It’s astonishing how desperate they are to have a “romantic” partner. Such intensity is supposed to diminish once the reproductive years have past by, as it’s entirely redundant. However, these sad older folk are clearly crippled by this inappropriate yearning, which is unfortunately accompanied by a propensity for delusional thinking and cognitive deficiencies. They absolutely require the supervision of a competent legal guardian (selected by a _competent_ advocate, not themselves). BTW, I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that some of these victims are suffering from significant age-related mental decline, including things like mini-strokes and dementia. It’s a bit hard to believe that they’ve successfully accumulated wealth throughout their lives whilst being so gullible and naive. A recent impairment of mental faculties is a reasonable explanation for some cases.

  • @MinaMcKay

I was watching a show called W5. A Woman in Canada lost $205,000.00 in a Catfish Scam. She went on to write a book about it and met another man online who said he would help her with the publishing. Of course they "Fell in love". He never asked for money but wanted to send her on a vacation because he was "In love". He sent her on vacation to Ethiopia. He couldn't get to Ethiopia but asked her to fly to Hong Kong to meet connect. Before the flight he sent her several new outfits to wear. She flew to Hong Kong and is now in prison. The buttons on the clothing were filled with cocaine.

I saw that, too. Who takes a romantic vacation to Ethiopia and not only stays the entire time when he didn't show up but then goes on to Hong Kong to meet him? I have been blessed to travel to many countries and many times alone for business. But, even with an agenda for business, I educated myself about where I was going. If I was going to countries or cities with reputations for certain crimes, I was vigilant. Even meeting people on planes can be suspect. In this day and age everyone must be vetted to end up in your personal life. It is sad but true. That woman on the show had a defence as to be convicted the person must know they were carrying drugs to be convicted. Since HK has gone back to China, I suspect that will be very difficult to prove. Interestingly enough, when I went to Thailand on business I was warned not to buy customized shoes, clothes with and without BUTTONS, small decorative pieces of furniture, statues or anything to be sent on to my home. They hide drugs in the buttons, hollowed out heels of shoes, in hems of clothing, in linings and handles of handbags and a million places decorative items. Once they have your address, when you get home you are burglerized. Or, if you buy several things from one store, to make packing to leave easier, they provide a free piece of luggage with everything packed. Just grab the bag and go. When you get to the baggage claim, your souvenir bag wasn't there. It was long gone the min it hit the belt or was relayed on to places unknown by a very well compensated luggage handler. Unbelievable.

Is the social secury number so important? I never lived in the US. ^^ In my country, we have a national number that no one but the person herself is supposed to know. But even if someone discovers that number, he can't do anything, because the ID card is still mandatory (and making a fake ID card is as hard as making a fake bank card, because it's an electronic card too - if the devices can't read them, it's not considered valid). If someone steals your ID (therefore, discover your national number, that is writted on the card), he still can't do anything, because the ID Card is protected by a code (again, like a bank card). The scammer CAN'T: - Ask a new card pretending being you and having lost the card, or that the card has been stolen. Because, the first step to have a new card (no matter because you lost it or it has been stoled) is going to the police office to be identified. - Ask a new code, pretending being you and having forgotten it. Because: 1) the new code will be sent at your official adresse per mail (and he can't pretend having moved out, because he will be required to go to the local administration, where he will be identified, to change the adress). 2) You have to go to your local administration (where you're identified) with the mail you recieved to activate your code. Furthermore, the national databanks have your ID photo. So, if the scammer tries to make a fake card with his photo instead of yours, it would be immediately noticed by the administration. :)

When my fiance was 11, she was with a 19 year old who was bipolar and abusive. My fiance has lifelong claustrophobia because he rolled him up in a rug, kicked him, then sat on top of it so he was stuck in the rug. He smashed his Xbox because he accidentally ran over a sock with a push mower. By the time we met, she was dating a guy my fiance's age who refused to work and just played video games and took Xanax all day. The only thing I will give him credit for is that he cleaned the house. After him she dated my fiance's dad's friend and she is still with him, unfortunately. He once called my fiance's sister a bitch in front of me when she was 12. I lost it, her mom said nothing. He once locked her out of the house in the snow while she only had pajamas on to "teach her a lesson" You'd be surprised what people will endure or let their kids endure just to not be alone!

Being inactive and lonely has a lot to do with these situations. My friend’s mother is 70. She lives by herself since her husband passing 10 years ago. But she is always smile and happy. She likes to go out and being active - doing volunteer work at Food Bank, senior living places or children’s hospital. In her free time, she goes on a group vacation with her friends or visits her kids/ grandkids. Occasionally she brings home some friends from her church and they cook out at her house. She always finds things to do and that makes her happy. I really admire her. My friend wants her mom to come and live with her, but her mom doesn’t want to. She is an independent and happy granny.

@@debrajustice41 I agree with you, some people are seriously lacking in imagination, humanity, empathy and compassion, and overly endowed with superficial judgements which they feel entitled to freely share on here, forgetting that their comments will cause hurt to an actual person! These are the comments that you can quite safely ignore as they are the opinions of random unempathetic strangers who haven't walked in your shoes and are unable to imagine ever doing so. You're a lovely lady, you deserve love, so keep doing you, (but stay away from the internet!) xxx

This woman got to spend 40 yrs with her loved one. So much time to be loved and cherished by one person. I would hold those memories and his love so tight in my heart no one else would ever be able to get in. I feel like she’s trashing that love by letting this scammer into her life. Wasn’t his love enough for a lifetime. Well it would be for me.

Just imagine what a small animal rescue or other charity could have done with that money. I have no sympathy.
