So Cheers 🍻 Although I can’t take credit for all of it (most of it was already figured out beforehand) I don’t think anybody had found the original link to the Illuminati type code. There’s something to be said about how the devs made it this scary while being set in the day time. just goes to show how talented they really were with creating a scary environment. they could have easily made it night time and much darker, but it just wouldn’t have been the same

WaW zombies is the only zombies that has genuinely horrorified/scared/creeped me the fuck out, especially as a kid. I actually played Verrückt recently and lasted farther than 5 rounds. Once I saw my first zombie, full on sprinting toward me, it actually almost made me jump. I didn't even know of Verrückt's unique aspects besides the separation of teammates. Truly a map for masochists though.

I definitely think "teddy is the biggest liar" refers to the teddy bear that moves the box, since that mechanic was first introduced in Verruckt. Teddy wasnt used as a nickname for Richtofen until years later in black ops. he wasn't even in WaW yet at the time, even though the devs were probably in the works of creating him.

Richtofen was in WaW. I think that Verruckt was the introduction map to the characters, though it might've been a different map I'm pretty sure the DLC trailers launched with the photos and names of the playable characters. All of the character models are pulled straight from the game's campaign. Dempsey is Pvt Polanski, Nikolai is Pvt Chernov, Richtofen was the general that you assassinate in the first mission that you play as Petrenko, and Takeo was the commaning officer of the Japanese soldiers that Roebuck kills to save you in the very first mission.

That picture that you interpret as a zombie eating an arm might be a reference to killroy. In WW2 soldiers used a sort of symbol that they would graffiti on walls of places they had been stationed at or had been. I would suggest looking it up its very interesting and looks very similar. So my thought is maybe a captured POW with knowledge of what 935 had done was kept there and wrote on the walls. Possibly the marines of nacht were captured after they survived the night because their fate was unclear?
@Andyfromtoystory

Came here for this comment I instantly thought of Killroy and that’s so fucking cool how the devs threw that little nod in
I think the overall atmosphere and the sounds you here in the map can give almost any person just sheer fear. The screams of patients add that uncomfortable aura basically. That’s why Verrükt is the most terrifying and yet fun map. Plus the speed the zombies have are scary as hell.
Wow, this video is awesome. The research of the real story is genuinely amazing and eye opening. Addendum: In the golden age of Zombies, there used to be a Spanish speaking youtuber called Psychomantis who made tutorials and theories (which other Zombies youtubers called too far fetched, over analytical and absurd), the most inafamous of his theories was about Verrückt's wall drawings, he said that it cointained prophecies, hints of the lore and future maps (like the destroyed city and graveyard, it has a giant foot over it and said it was a hint of Origins).
Please do more of these deep-dives into the zombies maps! I feel like the way you break things down really helps me understand the zombies story much better.
WaW was the best COD at capturing the horrors of WW2. It was a terrifying game, and I couldn't play Zombies by myself because it straight up gave me nightmares. Great video!

The drawing at 8:54 isn't just a reference to a zombie eating someone's arm, it's also a nod to the popular KILROY WAS HERE drawing that soldiers made back in the day. I hope you see this comment.
It’s Friday night, me and my mates have a free house, two crates of beer, and loads of pizzas to get us through a night of nazi zombies
It's crazy that there's hundreds of thousands of people still interested in the things that plagued my mind as a kid. Verruckt was insane! Still to this day stands out as one of the only horror focused maps in Zombies, free from the larger Aether story to just focus on being an unsettling, pressuring experience. I always was scared of this map from how the zombies are uniquely fast here, the super sprinter Verruckt zombies still freak me out. I was so safe on Der Riese with my PaP PPSH. They wanted this map to be freaky and have an impression and it definitely worked
Cod zombies had so much depth I used to spend hours with my friends figuring out all the Easter eggs and glitches that were in these maps, was brilliant fun

I wont lie the first zombies map I played was Kino, and I thought that map alone was pretty scary. But when I got the WAW maps for BO1. Holy shit I thought and still think to this day, Verrukt it the most scariest zombies map. Its also really cool how they went with designing the maps.
‘The guilty are known. The victims are unforgettable’
So ein banger video
If you look at any spot on Verrukt, you can hear a man screaming. That man tried to solve a zombies easter egg.
I love how they advertised this as based on the multiplayer map when it shares way more elements with the campaign layout. All three are clearly just the dev team being creative with assets so they can fill the game with so much nuanced detail, but it's funny to note.
Those sprinters still scare me all these years later! 😨😩
I have played this map numerous times with friends, but every single time I was tasked to go somewhere alone in this map, for example to find the box, I was always a little nervous. Especially inbetween rounds or when we had 1 crawler left and everything was eery and quiet. Excellent map

Stumbled across your vids and dude they’re awesome. Seriously makes me miss being a kid and playing all these. You should do Shi no Numa! Keep up the content brotha
wow this is really crazy! This makes me think not only were those making this super passionate about making a game, but also very smart and curious about history, and creative at the same time. Its no wonder that its so hard for modern games to create this.
This and der riese are my favorite maps of all time I like the fact that verrukt has those tight corridors to navigate it made training the zombies damn near impossible which added an element of challenge to it that the other maps didn't have.

I played this for the first time completely blind last night. I instantly recognized the music that played from the WaW campaign, specifically when you are decimating German soldiers as a Soviet gunner. I think the location is also from the campaign. Even though you could say this map connects with the lore of other zombies maps, to me this felt more like the nightmare of your character. It's his nightmare of the Germans coming back to kill him, at that place where they were killed. You are trapped like how they were trapped. The hoard surrounding and coming for you. There is no escape, there is only holding out.
I fuckin love ur videos!!! Idk how your not at a million subs right now… Keep up the great content, love from the UK✌🏼

I am so glad I got to experience this era of cod and cod zombies 'live'. Modern players will never know the feeling of seeing that cutscene at the end of the WaWcampaign, the hype when rumours about a new zombies map (verruckt) and perks being introduced. Those were the glory days of cod and online multiplayer as a whole.
You keep these kind of videos up I'm going to subscribe to you
6:32 Bro I was NOT ready for that.
The motoneuron bit is just a torn out sentence from physiology book and I don’t see any way how it explains zombie movement. It’s out of context but it’s incredible to know the passion of the dev team, going so far into actually trying to scientifically come up with explanations for zombie motor activity. I would assume at some point they had given up and just went “Meh, Aether, magic”.
I remember playing this map alone and literally not even getting past 5 rds before I shut it off. It got to me that good, I literally had to "brave" it. So well made for its time. I missed WaW so much, I downloaded her digitally on my archaic Xbox 1 (1st gen) and I love playing it.
The broll, the explanations, transitions, animations, are all perfection. I look forward to every video you post now.
nothing like playing Verrückt and flushing a toilet three times for the memes; to start up one of my favorites themes in roughly the COD zombies songs for a long time.
This map provided me with nightmares for weeks, and I slept under the blanket in the heat for the longest time waking up in sweat
This level of attention to detail in just one singular map is nowhere to be found in modern call of duty titles.

i love the lore behind cod zombies as a teen and kid i would do anything i could to spend more time on my computer just to find out lore or secrets in cod. zombies will forever hold a special spot in my heart
The "Zombie eating a human arm" drawing is a reference to "Kilroy was here", a meme drawing that allied soldiers plastered across Europe during the war.
Honestly I wasn't just scared of this map. World at war as a whole game scared me so much as a kid. Even the main menu and music made me want to switch it off and play lego star wars instead. They just don't make them like this anymore.

Tbh this was a good explanation about what made the map feel special. I feel a similar way. I think I'm gonna add to your points eventually...
it's so sad we don't see games like this anymore. I was obsessed with COD Zombies when i was younger. went to shit. so much detail in these early games. Garuntee a Zombies game in itself would fly.
as one of those kids who discovered zombies after beating waw campaign. waw still remains my fav zombies modes and verruckt is my most favourite map because of the difficulty, it plays like no other map especially with how unforgiving it was to get hit by a waw zombie. i really wish they never got so focused on making convoluted easter eggs and crazy features and just made more survival maps. i havent really played zombies past bo3 only tried them besides ww2 zombies which i didnt mind bc of the actual horror feeling it gave
This is what I love about old zombies imo WAW and Bo1 zombies is the only zombies that had fear factor in the games. WAW did it best Verruckt has always been my favourite waw map, and my it's in my top 3 out of the classics
