This makes arming the trap look far easier than it is. I can never get it to catch

Thank you for this instruction. I caught the rat! Since the rat had been enjoying the seeds from the finch feeder, my bait was peanut butter with bird seed sprinkled on top. Since I was afraid to hold the trap, I used a large spatula to place the trap. I caught the rat!

Very good trap, poisons didnt work over the course of two months but using this trap I got a kill in 3 days

This woman must have superhuman strength. I need my entire hand to hold the kill bar...and still can barely steady it. The trap is way too loose also.

Let me tell you: it hurts like a mother, too. I thought I'd broken my thumb.

Hardest freaking thing to do is set one of these. The first one I got lucky on. So lucky I knew the second one was gonna be a hit or miss. Sure enough, it snapped!!! I screamed, then I realized i was okay. Lmbo. So I tried again and I had to hold that thing down so long to set it that my arms were hurting. But finally, magically, it latched on. Good grief!

@@shellyparritt Lol I read your comment and was so worried about it. I wore heavier gloves for finger protection and used a technique where I used my palm to keep it down and it went well and luckily we caught one! Hopefully you're rat-free too :D

Whats with the skimpy amount of peanut butter? I've always used 10 times that amount saturated in a piece of fabric, 1/2 wide and about 1 1/2 long folded 3 or 4 times and each fold it attached to the triangle hook. Works every time. Too many time traps get licked clean and never go off with peanut butter by itself.

Use dog treats, or some kind of bread/cookie. The bait center usually has a hook you can put them under and squeeze down, so it's harder to get out for the rat and they have to pull on the food to get it. I probably gotta do this if the peanut butter doesn't work, since I also used the peanut butter method.

So many people keep complaining about the trap going off when they're trying to set it back, or it being too hard to set, when I know for a fact they probably never work out their hand muscles or set these damn traps on a flat surface. Stay in school y'all, physics will teach you how free-floating hooks for traps work. 💀

Use the Bait Cage kit for rat traps with these Victor traps to make the rat work harder for the bait and get caught

I can't see why people can't set these.I use Clover Valley peanut butter and have caught 43 so far since 9/4. They are doing sewer work, so that is what has got them hopping...

I tried it and it work tried the other did not work you are the only one that did.

Everytime I bait the trap and attempt to set, the bar never will latch onto the trap. if u r facing the trap, which side do u use. to put the bar on? neither side is extremely hard to get it to stay. is it normally that hard???

This Victor Rat Trap IS Huge! I’ve used your mouse snap traps off/on for 40+ years. Setting them was never a problem! I got the “huge” trap today and fooled with setting it for at least 5 minutes. It will not latch! Any suggestions is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Use qtip to apply bait so no human scent. But u r handling the trap with bare hands??

That's the old design . New one has NO triangle on the pedal to slip long wire under . A major screw up to save one tiny step. If you think setting the one in the video is nerve wracking wait til you try the 'improved' one.

Excellent rat trap!!! very good products!!! But! There are VERY BIG rats, you need a model with more power. Keep making them in the USA with the same good quality. There is a lot of Chinese garbage on the market of very poor quality.

What is the main difference between a plastic and metal rat trap?

If you have a serious rat problem, I'd ditch the traditional trap and stick with the Victor Professional yellow pedal traps.

Yah mine ate from it twice and nadda got to shave down the metal on the catch bar so the slightest movement and it releases

Dont get your scent o. The trap use a q-tip etc. But then shes got her ungloved hands all over the kill bar, rhe wood base etc.

Get the big like in the video. The small ones just piss them off.

Don't transfer scentto bait...Handle the entire trap without gloves.....

Sometimes if rats are too light, especially if they're tiny, they're able to just kind of not set off traps? It's weird, but maybe try using mice and rat traps. Though the mice traps might not be as effective at humanely killing them, it'll definitely go off and still kill it, even if it takes a bit of writhing and squeaking for it to go out. ;_;;

Last set of traps were fine but this set keeps slipping and snapping. My nerves are shot.

Try the extra cruncy. I just put out a trap this afternoon. It usually takes them several days to get used to the trap and all of a sudden in the middle of the night wap!

It could be that the rat trap was faulty during producing it, I'm sorry you had to deal with it going off on your fingers though, I understand how you feel 😭

Smearing that tiny bit of peanut butter isn't the best way. You need to anchor something like beef jerky under that point. And you can add a smear of cheese or peanut butter around it to make it more attractive.

Yes, thank you!! Rats have gotten so much smarter, and have been smart! (Though they're not always using their brains lol) Usually I use a small sized milkbone dog biscuit and squeeze it under the hook, so that way it goes off easier!

I left didn’t open for my dog and 32 rats made their way inside my house and sticky traps a more a joke to them . I had no Clive but to get these and I’m scared to death of them

I hate this style. They work good when you actually succeed at setting the trip bar the PROBLEM IS it takes forever to get the trigger bar to sit properly and you just about break your fingers trying to set it. This company has done a huge disservice in not giving detailed instructions on setting the trap. I put hearing protection on and hold it ever so careful when trying to set the stupid thing. Switched to the plastic jaw snap traps because they click and lock in place while these wood ones scare the shit out of me just trying to set them. Educate your customers Victor otherwise you lose customers, it’s that simple

These rat traps are dangerous to set, I tossed a newly purchased victor trap after several felled attempts at trying to set it, this thing almost snapped my fingers no thanks!

The arm bar sucks only good for one use

It’s too hard to get it to get the arm to stay in these with the “copper” bait plate, for lack of a better term . The ones with the yellow plate thingy are much easier to set. Yes, both types work well but the one with the copper bait piece is too flimsy and a pain in the *ss to set! I live near the marsh (the Landings in Ga) and have em going off all the time around the outside house perimeter. This is no joke: last week alone - 11 dead. They’re marsh rats and everyone has a problem with em, not just me
