@@debbielee93 I have seen the lids at Walmart in my area. You can also order online for oickup at the store, just make sure to add no substitutions before checking out, and after ordering the last item. Otherwise you might not get what you asked for exactly. Sometimes you get lucky at thrift stores. I have also seen a video where folks were saying they reuse the lids, when canning regular wet foods. They said they never had a problem. I would suggest reusing lids to pickle vegetables, because both salt and vinegar help preserve as well. Dry pack canning obviously you can. No limits on reusing, as no heat is involved in the process.

For those that aren't aware, the green top from Kraft Parmesan Cheese fits the regular mouth jar! It is great as a dispenser for nuts, M&Ms, etc. The side of the top that has the three holes, works great for a straw! The store brands of the cheese also fit and often have different colors like red or black!

I just vaccum sealed 22 lbs of flour and what I did was to put approximately 9 cups of flour or 3.5 lbs into a brown paper lunch bag. slightly tap the bag a few times to settle it then fold down the excess bag only once and tape it with just a small piece then slipped it into my sealing bag then vaccum sealed it up. One of my best purchases EVER was a Food Saver at a Thrift Store for $5. I figured if it didn’t work I wasn’t out much but it was kinda life changing. I use my used canning lids and some antique blue half gallon jars I inherited from my mama. Great for bulk food crackers and snacks from my Amish market, my brown sugar and it also makes it very economical to buy the entire cart full of Oreos marked down to $1 at Big Lots - they will last for YEARS. 😊 Great video.

Here's how you have to do it: Order from the Walmart app for curbside pickup! They pack up the orders in the middle of the night, so we get first come, first serve from the warehouse shipments! July, 2022 - I just found vacuum seal canisters from a small Kansas company that makes chamber vacs. Three sizes for $39.99. The tallest will hold a quart mason jar inside it and seal it with a hose that fits other vacuum machines as well as their own. It will seal the jars that we normally throw away, too. The canisters are a vac chamber themselves so will save my canning jars for canning and I can use commercial jars for dehydrated food, leftovers, and lunchbox food for Hubs. Made by Avid Armor.

I used oxygen removers in the jars with butter cookies and ritz crackers. That plus the dry vacuum seal worked really well. When we opened a jar and needed to close it back up with unused product we just put a lid and ring on it, finger tight. The oxygen eliminators actually pulled a seal! I bought mine from Harvest Right (the same folks that manufacture the freeze dryers) they are called Oxygen Absorbers and they look like the packets that you see in other products but they are specifically for food preservation. Originally I put these in my dried beans jars to kill any kritters that might be hiding in there. They worked really well.

Another tip for when you are using two narrow mouth lids in the vacuum sealer. In the one that stays in the attachment, put a small hole in the middle of it. That way, if you get mega vacuum, you won't have to pry the lids apart. The one on top will release, but will help greatly to make your seal! I HAVE those jars! I put strawberry jam in them because they are so beautiful! I also do this for Chinese noodles for chow mein. Works great. Shalom and Blessings from Missouri.

Just make sure you don’t use oxygen absorbers with more than 10% moisture foods. Can be very dangerous.

I have read some tips to make sure the jars stayed sealed. One person put the lids on a heat pad to soften the rubber and another wiped the blue seal with a damp cloth. I think the last tip was just to make sure the blue seal doesn't have any bits to allow an air leak. Just make sure the damp rag doesn't come in contact with the jar or product.

I use my Weston vacuum sealer with the tubing that has a fitting on each end. One end plugs into the sealing cap, the other end fits into the Weston unit. Does a great job. I have to put powdered foods into a non-ziplock bag, then lightly twist the bag and lay the twist down before I put the cap on to seal if I don’t powder gets sucked up, makes a mess and prevents a seal. I also find that if I warm the lids, whether by hot water or oven, then dry them the lids stay sealed better and longer.

On one of the other videos that I saw they said when you're taking that vacuum sealer thing off to kind of take it off at an angle in other words just pull up one side first and it comes off a lot easier

I’ve had 2 of the handhelds but did not last very long. I had to send them back. I’m now using a hand brake bleeder at 15 to 17 of pressure. Works great. I have rice , dried beans, raisins nuts nacho chips , chocolate chips. Brown and white sugar, oat meal, granola , crackers, pretzels Using up my mason jars since I no longer can. Keeps food away from mice as well as keep them fresh for years. And I don’t waste as much food. If you have cereal for grandkids it great way to keep it fresh I store flour in freezer. Mice can chew through plastic tubs

I have $160 pink velvet blackout drapes in my pantry because it's one of my spare bedrooms and those curtains were meant for my living room and they looked awful! So, I had my caregiver nail them up in the pantry and I've turned the heat off in that room and if I had to I would keep the door shut and crack the window but right now we're in the negative numbers for temperature so there isn't any place in my house that isn't cold except the bathroom!

Actually we reuse the foodsaver vac bags often, depending on what was stored in them. They just continually get shorter as the ends are trimmed off to open the bags used for dry goods like rice, beans, flour (in paper 'lunchbags' to keep the dust under control) etc. I think you could load your saltines quicker with less 'adjusting' if you just opened the end of the sleeve and put that into the jar, then pull off the sleeve, leaving a neat stack in the jar, then fill in the rest of the space as you were doing.

I did the dehydrated marshmallows around Christmas time after seeing Purposeful Pantry's video on it. It sealed them really well. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to keep my son out of them lol. I also vacuum sealed refrigerator overnight oats and it kept them good for at least 2 weeks. It's a great gadget if you remember to use it! I have a tendency to use something for a bit then it gets put away for a year or 2.

Try Ace Hardware and Tractor Supply for jars, lids, etc. I got some half gallon ones at Ace last week. The only thing they were out of were regular mouth lids. I'm going to go back and see if they have a gasket that is compatible with my canner, which is no longer made (Kirby and Allen).

For dry goods like this, I punch a small hole in the top of the lid and put a piece of scotch tape over it. When you want to open the jar, just pull up the tape to unseal. To reseal, just push the tape back over the hole and vacuum again. Lets you use the same lid over and over.
