right. when he said my wife didn't have anything to do with this I LAUGHED out loud. like really, bro? She's the whole reason why he felt the need to answer all the critics from the past two years in one slap on Chris. She drug him and their marriage through the mud for views and dollars. And we saw a man we all thought had life figured out crumble before our eyes in the public view while his wife just looked at him like a dog. Unreal.

That’s not what happened here. Usually I can tell if it’s something like that, but this video is really genuine. We can’t really debate about that, because your perception is yours. But you’re kind of missing the humility in the video imo. I’m an actor and this isn’t “acting.” Actors don’t act. They improvise in real time with real emotion using their lines as guardrails. There’s no pretending in acting. Everything is as if it’s truly happening…just saying that here so no one accuses of him of acting during his apology.

I’ve been a Chris fan all my life and the fact that Will slapped him in front of zillions of celebrities anticipating their awards made me so mad I can’t even begin to imagine anything good come out of Will in the future. Will should’ve talked to Chris privately and asked him not to poke fun at Jada or just simply ignored Chris for however long he wants, but no, Will just had to go onstage and smack Chris in front of an audience and yell and cuss out Chris, overshadowing any celebrities’ victories. What Will did was virtually inexcusable, unforgivable and downright embarrassing. Heck, I even agree with the Academy’s decision to ban Will from attending any Academy events for the next 10 years. Here, Will, lemme help you out: I won't ask Chris' forgiveness, because I don't deserve it. Maybe one day when I've forgiven myself I will ask it. I just want to say that I'm sorry. Not as an apology, but as me regretting my actions. There does come a time in a man's life when he must protect the ones he loves, but not from a comedian doing his trade. For those saying I've humiliated Chris I want to say: no, he took it like a champ and came up on top. In that situation he was the hero and I was the villain. I did not humiliate him, but I did manage to humiliate myself. I worked so hard, put so much effort into my acting for years and I feel like it's all been undone by 20 seconds of rage. All that intellect I had to put into my acting methods and I was overcome by such a base instinct as to hurt another human being by following a misguided sense of righteousness. This is not the example I want to show my kids. For all the people out there on my side over this situation, I like to think that in the past I have shown examples of being a role model, but this was not one of them. Follow me for whatever else, but not for this. Not for my lowest point. Thank you for listening. That ought to have done it, Will. But to say stuff like this you have to genuinely be sorry.

Who said that the topic was to apologize to Chris? It was him bringing light to the public of his actions. Have you ever apologized to someone to a camera screen in front of thousands of people? How can you properly apologize to someone who isn't face to face. that's like judging an apology through a text message. Chris has yet to reach out or respond. Some can conclude that its childish of someone wanting to apologize but doesn't make an effort to hear his apology.

He was shamed Infront of the world and he held it together and acted with complete professionalism it speaks volumes about Chris's character. With Will nobody expected him to act the way he did. I still can't believe it, he was the cocky but nice guy of Hollywood. This apology doesn't feel sincere, and it's very late. Despite that fact, I wouldn't want this to completely hamper his career he is a talented man.

@@architcongo499 the fact that Will said so much in this video without really saying anything is what makes me feel like he is not truly sorry to Chris, but rather that he is only trying to protect his own image. It's like when there is a police interrogation of a suspect and they go off on a tangent to make themselves feel better or convince themselves that they are not guilty. Will is essentially doing the same thing here in an attempt to come across as if he is really sorry, but all he is doing is exposing himself for who he really is. If he was truly sorry then he could make due with a simple apology of a few words and be done with it, but he isn't able to do that because he feels guilty.

"There is no part of me that thinks that is a way to behave" is just not a correct way to contextualize your actions. You, in fact, DID act that way and that is just a way of repressing your anger until it resurfaces again. Will is only saying that line because he felt guilt from the backlash he received after the fact, nothing more and nothing less. Until he stops apologizing to Jada in the same breath and understand where that's where his anger stems from, it will all be hallow words and lip service.

One of the reasons I don’t believe this apology is that Will’s son reacted immediately on social media, in real time, with something to the effect that - This is how we Smiths get it done. If that’s what his son thought/thinks, then that was probably the ethos in the home. So - the “There is no part of me…” part of apology rings hollow. If everyone had back slapped Will and thumbs upped him after the slap about the slap (not the Oscar) he’d be going along his merry way now. This is a big fat “I’m sorry ‘cause I got caught” moment.

This looks very staged and insincere imo. You can even tell by the way Will is reading off the questions that this is something his team pressed for him to do to save his public perception. If he was truly remorseful for what he did he would have apologized to Chris after accepting his Oscar. Since he didn’t do that, he should have at least had a serious interview VERY SOON after the incident with some journalist where he’d be asked challenging questions about it. He could have used that hypothetical moment to apologize. Instead, he had his publicist write an apology for him to post on Instagram, and then waited a few months to release a staged “apology” video like this. That Oscar slap really exposed a lot of Will Smith’s true colors he was able to hide from the public eye for so many years.
