From PBS, PRAJNA EARTH explores the lost civilization of Angkor in Cambodia, the magnificent Angkor Wat temple and Bali’s sacred landscapes. Narrated by Sharon Stone, the trilogy's second film also shares trance dancers in the jungles of Java and the gigantic seven level mandala mountain of Borobudur and is described as “inducing an inner journey” by Asia Society, New York. #documentary #buddhism #asia #religion

I was raised Christian, and my father was a pastor. I myself am ordained minister. I now have left Christian theology. I have been a Buddhist since 2004. Changed my life. I see how to many pastors in this time have lost their way. It makes me sick these television pastors steal people's money in the name God. How many of them preach hate toward other people. How many houses and private jets do they need. Can you say GRIFT in the name of God.

Bali, despite the many tourists trampling all over that lovely island, is and remains a jewel thanks to the appreciation, respect and spiritual beliefs preserved by its beautiful people throughout the centuries. Thank you for this gift.

This is great thank you. I would like to throw up a couple of questions, I think it was stated that Theravada came to Cambodia in the 15th century, well it was much earlier. The region became predominantly Theravadin in the 15th century. Theravadin was around when Angkor was built, which you referred to as Mahayana and Hindu at the same time, I thought it was built as Hindu-Brahmin and later when Jayavarman converted changed it to Mahayana. I thought it soon became Theravadin too but I could be wrong.

The language in teachings are symbolic poiters, as the transcendence is personal, beyond words, thoughts, feelings, even consciousness. It is an understanding into the illusory, impermanent nature of sense experience, complicated by the attachment to a sense of self, an aggregate of five skandhas, form, feeling, perception, mental proliferation and consciousness. This sense of permanance drive beings hither thither, endlessly till they stop by penetrative understanding, into the nature of conditioed existance, bhava, driven by desire into being, non being, delusion. Programmes such as these are necessary for the lessening of human greed today and the destruction that ot will cause to all beings and the planet.

It should be remembered that Gautama Buddha was an incarnation of the God Vishnu, as was Lord Rama and Bhagavan Krishna. So, on the celestial level, there is no real distinction as they are all avatars of the Divine. The motto of the United States is 'e pluribus unum' and this applies quite nicely to the Eastern concept of worship: the many names of God are nevertheless One God.

@@LUIS-ox1bv Nice reply. They think they are the cleverest, smartest on earth. Yup, very highly advanced Indian heritage, we can see that now. Basic hygiene comes to my mind now! What is India, in the first place, it is a Union of Independent nations, served on a platter to the natives of the Subcontinent. How did the Brits got it as 'one' place, from the Muslim Mughals. And how did the Mughals got it, from Muslim Delhi Sultanate. They (Muslims) both ran many independent nations/kingdoms under one authority for more than 800 years!!! Brits annexed the unique and ever resisted Dravida south to make the whole place the Jewel in the Crown of the Brit Empire. Who are these ancient advanced people of the north of the Subcontinent, Aryans who migrated to this area with their language, culture, tradition, wisdom, and rituals. Sanskrit evolved form proto-European languages, unlike the Dravida which is unique. There were Hellenic kingdoms in the Subcontinent way before the common era. That is the very short history. I can go on for hours... Chinese do not have this much super ego. They are well aware of their OWN great ancient civilisation to wars, famines, tragedies, fragmentation of their state, foreign rule, western semi occupation, and the list goes on. They know their good, bad and the ugly. Even the evil communist party knows how many millions still starve in China. If not for Muslim and British occupiers, the Subcontinent would have been many independent nations / kingdoms to this day, not even a union. But history is history even few tries to twist historical facts.

@@thetruthseeker5448 The fact that you know your history, is most definitely beyond denial. The point of basic hygiene is an important one, due to India's well known reputation as being one of the most unsanitary, and unhygenic countries on the planet. What is the point of boasting about the advanced water treatment systems of the Indus valley civilizations, such as Mohenjo-daro and Harappa, when present day Indians routinely defecate in the fields. When their sacred cows resort to foraging in refuse dumps. When sanitation jobs, like removing human excrement from streets or cleaning drainages, are left to the lowest most discriminated caste members in Indian society; the Dalits. When people bathe in the sacred Ganges, never minding the human waste or the ashes of the deceased burned in the ghat of Varanasi. I recall a friend of mine who spent six months in India and displayed photos of a quality fit for National Geographic. He ably captured the culture shock a traveller to India is confronted with, when one ventures beyond the usual tourist attractions and photo lures. Not sure why there's so much of a focus on Bali in this episode when the documentary is supposed to be about Buddhism. Buddhism may have influenced some of Bali's aesthetic architecture, but their religion is distinctly Hindu. It would have been more interesting how BUDDHISM exists in other places in Southeast Asia, maybe in Sri Lanka or Vietnam?

If I may...the word Devata is pronounced Day-va-tha..and not Devaata! It refers to a heavenly being in the Hindu tradition, god or goddess. Buddhists do not believe in such beings but Buddhism became intertwined with Hindu beliefs, hence Dévathas! And oh, Prajnaparamita means the perfection of wisdom, and the Prajnaparamita Devi is the mother Goddess who represents or radiates such. Prajna-paaraa-mitha is the pronunciation...

These beings will inhabit a realm that is compatible with their development but they are no saviours of others, as one can save another.

The message of Buddha is way beyond all these symbols, whether Buddha statues or any other, just another form, to be used wisely, to bring mind to observe. It is a deep form of psychology, unveiled through vipassana practice embedded in spiritual development and purification of sense training, so the burden of senses pull is lessened. All these symbols are not what he pointed out, but the way the world is. The statues were created much later,. His teaching was to observe the heart, and body here and now, to understand the self creation and suffering through becoming, rather than understanding the impersonal cause and effect nature of being, always after the fact, due to sense delay, pamada. Getting caught in forms is delusion, not his teaching.

The truth definition of Buddhism must based on Sanskrit, an ancient basic of all language on earth. ''Buddhi'' in Sanskrit mean intellect. Intellect mean degre or ''level'' This level should not be quoted without obtain or infringement by degre of meditation.. As modern's system of education degre : primary, secondary, college, university etc...In this reporter, the narrator and the reporter themself did not understand the existings of the construction of Angkor Wat (Ankora Wata) versus earth and those livings around. Ankora Wata was built around at least 20 0000 years before with precision of Vedic of Science wich is an aligment of Galatic of solar system in our Galaxie. (reference of documents written by non spiritual knowledges is useless). Kambhuja (Cambodia) was Brahmanism. The statue was performed in honour to Godhead of Krsna, Ishwara, Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma and all of deity. The film maker was uncapable to distinguish fakes belivers are transporting a fakes statues of buddhas implemented to the wrong place wich was not their original.(Paveen Mohan reseacher of ancient sciences.) It's has nothing to do between Angkor Wat and Budhhism.

None of the goddesses that the video seems obsessed with are Buddhist. The video starts with Buddhism and ends with Buddhism with a journey through Hinduism and Animism in between.

While I understand the human desire/curiosity to 'save' these temples from being subsumed by the trees, does the very fact that the trees are overtaking the temples speak to the Buddhist foundational principle that nothing is permanent or inherently arising?? If you let the temples 'go' and return to nature, are you not being more truthful to the Buddha's wisdom of impermanence?? Geez, talk about a koan...
