This video is BY FAR the VERY BEST video on this topic. Why? Because you kept the details down to exactly what is necessary to teach one how to set these traps! You briefly explained why others may not be humane, then moved on. Folks who gab just to hear their own voices drive me crazy. Others have never mentioned the catch part, so after hearing them run on and on, they never explained exactly what they were hooking that bar into (several holes for those who never saw the catch under there because of their angle and no mention of it} so we wasted time trying to hook it unto holes, not under the catch. GREAT VIDEO!!!

Ohmygosh - Thank you SO much for making this! I'm 65, and I've always used humane traps, but we've been invaded by mice and rats this winter. They've eaten the dishwasher, the new refrigerator, the stove, and the drain hose for the washer so now I have to replace part of the flooring. And they're definitely mice, but they're huge - 6"-7" (not counting the tail). Plus I saw a rat run under a cabinet today. So I stashed the cats and dogs in a bedroom so no one loses a foot and sat down to set these, and I just could not figure out where the arm was supposed to catch. You saved me from having to call one of my sons and ask a dumb question! They're always nice about it, but if a senior starts asking too many dumb questions, then the kids start nudging us towards some rathole "retirement community" ("...and they have Bingo and everything, Mom. Doesn't that sound nice?")

OMG, that sounds so scary and costly too. I've had a rat loose in my house for 2 weeks now - and fear it might be damaging appliances that I can't see as yet too. I tried the humane catch & release, but it didn't work. Then I put out a poison trap - thought maybe it worked, but heard the rat rummaging through papers near my chair in living room last night. So now I'm forced for face killing it with deadly trap too - and I've never had this problem before or had to use one of these traps. Hope your problem is solved quickly. Wish me luck! I love animals, and it's taken real fear and shock to get me to this point. LOL

Oh my gosh Connie! Did you catch the mouse? So sorry for your loss. I lost my husband too, just last month. In 26 years we never had any mice. Late last night I heard something fall in the furnace closet & 2 mice came scampering out of the closet in my direction! Terrified me so much jumped up on the couch and screamed! That seemed to terrify them, they ran in the other direction & hid. I’m guessing they made it back to the original closet they were in, because there are sunflower seeds for the birds in there. So I got some traps today & didn’t know how to set them until I watched this video. I am going to set them out tonight & see what happens. I’m squeamish about it, but I am more squeamish about living with mice! -Sherri-

Hello there.First of all I’m so very sorry for ur loss and I will keep you in my prayers for peace of heart.I bought the traps but have not set them yet as my brother has been quite sick this week in hospital.Having hearth cath tomorrow so after tomorrow I plan on going to garage and do some mouse catching.Lord I hope I don’t have any in the house as I think I would have to move into a hotel until someone caught that guy.I’m terrified of them.I’ve only seen one in the garage.I can only imagine that you didn’t get much sleep that night . In another video that you tuber suggested hot gluing a round pretzel to trap and he swears it catches them all the time as they stay on trap trying to get pretzel off so easy to catch them.I have a bag of pretzels waiting to go 😂 Good luck catching yours. We both are learning new things and you know I think we will succeed.Take Care

I've used the Victor wooden traps loaded with peanut butter for years, but occasionally, a mouse will successfully lick out all the peanut butter without tripping the trap. I ran out of peanut butter at work last year and I needed to set a trap. All I could find to use was a piece of peperoni from a Red Baron Supreme Classic crust pizza. Rolled it up and stuck it in the hole of the metal part of the trap. Next day - dead mother-jumpin mouse! Woo Hoo!

you should set traps perpendicular to the wall with the bait end against the wall. you also don't need quite so much pb, just a thimble full is enough. the more you put, the more likely they can grab some and run away, defeating the purpose. you want them to have to get as close to the trigger mechanism as possible and a ton of overflowing pb won't do that as easily

Thank you so much for making this video! I bought a poison trap thing at Home Depot - but the rat must be laughing at me, cuz it's not falling for it. Now I'm going to be forced to get more aggressive - even though it's really upsetting me to use a killer trap like yours. But like you - I'd never use a glue trap either. While I was looking at traps, many men bought those inhumane glue traps - I think that is wrong! Killing is much more merciful than maiming, if killing is the ONLY way to catch them. First I tried one of those humane traps, where you catch and release it back into the garden or backyard - but the rat in my house wasn't curious enough to catch that way. I don't know which is worse, hearing it scurrying around me or finding it dead the next morning. The rat traps are really BIG and look like they'll take off my finger if I set it wrong, so watching you demonstrate how they work - I think I can do it safely now.

It should have been mentioned first - Bait the trap before messing with the rigging of the bar. I'm using the big rat trap, and that bar will break your finger in you set it off fiddling with it. I bait the trap, then take to where I want to place it, set the trap, and carefully place it. And I agree, any of these traps that just trap the mouse either torture it or leave it for you to have to kill it, and we don't need to set them free somewhere else - they're vermin.

I had this little goody bag that giant sent that had some stuff for babies (laundry detergent, lotion, etc.). When I was chilling I kept hearing it being rattle and it was right next to me on my bed I was like wtf am I hearing? I didn't think it was my air conditioner blowing it but what really got me to check what it was I saw a bottle move. So when I hit the bag a little I saw a black blur jolted off my bed and it scared the fuck out of me.

Okay see, I would just shoot them. But, the ones around my home are very keen and jittery. They'll only show themselves after several hours of quietness, and, only for a moment. If they detect the slightest noise or movement, they go into hiding again. They're haunting little boogers. Especially when Moe likes to sleep with you. Oh I've been after big Moe for quite some time.

Apparently when setting a mouse trap, you should wear gloves to avoid getting your scent on the trap (which deters the mouse from approaching). Is this true? Lol

I searched for a video 'cause instructions weren't clear enough... and I experienced a problem with the bait pedal that didn't seem to hold the arm bar. All I needed was to release some pressure. Plus, it almost catches my toes when I let it fall. Haha thanks so much!!

THANK YOU!!!!! Wish I had seen your video before getting my fingers snapped a few times! Ugh! I couldn't understand the directions saying "secure on bent tab". Thought it meant to place it inside the tab hole and maybe it wasn't made right. Now I get to just carefully place it ALONG side of the bent tab. I like the same traps with the yellow cheese looking tab Victor sells too. They have BOTH done the trick even though my daughter (and I) feel terrible when we see them, but it is the humane way. You're instructions were perfect!!!!

excellent advice, I would recommend also placing a piece notebook paper under the trap so blood and sometimes "stuff" is not on the floor then you just toss the whole load in the garbage can. these traps are very cheap, i never reuse one, just into the plastic bag and out to the curb

well done. I use the same method, but found that mice leave a scent for other mice to follow, so I leave the blood and what have you on the trap. i apply the peanut butter using gloves and a popsicle stick. it works great. Great video brotha.

I have tried the Victor traps with the trigger you showed. But I found the mice were able to lick clean the peanut butter without setting off the trap. This is because there is a certain amount of "play" to the trigger. You can wiggle it quite a bit before it triggers. What I would do is place the peanut butter on the trap and set it. Then VERY carefully, with my thumb lightly on the main spring bar, I "walk" the catch lever right to the edge of the trigger. I have been able to set a trap so sensitively, just placing it on the ground can cause it to trigger. It is almost an art using sight and feel to determine where the edge of the trigger release point is. Yes, I have gotten my fingers snapped more than once. Since then, I have switched to traps with a pedal type pan trigger. Almost %100 effective.
