Vajra Sky Over Tibet | Journey Into Buddhism FULL SPECIAL | PBS America

Ойын-сауық

From PBS, this stunning pilgrimage, “beautifully shot in Tibet’s most sacred sites” as described by Variety, received the blessing of the Dalai Lama and bears witness to the indomitable faith of the Tibetan Buddhist community and the imminent threat to its very survival. Traveling through breathtaking Himalayan terrain, this is the third film in John Bush’s Yatra Trilogy. #documentary #buddhism #religion #asia #tibet
Called “eye-opening and essential if you have an interest in Eastern spirituality” by the Boston Globe and an “illuminating meditation” by Variety, these visually stunning documentaries are cinematic pilgrimages to legendary places in Southeast Asia and Tibet, including the spiritual wonders of Laos, Thailand, Burma, Bali, Cambodia, Java and Central Tibet.

Think of how powerful Buddhism must be when a nation of billions with an army and navy sees a peaceful group of monks teaching kindness, as a threat. I bet u could visit every country and religion but this one would stick with u a lifetime

Would be nice, but the Chinese simply clubbed them down. Buddhism also adapted self-defense; why? Because the example of people who work on their own character, striving for enlightenment, often stirs up the aggression of others who connect their suffering with being evil. It is because they believe that doing violence to others will bring them relief, not knowing it makes things worse. This is why the techniques of liberation have been kept secret. This is why meditation was given to chosen disciples who first of all were trained in compassion, patience, and resilience. The masters took care of them.

China doesn’t see it as a threat, just so that they can lord over it for territory gains. People are misled by propaganda, on both sides. The original Tibetan leaders are no better themselves. It’s a medieval feudalism before communism took over, with abject poverty.

So I guess what Im saying is, it seems to me the whole world turned their back when Tibet was invaded. They simply forgot Tibet even existed❗

From the award winning book, A History of Modern tibet,1913-1951:The Demise of the Lamaist state by Professor Melvyn Goldenstein, "Serfdom was the foundation of the manorial estate system and for the political and monastic system. It was an efficient system of economic exploitation that guaranteed to the country's religious and secular elites a permanent and secure labor force to cultivate their land holdings without burdening them either with any direct day-to-day responsibility for the serfs' subsistence or with the need to compete for labor in a market context."

That's a pretty judgemental statement, (Presumed) Westerner. I don't think even the Dalai Lama defends the former system, which did, indeed, exploit the labor of ordinary, faithful Tibetans. Simply attributing any critique of earlier periods of Tibetan history to the 'Western Mind', is black-and-white thinking, IMHO. The fact that the Chinese system was worse doesn't make the earlier system flawless. Two wrongs don't make a right. The Chinese are, at this very moment, exterminating the culture of the Muslim Uighurs in a similarly-brutal manner. Few are calling attention to this. Possibly since those people are Muslims and viewed as less deserving of human rights. Possibly because there's no money to be made on tourism the same way there is with Tibetan Buddhism.

Thank you . May all spiritual practices and their true meanings beyond the rituals be shown and exposed to all sentient beings in the world with eye- and heart opening documentaries like this. Once you gain understanding and compassion towards another culture or spiritual practice your own Heartwisdom will see beyond Form and Time. Love Light and Peace inevitably follows... This is what I wish for all sentient beings everywhere and everywhen Be Blessed :)

Every tribe around the world has been blessed and also survived the many abuses of those who take over their lands dividing everyone and forced to flee for survival. Great reminder of my Tibet temple tour pilgrimage with a Vajra scholar - Michael Saso. We visited for the two weeks of the Buddha's birthday celebration in May. Saw Chomolungma from the Ronbuk Monastery. Much kora and prayer wheel spinning. Sat in on chanting sessions. Saw all in the video, and much more. Both a pilgrim and a visitor.

What is happening 8n Tibet is very similar to what is happening to American Natives. The struggle to maintain a spiritual culture in every area is real. Americans can not look at China as evil and cruel when the annihilation of buffalo and the origional people here is just as heartbreakingly horrible. My heart feals the suffering and struggle for hope.
