@@kdeloris2225I know dude, I'm still struggling to get my life together 6 years after being taken for a ride from my ex who destroyed my credit. at least I was diagnosed with others and after everything ended, lol because it opened my eyes to the fact that I'm likely to be manipulated by people since I couldn't believe somebody would just use me for a place to stay in for lines of credit and stuff, I would never do anything like that without actually paying them back! so basically I spent my entire life savings on my daughter's dad trying to help him with his drug addictions cuz I was letting him use my car so he could get back and forth to work, paying for his food and medical and all this stuff that he refused to get taken care of through social services, I just recently found out that the guy was on fentanyl almost the entire time! I feel so stupid because I was accusing him of having a meth addiction! I work as a substance use disorder therapist, at least I was doing that and I was a program manager at a hospital for 10 years before that guy ruined my life. now I'm making less money than I made in my 20s and I'm 43 years old living in one of the most expensive cities - Seattle. My car got totaled and my dad has cancer and it's just like a whole bunch of real life problems going on, I owe $1,500 right now on my car payment otherwise they're going to repossess it in less than 2 weeks and I'm really scared. I have no friends or family to help, and my credit is completely destroyed. I wasn't raised to know anything about things like APR credit or anything so I really got taken for a ride once I hit 21. The fact that I had grew up around gang members and druggies didn't make things easier for me to make good decisions once I got away from that lifestyle in my late teens.

This is Nate. I want you all to know that my mother was, in fact, a very BOOK smart and accomplished person with a Masters degree and a 4.0 gpa. You also know book smarts and STREET smarts are very different things. I also notice she does not have the hard drive like memory that she used to. I spent 11 years as a Sheriff's Deputy. I learned sometimes you just have to meet people where they are at to help them solve problems, instead of where you would like them to be. What I want people to see is how, through the grooming process, they get their hooks in so deep that it's akin to cult like brainwashing. The scammers themselves, in the messages I read, seemed to be very lacking on the IQ scale, but their playbook (grooming process) is solid.

my mother has a master's degree as well, two in fact - but she's not a genius, and she is **not** high iq; although she's not susceptible to scams (to my knowledge, at least), i can admit to myself that she has her intellectual blind spots - she isn't nearly as intelligent as i believed her to be as a child. if these scammers are able to convince your mother that a billionaire and an accomplished general need gift cards... well, it may be time for a reality check.

Adults are and can be just as stupid as children. I don't treat anyone differently because of age. I learned that early on in life when I recognized that hitting children is WRONG. The fact that adults think it's okay to hit a DEFENSELESS CHILD, but will throw a fit and cry "assault" when you hit them, I knew adults can be and are just bigger children. Why is it okay to hit children, but not adults who are supposed to know better 100x over and more than a child? I'll never know, but that FACT pisses me off and is the soul reason why I hate adults and treat them all equally because your age means nothing to me.

I was married for almost 31 years to a man who was retired Navy. BELIEVE ME, the military does not leave their guys stranded in some foreign country with no way to get home! It's too bad that so many women believe that men in the military are not receiving necessary medical treatment or even food because Uncle Sam just leaves them in some other land to rot. THAT IS NOT TRUE. As just the widow of a man who retired about 50 years ago and who has been deceased for over 15 years, EVEN I am VERY well taken care of. Romance scammers are the lowest of the low because they know that a kindhearted but naive woman cannot stand the thought of some poor guy "stuck" in some far-off land with no way to get home and without even having enough food to eat. THEY ARE LIARS!!!! They are looking for a way to separate you from your money! Refuse to send them money and see how long they remain your "soulmate". These scammers totally disgust me!

The irony of the scammer telling her not to believe everything she sees on the internet
They say they’re ready for the truth, but they’re never ready
I’m seeing a pattern for people that were romance scammed. 1. They have a false view of themselves and their physical attractiveness. 2. They actually think that a general/ rock Star/actor or model that has their pick of young people would choose them. 3. They think that a celebrity or general would just randomly contact them on the internet. 4. They think they are highly Intelligent and would not be foolish enough to be a victim of a scam. 5. They don’t actually want to know the truth and are willing to pay scammers money to keep the fantasy alive. It seems like an epidemic of lonely people willing to pay someone for a false sense of belonging in a relationship. It’s a sad testament to the state of mental health in this country.

Agree. One thing I noticed is many of these victims have been through trauma in relationships, and they really think their life is over. They seem to be older and have the belief they are on the scrap heap. So when someone fun & good looking comes calling, they have feelings they thought they'd never feel again and that's intoxicating. Another bite of the cherry. I think deep down they all know it's not real, but as long as they can lie to themselves they don't care. They might even enjoy feeling like a sugar mommy or daddy, again lying to themselves but suddenly they feel powerful whereas before they were not. One elderly lady said she was addicted to the (simple, "caring") messages, she knew. She just loved the attention. I feel sad so many elderly people aren't enjoying their lives and are suffering with extreme loneliness.

People need to get off online and just go back to meeting people in real life.

@@rosemarywilliams9969Exactly... and also, even if it is an up and up online relationship, you don't get the same sense of them that you get in person.. their smell, their mannerisms, the way it feels to walk next to them, how they treat others out in public... So many things..
The part that puzzles me the most is how they can believe someone with money can ask them for money! I don't get it. Do we get dumber as we age?! I guess I'll find out when I'm older too!

I’m older already. Age has nothing to do with it. Lol

Literally yes lol. Dementia and mental decline in general is very common past the age of 65/70. One way to combat that is to stay active both physically and mentally. Ppl who continue to work into their elderly years keep their neurons firing. Including if someone has Alzheimer’s or other serious mental decline, our brains if kept active and challenged will keep creating new neural pathways around the damaged areas. Caffeine has also been shown to help with that. This lady for sure has mental decline tho, and the best thing her son can do is get a POA to have full control over her finances. I’ve worked in the medical field for over a decade, including many geriatric patients. The memory care units are the saddest cuz they often aren’t capable of understanding why they can’t just do whatever they want.
This lady has no idea what they are talking about. They can tell her "You have been scammed" and she still doesn't believe it. She will 100 percent do it again. Maybe it will be woth Johnny Depp.
It's not rocket science. Here's how to tell if this imaginary person made up by a scammer is indeed a scammer. THEY ASK FOR MONEY
I'm a little nervous about Kathy being in an episode. She's so gullible and i guarantee she'll be scammed again at some point. This video may make her more of a target.

She sent money to "Elon Musk". She went straight to the top of the sucker's list at that point, and the General Milley nonsense made sure that she'll stay there.

I’m hoping her son will keep an eye on her social media to make sure she doesn’t get scammed again. He seems like a good guy.

You're right, that one lady had 10 scammers. No doubt they all know each other and she uses her real name on everything so they can find her easily. It's maddening.
Our parents when we were growing up: "be careful who you talk to online. You don't know who's on the other side of the screen. Strangers online aren't your friends." Our parents now: "hold my beer"

That's the main reason why these people get scammed: "I'm a really smart person"... no, you are NOT 🤷🤦🏽♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The son is funny. He should do stand-up. Go to an open mic and rattle off some jokes about his mom getting scammed.
Women have a hard time accepting their fading looks. Kathy was STUNNING as a young woman, like a movie star. She probably still sees some of that young woman in the mirror but no one else does. Scammers know these women have fragile egos and these women delude themselves into believing that strangers will fall hopelessly in love with them online.

Cosmetic surgeons are also raking in the money because of this. I live in Naples FL and I don't think I've met many women without at least Botox.

SOME women have a hard time…and embarrass themselves and everybody else in the process. Personally, I look forward to the day when I can go shopping in a 100% cotton nightgown and fuzzy pink slippers and nobody will notice. There is a special freedom that comes with age if people would only embrace it.

@@kasarija I'm 59, and even though I am clean and put together, I go unnoticed. From my youth when I had the attention, I never liked it much. It starts waning in your 40s , decreasing each year. You'd think by 70 people would have adjusted. I think more is going on.

You really may be onto something here with the psychology behind this. Because some of them actually do seem pretty intelligent and you think HOW???? But maybe a huge ego can short circuit your logic.
