The most real and enjoyable van life tour I have ever seen. Love Her outlook on life and the thrift store finds are amazing. Makes van life seem attainable and a beautiful place to be. Wow! This interview is so amazing and encouraging. I am older in life, and see so many younger people doing vanlife, spending so much money kitting out their vans with new stuff. It's totally not necessary and this proves it. A huge inspiration for me to keep on track of my goal, and relief knowing you don't have to save thousands to have a practical and comfy moving home. I've literally watched hundreds of van/car tours and interviews. This is by far, my favorite. Maybe it's because I have 2 kitties and rarely see people interviewed that have cats and how they prep their space to work for them. Kitties are very different than dogs and require more planning...her back wall with the screen is just genius. I love her life philosophy, just everything about her is delightful! I got a lot of wonderful ideas from this interview. Thank you so much!

I'm almost 70 and I have thoughts about hitting the road. I'd need to exercise and walk first, but I need to do that anyway. I also have cats...I can't go without cats! I would probably take limited trips rather than live in a van. I'd rather have a home base at this point. Anyone with thoughts on this, how do you manage medications and doctor's appointments? I admire you, Cindy. You are independent and happy with life. That's the way to be.

Hi catalot. I'm 72 and I've been fulltime on the road since last December. Before I left I started walking with hiking poles to build my strength. It made all the difference. Medications would be different for everyone. Maybe your Dr. could give you advice on that. Possibly having your prescriptions with a nation wide chain like Walmart or CVS would help. 🤔

I love that you have a cat tree in your van and I also agree with your philosophy about people and life. Happy travels.

This was a great video. I have two cats. Because of them, I’m not finding the “purrfect” rv. Cindy has a perfect cat setup, meeting all their needs. I love the back area with the safe hiding areas.

I am a retired teacher from Ohio, and I used to take route 30 west to get to work. I had many moments where I told myself to just keep driving. “Go west young man!” I never did follow through because of family, but this video really inspired me…I’m free! What am I waiting for? Just do it!

I'm love the way your van looks, warm and inviting. I look forward to following you! 👍 I'm a boondock in a city I am well familiar with. I'm 56 and like you say there are more good people than there are bad ones. I broke down and a guy came out of the bushes to assist pushing my van to safety. Because he heard the rude drivers honking and speeding pass me. Yes JUST DO IT! Follow your instincts & be aware of your surroundings. If it's not safe or it to loud. Just jump in your driver's seat and find another safe place to park. I'm 4 months into vanlife. I purchased my van in Spring of 2018. I'm l have so much freedom & no stress. I was working 6 to 7 days a week 12 hour shifts & struggling to make ends meet. I'm Loving vanlife! I wish I would of done it several years ago! 😃❤👍

@@donnajordan3241 Oh! So kind of you! Finally I went to Belize, just Belize Mexico. So I spend a week in the US from Detroit to Texas, then Mexico, all along the golf cost, and finally, after 17 days, I arrived at Belize and stayed there 15 months.

I don't let the news bother me either. We live in an amazing country. There are so many great people out there all over doing good things helping others. I use humor in my life every day.

I recently had a stroke. Totally unexpected, not overweight etc but my first concern was for someone to be able to go and take care of my cats while I was in the hospital! I didn't care about rehab and learning how to speak again, I wanted my cats taken care of! THEY take care of ME!!

Love your van. It’s very cool. Like how you think outside the box. I did a shed cabin and did like you got everything thrifting or free. It’s the way to go. It makes everything special. You remember where everything came from and what it cost. Your kitties are so cute ! I have a one orange & white . I took in his mother and he was born in my living room. My daughter adopted his sister the vet adopted one and the hardware store adopted one. Sadly momma kitty we believe was taken. It’s been 3 years and I still miss her, we have 3 cats and 3 huskies. Had puppies too right in the live room. We adopted Millie and didn’t know she was pregnant. Three weeks later 7 husky pups were born. It was like heaven on earth around here. My boy husky Dakota who’s been neutered for year though he was the daddy. And my other female husky pearl became an aunt. She gets so excited when one comes to visit. She has to take them out back to play. And momma Millie still cleans everything when she sees them, huskies are very family oriented. We didn’t sleep for 10 weeks but it was one of the best experiences we ever had. Millie had been living on the streets a while. She had heart worms. And she was only 29 pounds when she gave birth. So we had to give the puppies formula. They were strong and beautiful. Millie went through treatments and weights 62 pounds now. Always thought I was just a cat person. Till 2009 when my husband told me we were about to get a blue eyed baby. Been a husky mom ever since. We are thinking about doing a bus build out. My husband retired 3 years ago and would like to try. Ive been collecting things for a few years. I got some cedar for countertops. Made a trade with a girl who has 50 acres with cedar trees, and I have a sink. And fabric. Think my hubby will look this next spring for a short bus. Looking for the deal. I love vans though. I’ve had a van since the early 90’s. Vans are my favorite. Be carful out there! God bless you! Leslye

Such a cozy and warm space, and a great job of using what you already have and keeping it simple. I totally relate to Cindy's love of cats and her saying three is the sweet spot. Having traveled with two cats in a small vehicle, I can vouch for the fact that they are far more adaptable than we imagine. Allowing them to gradually adjust is the key. And, there is just something about these mysterious, magical creatures - one is never enough, it seems! Thank you, Cindy, for sharing your spirit! And Jan, great interview. I really appreciate your interview style, which allowed us to focus on Cindy, what she has to say and share. No distractions. Plus, editing out the questions keeps the video at a reasonable length, which shows respect for our time. Kudos! I look forward to more of these type of videos.

When you said that it's important to have Faith over fear, that's the primary reason why I choose camping permanently. Eventually hopefully a van or suv. I have to wait until I can afford one, though. I am on disability and going to school. One of my little sisters has enough fear for the whole family. I told her it's possible to get robbed, beat up, mamed or hurt in some way even in apartment or home life, too. Having Faith and using your own instinct when you camp full-time is the most important part of life and life skills at any age. We used to tell girl scouts just beginning to learn about camping that most people are good, but don't test boundaries and learn how to use your tools properly. This is still the most effective solution for a lot if things. Thank you for sharing your video and your speaking skills regarding full-time camping/Vanlife/RV life/Life on the road.

8/18/22: 🙏Hi Cindy, I also LOVE Cats, but cannot stand Cat Hair shedding, so I learned way back in 90's, put a Tablespoon of Olive Oil in their dry or wet food everyday, and in 1 month you will see no more shedding and their fur gets really Shiny and Healthy, plus it keeps their skin under that fur from drying out👏👍 May you and cats be comfortable. Cindy seems so familiar…did she used to be a dental hygienist? She reminds me so much of a women that I used to work with in the late 90s…if this isn’t her, she has a perfect doopleganger…lol. Very nice how she put in all the things she treasured from home, but kept things very simple. The older you get…the less you need, as far as material things,I have found. Happiness comes from family, friends and our relationships.

I like the van builds that are built using things found in thrift stores etc I think it shows everyone that you can do this without having to doing a major carpentry build. She has a very nice cozy home.

This is really inspiring as a solo woman with two cats. I would be working with a much smaller car than that van, but my babies will be on leads and harnesses during the day while I'm sitting out with them. And then we'll all sleep in the locked car at night. I figure if I add an SUV tent, there will be plenty of "sheltered" room, and they can also get safer enrichment outside without harassing wildlife. Rent is slowly sucking the soul out of my body and making it impossible to save, so I want to at least try this.

Love this lady. Her opinion on living without fear. She is totaly right. I live in a class C going on 3 years. Friends that live in sticks n bricks and in my age group of around 65. Think that I'm in danger for living like this. But i tell them this. If someone wants to get inside your home what can you do? Only choice is call the police. And get a weapon, that can be taken away from you and posibly used it on you. What i do if i see something outside that could be dangerous. I get on the drivers seat, never going outside. And drive off. Untill I feel safe again. Can you do that? End of their fear for me.

I’m shopping for my van now, and tho I understand it’s NOT gonna be heaven right here on Earth 😂😂😂😂 it’s gonna be different and I’m ready to be FREE!!! No more paying High Rent to live in apartments under LESS THAN desirable conditions, No more playing the Real Estate game to try to locate and purchase an Affordable and suitable property. NO MORE!!! She is correct. There are more good people in this world! Wisconsin has has a beautiful summer this year 2022 in terms of weather it’s been beautiful with low humidity!

This is awesome. I am planning a trip in October solo with my 4 dogs so it is nice hearing her story.

I just loved her beautiful spirit and her cats😊😊

She's created a very nice home with her kitties 🐱🐱🐱

I loved some of her ideas. I didn't catch the name or type of Garmin she has to reach people if she isn't where she has cell service

It is Garmin InReach. I have one for part time camping. There's a one time fee + monthly (connection) fee that you can cancel and reinstate back when you know you're out camping again. Please read or research on KZread University.

Hi Shelly. The Garmin InReach device itself is a little pricey. But $11 a month is worth it for the peace of mind of my “watchers” and for myself when I hike alone on a trail.

Just loved this interview, and I can relate to so much of what she's saying. It helps that we have a lot of fundamental things in common, so she is really speaking my language. I've saved this video to my YT library to I can refer back to it.

I'm so glad I came across your video! I am in the process of outfitting my minivan for camping with my ragdoll kitty. Keeping him cool is my number one concern/priority for summertime minivan adventures. I might also have to live out of my van someday as I'm disabled but haven't been approved for disability, so there's that. But one thing at a time.

Oh my goodness! Thank you SO much for Cindy! I have subscribed to her already! I have 3 cats and have been terrified to start my van life for fear of ‘What if?’ I’ve never seen anyone traveling small with 3 cats. Two, yes, but three? Thank goodness, here comes Cindy. I am a dog person, and they are now elderly, so won’t be a problem. The cats I’m trying to get them used to the van (VW Rialta). They are used to living in a 34’ RV, but that’s got to be sold. Too big, too much for me. But still I have been scared to once & for all head out. Cindy & I are the same age & she’s showing me to go for it! I surely will be following up with her. Love her design ideas too!!❤️

I'm glad she's living there life she wants to and that she's taking care of her cats. My only concern is 3 cats in that small of a space. If she's cleaning and vacuuming everyday, emptying the car litter frequently during the day, and airing out her van every day, then she's fine but if she's not, she could easily end up with respiratory issues. Because of the small size of her van, without adequate cleaning and ventilation, she's breathing in the same level of cat hair, dander, and poop as someone who's hoarding cats in a house.

Hi Serenity Jewel. 👋 Since I'm allergic to cats, I was pleased there was no cat odor and I did not have any allergic reaction after sitting there for about an hour. 🙂 I think that was a pretty good test. 👍

My friend has this van! It’s her family van but she takes her middle seats out and goes Van camping with me with her little kids when I take my granddaughter! I have a couple videos up about that! Really great build!! Love it ! 😃🙌🏼💯

Have been fulltime RVing 15 yrs with kitties and my doggies all in tow. Have camped all over the country including roadside rests and have never had any problems with people. Have broken down a few times but just have to handle it like you do anywhere. Have met several wonderfully helpful people at these times. I use the Good Sam roadside assistance because they include both my truck and the RV on the policy. Happy trails.

Fantastic idea with the wheels for your fridge.

Love this life you are living! I had a cabin in NM and it burned to the ground in May of this year. After I retired I spend all summer there up around 7100 feet so it is usually cool and peaceful. Hopefully my kids and I want to rebuild. I miss that quite slow life in the forest but Lord willing in a year or two I will be living the good life of quite peace!, Good luck and hope to see some more of your traveling !
