This song came out when I was in 7th grade. I was late for home room, (which was 2nd period for some reason) and the teacher asked me why I was tardy. This was my chance to shine. I was still in the doorway and, of course, I said "I don't feel tardy!" I was god of the school for that week. It was glorious.

You just made me smile, ear to ear!! My 15 minutes of high school fame came when, my teacher was chewing me and a couple of my friends out, sorta like the teacher in "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister, he was just an A$$ h01e. So, I was in a bad mood that day, and I stood up after he started in on my cousin who was REALLY backwards and shy. So, he starts in on my cousin, and I stood up and im like, "Ya know, that's a f'n 'nough!! You sit there and yell at us guys you had sat in the back of the class at the beginning of the year, and ignore us when we have questions about our homework, or class work, or whatever today's class is about! But, I noticed thar you sat all the pretty girls, cheerleaders, and flirts in the front! And when THEY have a question, you sure do POP UP from your desk and almost trip over your own feet trying to get over beside them! Just so you can look at their paper with them, while your so close to them your almost sitting on their lap!! And, ya know what, while I think what you do is a little bit nasty, I can at least understand WHY you want to help them! But, ya know, it would be a little less obvious if you at least acted like you were helping us every now and then. At that point, I don't know if he was red with embarrassment or red with anger, but, he jumped up and said, "if you don't like the way I do things, you can get the hell outta my class!" I looked at my buddies, looked at him, grabbed my backpack and headed out of the class and into the hallway! After I started walking down the hallway, I realized ALL THE GUYS from my class are walking right behind me!! The teacher screams, ALL OF YOU, TO THE OFFICE!! I was like, that's where I'm headed, to tell anyone who will listen, just how you treat the girls in class!! He RAN PAST ME to make damn sure he got to the principle BEFORE ME!!! He did, and the principle (who I had become good friends with, after several trips to the office that year, lol) asked me, "does he really do that?" I told him, do you think 8 of us would've walked out if we were lying? He said no. Anyways, it was the only class I ever failed. And that teacher was watched fairly closely the rest of his time there. After word got around of my big "Walk out" I was like James Dean for the next month!! It was freaking GREAT!! I have to admit!! I loved it. But, unfortunately, everything soon went back to normal, and my star burnout!! But, I sure did enjoy it while it lasted!!!

Interesting fact about how this video was made: The video was filmed in a real school somewhere in the LA area. The only way VH could get the proper permits to shoot the video was if the local child services was on the set to make sure that the model/stripper didn't inappropriately touch the young boys and to make sure the band didn't exposed the kids to drugs and alcohol. They did have that party reputation back then. Thanks for the REACTION Jamel_AKA_Jamal, VH is my #1 band!

Van Halen were and still are SAVAGE musicians. Edward and Al are from another planet, and that musical prowess, instinct and skill elevated Van Halen far above the bands of their day. In their prime, they had no peer. But, a huge part of the Van Halen "vibe" was the sense of humour in their live shows. That vaudevillian schtick that Dave really drove. Man, they were FUN unlike anybody else. You see it in this video. They didn't take themselves TOO seriously. I mean, they had midget ninja "security guards". Lol God bless the 80s!

Saw them live a few years ago and David Lee Roth is still dancing and doing the high kick from"Jump!" My fave band of all time!!!
I was born in the 50s, got to enjoy all the rock n roll decades.

Aaahhhh...the music of my teen years! Oh so many memories! Love big hair!
David Lee Roth is priceless.
Legendary band, legendary sound, legendary musicians... Legendary period.
I had a teacher in high school who embodied this song... anytime she was around, this song would cue up in the jukebox of my mind...
"I don't feel tardy" lmao
This was the party band in the 80s. They’re so funny they’re so fun.
Man you had me crying I was laughing so hard. Probably the best reaction video I have ever seen. And your commentary is spot on. Such an odd video from a fun decade but such a awesome song. Thanks so much for doing this! 🤣
"That's the teacher?.... Huh?..." I always just assumed that's how they roll in Pasadena. Lol
The 80's was the decade of fun! Hair bands were all the rage.
"I don't *feel* tardy..." - Best line
I always get visions of Spicoli when I listen to this song...especially the "I don't feel tardy" line... hopefully a few of you are old enough to get that reference... if not, look it up and WATCH THE MOVIE!!
Back in the early MTV days, this video made Van Halen into superstars...Hilarious and a wee bit naughty, we finally got to see just how awesome they were as musicians...Eddie Van Halen is a legendary guitarist, and singer Diamond Dave was such a lovable ham...Their album "1984" sold a zillion copies, and I feel is their signature album...RIP Eddie
Ah, back when music videos were epic!
"What school is this?" Believe it or not, it was filmed in the high school that Judge Lance Ito (of the O.J. Simpson trial) graduated from.
that into... that teacher... that shuffle into frame with a little dance number... van halen was, objectively speaking, THE GOOD SHIT.
Van Halen was such a kick ass band. They changed the face of rock in Hollywood!

That was actually my favorite song on "1984"....in 1984. I remember having the tape in the truck and that song cranked up in the pits at the (3-wheeler)race track listening to it between heat races while I changed sprockets on my ATC250R.
I brought my pencil - gimme something to write on, man...
REST IN PEACE, EDDIE! KEEP SMILING, BROTHER!
Being an awkward weirdo nerd in high school when this came out, I was unfortunate enough to be nicknamed Waldo, after this song. I played it off as funny tho. No other choice really.

Man I wish that I had a time machine I'd go back and live this time all over again because the 80s was the best time growing up and the music was killer too even to this day nothing can compare to this style of music and I still am blasting it all loud and singing along word for word...
Eddie passed away 10/6/20 I'm devastated...can't even look at my guitar!! He's the reason I stopped drumming and picked up the guitar in 1981😪💔🎸
Your spanish teacher might have been mean, but mine was SMOKIN! I'll never forget when she came in to class one day and announced she was getting married. Every guy in the class gave out a "awwww!".... Like any of us had a chance! haha!

Normally, when a song gets played too much I get sick of it and can't listen to it anymore, ever. HFT though is an exception. Every time it comes on, I turn it up. Also, this is one of my favorite solos from Eddie. The phrasing and technique he uses is top notch.

When I was about 10 I saw that video and specially the moment I saw Eddie's solo in the library was my realization that rock and roll is cool. Been a bass player about 30 years
Van Halen were and still are SAVAGE musicians.
I just love the pure unadulterated fun of this. Nothing deep, just fun 😁
