a interesting 3some that would make with a KISS KAMPING SET!

The 12" dol..action figures look pretty nice, unless you go all out with detail I think larger scales are a waste imo. KISS kamping, sweet. ^_^ I'm going to say the bendables, not my thing but if anything was going to sell well it would be those.

While the bendables are such cool looking toys the idea of the camping set hypothetically existing and being a probable epic failure and 40 year old mego collectors spending a grand on one years later tickles me pink
