I know what it means to lose a wonderful husband and then suddenly be in financial straits. I’m glad she found an answer to her living situation and that she has such a great rig.

When she said she "didn't have enough life insurance" and she must not have had mortgage life insurance so the house was paid off, I felt sorry for her. My mother's first husband was murdered and she had no life insurance on him back in 1942, so she had a terrible time until she married my father whose wife had died from diabetes. She always told me to have Life Insurance, since you never know.

What an amazing video! Thank you so much for interviewing her, Bob. And thank you to everyone in the comments as well. I'm not as familiar with van-life, but it means so much to me that mom is able to share her passion and her story with you all. It's crazy to think about how she used to show me these videos when I was a kid. Now she's in one, and in her dream rig no less!! :D It hasn't been the easiest journey, but I'm so proud of how far she's come. ❤️

One of your biggest problems will be keeping your dogs cool. If you can find a spot to park that has electricity, you can mount a small window a/c and fix that problem, everything else will be easy peasy. A foam pad on top of a plywood topped frame that will give you a bed and storage. A high quality sleeping bag for winter. A high quality cooler and ice for product, eggs and etc. A bucket of some kind to use as a toilet. A camper stove, pots, pans and cooking utensils. You may get some ideas from another KZreadr. Watch Jonathan Yentch. He has a great setup in the back of a pickup.

Fantastic rig! Never seen one before. Glad she was able to find it and make the best out of a terrible situation. As she says (and Bob can see through his green eyes 😉) there’s nothing to want for with that set up. I’m sure there’s room to fit a small oven in if she picks one out for dimensions and mentions it to her carpenter. Maybe a half size lift up flap on that dining table would work - just enough for extra surface area but still able to get your legs past when it’s folded down. 👍🏻

I bake pies in an electric frying pan. I haven't tried using a large pot with a lid or a cast iron dutch oven on a electric stove burner or a gas stove burner, but I think the results will be quite good.

I think you should add Coach House as another manufacturer that makes a high quality, reliable rig. Seamless fiberglass shell on Ford or Mercedes chassis although I don't think they offer a four wheel drive option. I own a 2013, Platinum 261XL (27 ft., Ford V10) and can attest to its quality. Lived in it full time for six months while our house was built and only problem was a water leak where the cab joined the shell at the windshield. Easily sealed with RTV and hasn't leaked since.

Right!! 100% I’ve got a 2001 Chinook, and have been touring 6 months of the year for the last 16 years. Yes, clearance has been an issue 3, maybe 7 times, as I exclusively off-grid. So what? Twice now I have had to cut and replace the black & gray valves. The work takes an hour, and the parts cost about $35 . Why in the flying f would I spend $15k to $30k, or more, for FWD? I’m sure my mileage would suffer too. The most I am willing to consider is a 4 inch lift .. and maybe a suspension upgrade. Heck I still haven’t bothered to buy those traction boards that everyone who has 4x4 feels compelled to buy and strap on their roofs 😂😂😂 p.s. I just started full-time 8 months ago , and my only mod is doubling my solar. Other than solar my rig is 100% stock & original.

I looked at those and really like them. But I just couldn't get past the rear door. I either haul a motorcycle on the bumper or pull a trailer. Chinook did offer this same size model with a side door but they only made a few of them so they're extremely rare. I went with a Ford Transit cargo and had Quadvan convert to 4WD.
