    Been using these for a few years. 100% my favorite trap. I have learned a few tricks to make them more effective on small mice that are able to clean the peanut butter out from even the inside of that pedal. The latch bar hook can be bent away from the camera side to make it more sensitive, I also crimp the bait loop down on the near side as shown so they are forced to lick and push the pedal from the far side. caught two in the last hour after they've been cleaning them of the bait this last week.

    Thanks for the tips! But, what's the 'camera' side? Is that a typo? Ya, I tried Google. 😂 Ty in advance for your time. Ps. Would you make a video of how you place the arm differently & how you crimp? Ty!

    Every day I've been catching a mouse with these traps. They're great. Once you get the hang of latching the trigger, they are very effective. You don't even need much bait. Just a thin coating of peanut butter does the job.

    FYI - I've heard crunchy peanut butter is more effective than regular peanut butter. Takes the mice more effort to eat the crunchy stuff, and therefore will make it more likely they'll set the trigger.

    The curl on the pedal has teeth on it. Take a peanut or cashew and gently press it into the teeth so it's lodged in good. Could also tie it down with thread. Then slop peanutbutter on top. Make sure you give it a nice soft-serve swirl on top. Presentation is key here.

    They aren't shy about eating crap in our shop with human scent on it. But, anything you can do to make the traps more effective is worth doing. I wear nitrile gloves working in the shop anyway, so a fresh pair before touching the traps is just fine with me. So far, I've been fairly successful.

    Hold the trap so the nose of the picture of the mouse on the trap is pointed at you.Pull the bow back to the ready position Tilt your hand slightly so gravity works to help keep the retaining arm against the catch on the pedal, gradually release the bow so the tension of the bow holds the retaining arm in place.

  • @PlatypusVomit

    @PlatypusVomit

    6 жыл бұрын

    They should've included how to adjust the sensitivity of the trap in the video. If you bend sideways the part of the trigger that catches the tension bow, you can make it more or less sensitive. You want it as sensitive as you can, so they can't eat the bait off the trigger without tripping it, but if it won't stay set until the mouse gets there you're not going to catch anything.

    Don't just slop the bait on top, the mouse will easily steal it, stuff the bait inside that curl, so the mouse has to really get up in there to get the bait. Also, rodent's don't care about your scent, if they did, they wouldn't be in your house. A rodent would actually eat you, if it got the chance, it don't give a shit what you smell like!

    Unfortunate that the Victor's technical writers product such bad instructions and use such small photographs that one has to go looking for a instructional video on arming the trap. Hope the product works better than the documentation. That said, once one sees the trick in arming the trap, it makes sense and is straightforward. Watch your fingers though. ;-)

    I've always used my finger to bait the trap. I always get my mouse. Mice are stupid. I've never placed the trap with the pedal facing the wall. I always have the kill bar against the wall. I always get my mouse. My.point is....there is no right or wrong way. Mice just want to eat. They'll get caught no matter where you place these traps.

    My problem with the mouse traps is that the trigger requires too much pressure for the mouse to spring the trap so the mice are eating the bait off the pedal but the trap is not being activated. I don't have this problem with Victor rat traps. For some reason there seems to be a definite difference in quality between the mouse traps and rat traps. Unfortunately, often the mice eat the bait off the rat traps and set the rat traps off but the mice are too small to be killed by the rat traps. Sorry, but at this point I cannot recommend Victor mouse traps.

  • @PlatypusVomit

    If you take a pair of pliers and tweak the catch for the drawbar, you can make it more or less sensitive. You want it as sensitive as it can be and still be able to set it. You can set it so it can be set off by tickling it with a hair if you're good enough. I also recommend trying to get some of the peanut butter bait inside the curl of the trigger, so the mouse has to work at it to get all of it out. That's done the trick for me. That, and if you bait the bottom of the trigger as well, the mouse has to play with the trigger more and runs a higher chance of setting it off. Someone suggested soaking a short cotton string in peanut butter so the mouse grabs it and sets the trap off that way. I haven't personally tried string, but logically it seems like it would work. You'd have to make sure it's short enough that they can't grab it while not far enough in to not get caught, but yeah...
