I don't think Mark Henry or Lesnar could have caught Vader in that type of scenario. Like Taker said, he'd do way more damage to himself trying to protect him. Also like the interviewer said, Vader falls on his head. Idk how Vader thought that was even possible unless he was asking all that as a rib.

Vader in WWF was such a missed opportunity. I get it if Shawn didn't want to work with him but he would have made a great heel champion to drop it later to a babyface. Problem was Shawn had Vince's ear and injuries were starting to creep up. But WWF pushing Vader full force...amazing what could have been.

I think the title change from HBK to Sid back to HBK between Sur Ser 96 and Royal Rumble 1997 was originally meant for Vader, the December 96 PPV was even named after Vader. But Shawn buried him to management and they went with Sid instead.

I think the final nail for Vader in WWF was that incident in when he attacked that talk show host for asking if wrestling was fake. Leon didn't take it too kindly and ended up in a little legal trouble for that. Vince probably didn't like the bad press that brought in for the company.

The only modification I could see working for that finish is if Taker sat up and then hit the ropes before Vader jumped, causing him to drop onto the turnbuckle and then hang backwards off of it. On paper, it shouldn't have worked because of their styles but they had great in ring chemistry. I rewatched 'Taker-Vader Rumble '97 not long ago, still enjoyed it. 'Taker did a kind of guillotine legdrop when Vader went down for the backdrop, a move I only remember seeing him do on Vader. 'Taker also did the powerslam counter to Vader's dive off the top rope, which looked pretty cool, I think Vader had been doing that counter since WCW. If you remember, Vader won that match with the Vader bomb (I think Paul Bearer, then managing Vader, hit 'Taker with the urn first), it was still pretty rare for 'Taker to get beaten and Vader really needed a big win, having lost so much through '96. The Final Four match was good too, I guess 'Taker got his revenge, eliminating Vader, though Vader looked strong in that match too.

Vader vs Taker should have been saved for the Wrestlemania 13 main event. It was a dream match at the time & the WWF didn't do much at all to promote that.

Everything that I have heard Taker say sounds exactly like something Bruce Prichard has said. This makes me feel like Bruce really is honest.

I mean, even if it was a sit up and Vader missing, that would have been a bad idea, but it does sound like something I would have loved to see!

That’s a brilliant spot…if your opponent is Superman. Vader was never afraid to make his opponent look like a million bucks but that idea was a little too ambitious 😂

Every WWF locker room story about Vader that I've ever heard was about him being bullied.
