Eddie Van Halen's smile in this video is the most genuine I have ever seen on an adult. Reminds me of a 5 year old kid who was just told he is going to Disneyland. You can tell he's having tons of fun. RIP to an amazing musician who made the world a better place by being in it!

I'm thinking their Dutch/ European heritage brought a certain sophistication (Edward and Alex were both classically trained on piano and guitar respectively) along with their Father's jazz influence, that made Van Halen a cut above the rest. What think ye? Btw,have you ever heard Eddie speaking Dutch and if so, was he fluent? 😉👍

When this song comes on the radio unannounced, I know *exactly* what it is from the first chord on the keyboard - literally the first note - that synth sound is totally distinctive and makes that song what it is. Fantastic song that is absolutely the definition of 1980s hard rock. The fact that it still comes on commercial radio stations *37 years* after it was released tells you a lot. Thanks for reacting to it!

David Lee Roth the singer for Van Halen is the ultimate showman there has never been one like him in rock ‘n’ roll whatever he lacked in vocal ability he made up for the showmanship and Bravado. Van Halen without almost any early videos when videos meant everything sold millions of albums for every one of their albums certainly one of the top five greatest rock ‘n’ roll guitarist of all time is the innovator Of the harmonic and tapping on the guitar he did things on that first album that nobody had ever heard before and created sounds but nobody was able to emulate at the time. Definitely one of my favorite bands ever they’ve got too many great songs to list .for me pretty much everything off of the first album the second album third album on and on . Believe me it’s a rabbit hole that you may never get out of in a great way :-)

I met these guys around the time this was on MTV. :) The Van Halens were shopping in the mall and DLR hung out in the record store where I worked. I can tell you a couple things. First, he was very nice to a shy girl. Second, his trainer was the famous kickboxer, Benny the Jet. And Roth took his martial arts and fitness very, very seriously. There was a lot he could have bragged on, but mostly he told me about Benny and how hard he'd practiced doing a backbend so he could pick up a handkerchief from the floor behind him. (Look at the back of their first album.) A lot of people put him down, but he's a showman and he's dedicated to what he does.

The dj put this song on and my friends instantly starting getting people to step back and form a circle on the dance floor because they knew I was going full on Dave mode. Long story short, I jump up and landed the same split he did at the beginning on the video. Problem was the whiskey I was drinking told me I could do it, but my body said “oh no no no” and I tore the sh$t out of my hamstring. But I soldiered on and finished the song kicking with my opposite leg. Woke up the next morning with the back of my leg black and blue, good times lol!

There was conflict between Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth. Some say it was either David made a decision to go solo or Eddie fired him from the band.
