So Gondry kinda developed bullet-time pre-matrix... and the next shot they dig into is another sort of bullet time with different characters moving at different framerates.... huh. Also, not a filmmaker, but I feel the statement "this show has given me a vocabulary" works for me as well. It's pretty neat seeing just how erudite Rogen is in the moment.

Gondry is an underrated freaking GENIUS! He makes awesome shots with some very simple but very clever solutions. The man deserves more recognition.

It's nice to see Seth Rogen reflect and learn from this type of show. I worked with Seth's show in the past as a VFX Artist and it's incredible hard to work with many other directors that don't know the vocabulary and what VFX requires in general. I respect Seth for being open about it and hope a lot more people learn about VFX thanks to this show! peace!

I believe it's because if you're using practical effects, the people setting and rigging everything for them are part of IATSE, which means they cost more and are given more protections. As far as I know, digital effects people aren't able to unionize as easily and therefore the studios exploit them.

@@harrisonwilliams8276 There are several reasons. Money. Time (which is also money). Actual quality control. And just plain old control. Sure VFX can change practical shots after the fact but it's still harder (or an additional cost vs filming for VFX to start). So, the prod-co or studio can meddle even more in post if something is shot with VFX in mind. The days of Ellen Ripley standing in a room of xenomorph eggs, holding a pulse rifle / flamethrower, cradling Newt, and staring up at the alien queen are disappearing. Sure, we still get a lot of that composition but very, very few CGI works hold a candle to shots like that. There's a tactile verisimilitude to practical work. Very few directors (like Cameron, Spielberg, Blomkamp, Bigelow, or Villeneuve) really know how to use VFX properly.

Seth Rogan has been my by far, favorite actor in movies since i was just a little kid. And it's beyond cool seeing him talk about the CGI and VFX Of alot of classic movies I still keep in my mind rent-free.

Given how many great effects are in Future Man I'm kind of surprised you guys didn't go into any of those. Would love to hear some behind the scene stories on that show with how many nods to other classic Sci-Fi movies there are

I remember sneaking into the theatres to watch This is the End. Only now many years later can I actually come to appreciate how well the VFX were done. This episode was excellent!

It’s so cool to think about Directors and producers watching this show in order to learn how to better communicate to their visual effect artists.

Gotta love the reverb on Seth's laugh at the beginning

That's actually quite wholesome to hear Seth reaching out to you to be on a show where he learned to better improve his communications to VFX artists.

I forget that his laugh isn’t just a meme until he laughed on this episode

I recently did an assignment on Gondry and I would absolutely LOVE to see him on this show one day - such a fascinating director

Wren, rocking the Bridge 4 shirt!!! I already loved this show, but now my respect for it just went through the roof.

This was so unexpected. I’m so glad this exists, Seth is incredible. Bring him back. Have him bring people with him. I’m so down for more.

If they bring him back the gotta replace the laugh in post, that thing was ear-breaking.

More Rogen! The guy is such a skilled filmmaker and knows SO MUCH!

Wouldn’t call it high art but I enjoyed it.

The discussion about budgets at around 10:00 reminds me of the difference between the movies “Midway” (2019) and “Dauntless” (2019). Both of them released the same year and were about the same story of the Battle of Midway but the CGI in Dauntless left a lot to be desired while the CGI in Midway was phenomenal.

So two weeks later, and I think what everyone wants to know is: Did you play Smash while Seth was there, and did he main Donkey Kong?

Holy shit I cannot believe you guys actually had Seth Rogen on the show, you’re absolutely crushing it!

His laugh haunts me, I hear it in my sleep. It keeps me awake. It echoes through the darkest parts of my mind, following me everywhere I go. It will follow me until the day I die, it will follow me into the afterlife. It will never end.

I love that they're like "so hey, what should we shill for you?" and he's just "nah, tell them to watch Paul Verhoeven movies".

I feel like I scrolled way too long for someone to recognize it! I was so happy when I saw it!

I love how everyone thought that Seth Rogen is just a celebrity who looks high and has contagious laugh when he has more knowledge than hollywood filmmakers nowadays.

Words can't describe how happy I'm with this episode. Seth, if you're aware of the comment section, pretty please come back for more episodes every once in a while. What a bonkers treat ❤️‍🔥

There is a USSR animated short movie called "Hedgehog in the Fog" 1975. It has many awards and very interesting animations of water and fog.
