I use painters tape to label and date my vacuum sealed jars. That prevents any sticky residue.
I bought the break bleeder to use with vacuum sealer tops. Rain Country shows you how to use it. No power no problem.

Marshmallows done this way are so fascinating. They expand under suction then shrink when opened. Cool parlor trick to show the kids.
I use my quart jars for dehydrated apple slices , pancake mix, cookies, candies and crackers. I need to find the 1/2 gal for the crackers so I can fit more in the jars. I even dehydrated store bought sliced sweet breads! Opened a jar from 1 year ago and it tasted good. Didn't have stale taste was good with coffee! Thank you Leisa!
Just a quick FYI, the “white” stuff that you find older chocolate chips isn’t a powdery substance. It’s actually the fats in the chocolate that congeal over time and with temperature fluctuation; it doesn’t chance the flavor or the quality of your end product, per se, occurring more frequently with finer chocolates. It has become less of a problem for me, however, due to having four of my grandchildren living with us. Not much lasts long enough to develop any problems, however I do vacuum seal flours, cornstarch, sugars, grains, etc. Keep up the good work, Leisa, your videos are a constant source of good information for all of us!! ❤❤
Watching this makes me remember that I think I have some Raisin Bran vacuum sealed in my pantry-and now I want a bowl! Lol
We LOVE our hand-held sealer! Bought some bags and store our cheese in them. Then wash the bags and reuse. A jar lifter is a great bag-drying stand.

I been watching your videos for a long time and learned a lot .. thanks my friend 🥰 Blessing 👩🌾
I use my lids I've previously used in canning. Good way to have them do double duty. I also vacuum seal the same lid many times.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THE LINK!!!! I was finally able to get a set of jar attachments! I've only been searching for a year....lol
I vacuum seal cookies and have had them last over 8 years, I also do Frosted Flakes, corn pops, corn flakes that have been good after 8 years, my nuts have lasted about 5 to 6 years, I had forgot I had to jars left of nuts and they were like 6 years and they were fine, I will even do my flour and sugar
Thank you for mentioning the lid vacuum sealers were in stock. Finally was able to get an order placed!
Yes- chocolate chips with a white coating are fine to eat - the cocoa butter in the chocolate comes to the surface primarily due to getting warm and then coming back to room temperature causes the white coating. But certainly sealing in a jar and keeping in cool place will let them stay fresh longer. Peanut butter chips can definitely lose flavor if they are not kept in an oxygen free environment. Love the big jars. Thanks!

It is truly perfect for these kinds of jobs.
One.of the things on my list to get. I would like to get a small one like that. My list keeps getting ever so bigger and bigger the more I learn. Just starting into this whole prepping stage. Pressure canner, dehydrator, and one of those!
When I had my old food sealer and when I used my small mouth lids I had a difficult time getting the smallmouth to seal. I tried to put 2 lids in and it worked for the sealing, only the one next to the jar sealed but it seemed to need the extra lid to get the correct space to cause it to seal.
Yup, i keep the boxes too😉😊😎
Thank you for the idea to use the vacuumed lids and are still good for pressure canning. Makes sense.
I finally got the jar sealer and cant wait to try it. I love watching your videos
I swear I always learn something from you. Thank you. Always so informative.
I agree When I use new lids for dehydrating I reuse them for canning. Happy to hear someone else does this.
Thank you! Now I feel comfortable doing this!!
Thank you so much for this video, I had bought a case of the potatoes a while back and was wondering the best way to store!!! Please don’t stop these kind of videos EVER!

Just got my Foodsaver attachments this week from Amazon. Was so shocked to see them in stock. Been looking a long time.
That hand held vacuum sealer looks convenient; I always use a brake bleeder for the jars to save on our vacuum sealer keeping it just for bags.
Okay my lady, I just bought a handheld freshsaver @ Amazon. I will try dry beans, oatmeal, etc. Thank you for your video. You are an inspiration!

This is how I vaccum seal dry goods. I purchased the small unit last year and it works well for me!
Thank you for making a dry storage video, Leisa! You have impeccable timing as always. So many people need to see this good instruction and you shared good tips. It is a reminder for me to go through my working pantry and re-do the seals I've broken in the last month cooking from my dried foods. And especially thank you for showing the process when you have to try again to get a seal. Makes me feel less of a dunce for having a struggle with some jars. Something funny...I vac sealed the cheap version of bagged cereal that was completely sugary, colored junk as a treat for hubby. Was too lazy to take the 'mushrooms' label off the jar from its previous use and that sucker is still sitting front and center in the pantry untouched. LOL!

LOL my cat heard the vacuum sealer and came running. OMG she's meowing thinking I have hidden treats. She knows we keep snacks in the jars. I have to keep 4 to 6 of those hashbrowns on hand at all times, because our daughter eats them for breakfasts. I love my half gallon jars for storage. I got chalkboard labels for our dry storage jars.

I use half gallons for my dry storage it’s awesome. It’s good to know about nuts.
I learned the trick to prevent your sealer from pulling off the lid. Use two lids, the bottom one will seal and other sort of stays in the sealer. Don't ask me why but it works. Happy sealing. 😊
I am so excited about this!!

New to long term food preservation. On a budget. Started dehydrating. Corn was easy peasy. But I thought of reusing the bag and vacuseal. But...there's tiny holes in the frozen packaging. Blah. So I found a sturdy reusable cheese ziplock package. The plastic is strong. See*through & u can use the heat seal on it. Thx. For the great start.👌👍😉
If you shake the jars you can fit more in them. Its amazing how shaking it around makes things fall into place I have 15 pounds of egg noodles I just opened and this is going to be my project pantry for the week, Putting my pasta in jars.
I have both the food saver vacuum sealer, and the newer hand held sealer, which I usually use with the zipper lock bags they sell, but I've used it to seal their canisters too. I have my "counter top vacuum sealer on a table in my front room, where I've got the space to keep it, and to work, especially when filling, and sealing dry storage jars. I have a smaller, "L" shaped kitchen, with really not enough counter space to keep everything I need out on the counter top. LOL, my dehydrator sits on the bar that divides my kitchen and dining room areas.
Oh my goodness, thank u so much, for I learned so much. All this is new to me. Thank u. 🙏❤️🌷☘️👍👏

Hi Leisa, great idea to vacuum seal the cereal and potato hash browns. Fantastic idea for all of us with that handy vacuum sealer. Sometimes even if the ingredient is safely stored , time eventually will make it taste stale. So you have anther reason to preserve your product. Good job!❤️❤️👍👍👍👍

Thank you. This video is quite helpful.
Under good storage conditions, my vacuum sealed dried items (including cereal) have lasted years with no noticeable change in quality. I just went and opened some rice krispies and corn flakes sealed in 2013 and they are perfect. The chocolate chips crackers and nuts surprised me, too! My nuts did not go rancid!! To do powders, you can bag them and loosely seal the bag and put it inside your jar so the vacuum works but doesn't pull the powder out into the device. You can also put a coffee filter or muffin liner on top of the powder to prevent this as well, as powder can ruin the motor. I use lids that I've already canned with. Alana Stewart's comment below is right on, using two lids is sometimes what I need to do to get the bottom one to seal. Sometimes heating the lid a bit on a heating pad helps them vacuum seal, too, if all else fails.
Just ordered the jar attachments, thank you.

Snagged my vacuum sealer adapter today! Thank you for the link. I didn’t want to pay $40+ for it
Dry canning is the one time I will save and reuse my button top lids. I'll sort thru them, soak them in hot water for a bit then let dry throughly. I mark the tops indicating dry can only. Been working great for years!!
I dehydrated tater tots last fall and sealed them as an experiment. I discovered the big name brand was actually oily to touch and very salty. But I loved the taste of the GV WM brand. And when cool and dry they are crunchy and almost as addicting as potato chips. I haven't tried a casserole with rehydrated ones yet, but will always be able to munch on a few.
The oils in the chocolate come to the surface of it. Nothing is wrong with the chocolate chips. I used to be a baker that took a course on making chocolate candy.
Great video. TY so much for doing this...

I got my Food Saver at a thrift store for $10 and so far it works fine. And today I found some of the bags at the same thrift store. New never opened box. So I save about $15 on the bags. I’m really enjoying sealing up stuff for an emergency.
I’m new to the whole food storage processes. I have stored dry goods in 1/2 gallon jars and put stick on labels on the jars. In addition to the storage date; I also list the factory Best Buy date.
I have seen other channels say you can write on the lids with Sharpie and then use rubbing alcohol to remove the writing. I am thinking I will be refilling my jars with the same foods so I would only need to change the date. Just a thought...

When I do mine, I use a piece of tan colored duct tape to label my jars. I put the packaged date: the best by date:and my own use by date. It’s worked out really well for me. Plus when someone else grabs a jar they’re like “oh, this is good for another 3 years. Cool!”
