Van Life tutorial: Easy screen room and rain fly for hatch backs. TailVeil installed by one person.

How to put up a TailVeil tent with only one person. So easy - no poles! It has room for two chairs and good size table. Very light weight.

I haven't tested it yet but I've heard that, in hot weather, if you spray the outside of the tent with water, the evaporation will significantly lower the temperature. If you're chilling in a breeze, this will work nicely. Lil something for after the winter. Love the vids! Bb

That looks really handy. I have a Napier Sports Cove, which turns the hatch into a tent door with screen, and provides an awning beyond the hatch to sit under, but it does not make the screen room that the Tail Veil makes. So, it's a different animal, really. The similarity is that it fits over the hatch.

Hi Jan, I am in Canada and also have this Tail Veil for my DGC . It is so very east to put up. I didn't like the plastic floor in hot weather, I found it too hot. Soooo, Not being able to find a carpet to fit properly I bought a Moving Blanket ( the type Movers wrap around furniture for protection. They come in different sizes, I got the 6' x 6' size. They are quilted and water resistant cotton. Reasonably priced, in Canadian funds in our Canadian Tire store mine was $24.95. This store is equivalent to Walmart minus produce. When not in use I just fold it up and it fits to sit on my passengers seat making an extra cushion. So sorry I don't have any pictures to show you. I am wondering what others use on the floor. Happy and safe travels. ❤❤❤

I have a Tail Veil and it is great. I love your idea of using a windshield shade to protect from the sun. I think that I have an earlier version because mine doesn't have the extra antibug flap - which is a great idea. I have a Nissan Rogue and the hatch is a bit small for the Tail Veil so it sags a trifle, but it does work very well.

  • @ButterflyTracks

Thank you for sharing this. I’m hoping to try and do some car camping in my Kia Soul. I’ve been looking at numerous KZread videos at the different suv tent and this is the first one I’ve seen that looks like it would be easy for me to do. I’m almost 72 so I’m not as agile or as strong as I once was. If I do this it’ll be later in the fall since our Texas heat has been so bad. Do you have a video showing how you have your sleeping area in your vehicle and how you set up your campsite outside? Thanks .

I have over a hundred videos with camper van tours of various types. Also travel videos with vanlife tips at the end. This one shows the storage in the hatch. kzread.info/dash/bejne/emZp1dVpg7mbe7w.htmlsi=7FDi_T-5vfFRufV3

Thank you so much for this, very informative. I bought something similar for my Honda Fit a few years ago but am yet to use it because I've read with some vehicles, leaving the hatchback up/open for long periods of time will run down the battery because, even though the interior light goes out, there are still some internal processes running. I was afraid of possibly ending up with a dead battery in the middle of the woods so I've put off using it. You haven't had that issue?

Anyone know if this would work over the tailgate of a small truck. I have a ford maverick with a Snugtop cap/camper shell. I need something to extend my sleeping space as it is so small that it’s very uncomfortable! Thanks!

Goodness, your doggies are so adorable...I just can't, lol. I'm still catching up on all your videos, so I am not sure if you've done solo boon-docking. Would you be comfortable using this in that situation? Or is this just something you can use when in a group/caravan setting? If I got this, I would have to disengage my hatch lights because they come on automatically. I'm sure there's a simple way of doing that, but I'm quite challenged with anything automotive. PS. I'm mesmerized by your beautiful blue eyes! (so jealous, lol) :D

Now that you've used this awhile, how does it hold up in the wind? Ivy found many times it's toooooo windy and dusty to cook off my Honda's tailgate, particularly in the desert.

  • @ButterflyTracks

It does hold up to wind if it's staked tightly.

Yes, I have removed it from the car driven off then backed up to it and draped it over the top again. Easy. I didn't have to fold it up, just left the stakes and all. ⁸

I don't know the size of the Kia hatch. I know some suvs can use it. If it's a lot smaller, the tent would sag.
