VINTAGE JEWELRY HAUL | Choosing the BEST to RESELL for Profit!
Preparing ANTIQUE HAUL for the Rose City Vintage Market in Portland, Oregon
Our last Northwest antique show of the year is this weekend, and it's decision time! We've been procuring interesting things from lots of different estates...what should travel west with us?
We start at Twin Lakes Antique Mall, picking a cool 1970s suitcase, fabulous Fenton glass and other goods from MCM vintage to a Spanish-American War memorial mirror...all this while taking time to stock and restyle our space! Deciding what not to take and why is also important, we leave half the 1960s Roosters & Roses ware for Kentucky's farmhouse style kitchen decorators, but take road signs we think will grab attention in a big show booth.
Sorting at the storehouse is next, where big collections of mid-century glass offer tasty items like an Imperial cherub console set, Viking/Blenko/Pilgrim glass and elegant Empoli. We morph from there to a grand toreador painted screen, explain what 1980s costume jewelry we think has customers today and talk about the things (like Holt Howard and Pixieware) we've already got packed and in the van! Now if we can just leave enough room for the things we're likely to find on our drive out west...
Here's some more of what's occupying the van after this haul is sorted and packed:
Italian crackle fish decanter, resin grapes, Royal China 'Africa' tiered tray, Western Electric antique phones, Kanawha mini pitchers, Victorian iron string holder, Stickley Brothers Quaint shelf, McCoy deer planter, Davenport beverage set, Frankoma Mayan-Aztec canisters, 1910s silk embroidery piano shawl, GTE modernist phone, Franciscan Madeira pillar candles, Westmoreland teal lace edge bowl, Fostoria American cake stand, Westmoreland Della Robbia, George Briard tray, 1940s Dumbo planter, McCoy tulip planter, Erphila chicken, Royal Windsor chicken, pool balls, fire alarm, delphinium blue Argonaut toothpick, Miss America compote, Louis Glass pitcher, millefiori door knob, Hungarian folk art plaques, English toleware floral painted tin tray, silver deposit ice bucket, Limoges/Lenox salt dips, Hall Westinghouse fridge pitcher, Lenox pre-1953 shell dishes, Schreiner pin, Indian jewelry, Navajo jewelry, Victorian jewelry, marcasite & malachite jewelry, 1890s French black glass inkwell, French grape etch jar, 1901 dated bird whimsey, post card folios, Dinky auto carrier, etc.

Always a treat! Ty, George!
21:24 that brass necklace might be 30s Victorian Revival instead of late Victorian. The Mid-mod jade butterflies were EVERYWHERE. They came in shell too. The onyx and malachite geometrics were 80s Deco Revival. The round earrings with the leaves - either 50s post-WWII painted plastic or something else not bakelite. The underlying plastic is the wrong color. 24:49 Glued stones.. Czech is doubtful. The lapis necklace has Indian bells, but I think it's Pakistani. 27:48 Mexican sterling, no question. It wants to be Los Balasteros but...?

This is helpful! I struggled with the brass necklace, I thought probably revival but it didn't look 1950s, which was when I thought they were doing them...but if it's 1930s, then likely you're right. I tested the rounds and they seemed to pass, even though I knew the yellow flowers weren't--?? I'm impressed and wish I knew how you know Pakistani versus Indian, I realize you are very well versed in jewelry and hope to learn more from you. Definitely the Mexican sterling was trying to be Los Balasteros but was a look-alike. Thanks!

@@TheAntiqueNomad I have British collector friends who've been around and know stuff. Those bells turn up on Indian jewelry early and often; the Pakistani pieces are just different. You see enough of it, you start recognizing it.

Living in Hawaii I'd great but it sucks when it comes to distance between your shows George. I don't need anything, but sometimes one's just gotta have what makes them happy. 😁 You'll do great in the PNW at the show. What's not to love? You're 2nd to none at what you do. Hi George! You knowledge for antiques is so incredible, you are incredible historian. On a side note, I love that you shown the Frankoma Maya Aztec canister set in prairie green. I have a dining set, including canisters plates, and more in the original white sand. My grandmother was an artist here in OK and she knew the family who owned the factory and taught some of the kids. The had their own source of clay, using the native red dirt that we are famous for ( a nemesis for all OK mom’s like myself - lol.)

Oh my goodness! I just saw this video. Don't know how I missed it earlier. I LOVE some of your jewelry pieces and found myself wanting a few pieces so bad. If things don't sell in portland, are you planning to post them for sale anywhere online or have a sale video? I know for sure a couple of pieces I would love to purchase. You display everything beautifully. I would never have thought to pair some of the items like the tray with the small pictures and candle vase, but they look great together. Good luck with your sales, but keep me in mind for a few of those jewelry pieces😉. 🤞 selfishly I hope you come back with a few I have my eye on.

Hi, I like watching what you sell because I usually have at least one of the items in my home. For example I have the crackle fish that you showed. Before I started watching these videos the first thing I did with anything was to remove labels. Once I cleaned what I later found out was foil purposely put behind the jewelry stones to accentuate color. I also have a Schreiber piece of jewelry that was my aunts. Hers is a flashy rhinestone pin. I like yours better.
@TheAntiqueNomad

You probably have a good piece in your aunt's pin though, flashy sells! I remember as a kid thinking it was tacky when people left tags on things...now of course, we wish they would have left them be. Live and learn!

Hi there! I plan to be in Portland in July. I'm sorry to say the Stickley stand sold in Kentucky already. Hey George! I'm finally getting to post a comment on this one. That amethyst tumbler, with the lily of the valley on it, was interesting. I've noticed people are beginning to collect individual tumblers again. That would be a nice one to add to a collection. That piano shawl is fantastic! Love that! That Waterford pitcher is nice. I'd like to have a complete set of that, but...alas...no space to put it. Do you ever come across genuine jet jewelry? I've always wanted a nice piece of jet jewelry, but I've never been able to find any. Love the Victorian bar pin. It survived in remarkable condition. You have fantastic items!!! Something for a variety of tastes, so you should do quite well at the show!!! Thanks for showing us what you'll be selling!!!!!
@TheAntiqueNomad

Hello! I have seen exactly one case of jewelry represented as jet that I actually trusted, everyone wants to call black glass beads "jet". I do like the piano shawl and Waterford always catches my eye! I really had fun at the show, sorry it took so long to catch up and respond!

@@TheAntiqueNomad It's been so long since I've seen real jet that I can't remember the last time I saw it. I've always wanted a mourning brooch in jet, but I imagine the prices for it would be astronomical, now. No worries about responding! I know you are quite busy 🙂
