I have done that when all the kids were still home, 7 kids. If the milk was made the night before and mixed with usually 2% milk, it was cold in the morning and no one ever knew. Even I would drink it. Same goes for just plain old p. Milk. Make it and refrigerate so it is cold! Makes it better every time.

I bought two bags of Great Value Non-Fat Powdered Milk a couple of years ago. I never used them and they passed the Use By date 13 months ago. After watching this video, I decided to be brave. I opened one of the old bags and made a gallon. Then I stuck it in the fridge for an hour. Then I took it out and added 1/3rd Cup of sugar and 3/4 Tablespoon of Vanilla Extract. Stirred it up and sampled a spoonful. It is absolutely DELICIOUS!! It tastes exactly like melted vanilla ice cream. So, the next time I make a gallon of it I will only use 1/4 Cup of sugar and the 1/2 Tablespoon of vanilla extract.

Great info. Thank you. I don't drink milk so I do buy powdered milk to cook with. I put a small quantity in a paper lunch sack. Fold top over once. Put in vacuum seal bags and seal up. Keep in storage in my basement. This way I can repackage it into very small quantities that are usable for me. The brown paper bag keeps it a bit darker and keeps my vacuum sealer from sucking up powder. I have been doing this with powdered milk and flour for years. Works very well.

Powdered milk mixed and refrigerated overnite was what was served in our household when I grew up in the 60’s. It was a thing, for some reason, even though my parents grew up on farms 😉 But so was instant tea, coffee, koolaid, margarine and lots of other not healthy things!

I used to freeze canned milk in ice cube trays and add a cube to the powdered milk and that helped the taste. My sister freeze dried a can for me so I can add a bit of it to the powdered milk. Vanilla helps and cocoa mix is good. My mother in law mixed whole milk and powdered milk so it was less expensive and it really didn't taste bad when it was cold. She had 5 boys so needed to cut corners as much as possible,

I have 2 kinds of powdered milk, the nonfat instant milk that is Walmart brand, and Nido which is whole milk powder. The nonfat instant milk is more granular and I have found that running it through my Ninja Storm pulverizes it to a more powdery form and it's way easier to reconstitute. I don't buy it to drink but use it in pancake mix, cream of soup mixes, gravy mixes, etc. I have also used the nonfat version several years after the best buy date and there was no issues.

My panty is cool and it stores well. I use a dark material that right now has cows on it My mother for awhile would buy a gallon of milk - pour 1/2 into another clean empty gallon container, then mix up 1 gallon of powered milk and put 1/2 in with the 1/2 of regular milk. We never knew till she got caught mixing it up. We never noticed a difference. Just saw 2 jugs of milk in the fridge.

We would put chocolate or strawberry Quik or Ovaltine when we drank it. I used it to make tapioca pudding . Takes 2 cups so I make one whole milk and one powdered milk. I am a milk drinker at 69 . Make whole milk from powdered milk. I pressure can butter some of which is unsalted. Mix your powdered milk and take a portion and warm it. Add unsalted butter to taste and blend til the butter is suspended in the warm milk. Then add the buttered milk back to the rest of your powdered milk mix and cool. Note if too much butter has been used some will condense out as butter flecks. Good way to have whole milk on the shelf. Another option is Nestle Nido, but my experience is with only using for a few years.

I have mylar for the milk and flour. Things I keep in quart jars I store in the banker's boxes I buy at Walmart. They hold 12 quarts and you can stack 350 pounds in a stack of boxes. I cover the boxes with pretty contact paper so I can store them in a stack in the bedroom and they still look nice and the boxes keep out the light.

I agree in that the Thrive Life milk is great. Besides tasting really good, it's already sealed in cans for the long term. Just one of their many great items for long term storage or everyday use. 👍

All good info Leisa. I use powdered milk for all my cooking and baking needs. I've switched to unsweetened almond milk for drinking. I never buy regular milk anymore! I've learned how to make my own almond milk if I had to.

I have a few cases of powdered nonfat milk from the Mormon store. It's all prepackaged in mylar and good for 20 years. I've tried it cold and it really tasted great.

I don’t mind it so much just from bag n made up but I did mix it with regular milk to stretch it for kiddos 👶 n us. If needed to 😊 I’ve got some stored up so glad I did before all this crazy time. Price has jumped up very high. GODBLESS sweetie

Add a bit of vanilla instant pudding powder to the powdered fat free milk just before drinking a serving to thicken and sweeten it up. You don't want to store whole milk powder for long term because the fat in the whole milk powder makes it go rancid much ealier than 20 years.

As a stage 4 cancer survivor (healed naturally) I don't drink milk. I use milk to make up handy mixes such as pancake, biscuit, Alfredo sauce, etc. Works great. I use powdered milk, sprouted flour, powdered butter (oil) and egg powder. All I have to add is water.

Absolutely correct advice! I won’t drink milk period. Need it for recipies, or for coffee, even ranch dressing mix...a need to have on the shelf! Not bad for hot chocolate either. Or making oatmeal to add calories, etc. keep the info coming Leisa...you are on a roll!

My grandmother ALWAYS had powdered milk, and I always thought it tasted ok. Now that I'm... older (50!), I am trying to make it a priority to have powdered milk put away in my long term pantry. I can drink it as it is when mixed, but I'm really liking the idea of the sweetener and a little vanilla! I have some smaller packets of powdered milk that I bought in order to make some pancake mix, but I think tonight I'll use a packet to "dr it up" and try it! Thanks so much for the helpful ideas!

The taste of powdered milk never troubled that much, but good to know how to make it better. Somehow I knew your method was going to involve vanilla extract!

I was given dark, knit and ducking material. It sat on my shelf forever. I took it down and cut it to fit my jars and wrapped them up and put a rubber band on the neck of the jar, around the material. I can see the lid with contents and date written on it. Thx for video. I have milk on my shelf but don't drink it. I'm going to put sugar and coco right next to it! With directions

I grew up drinking powdered milk as well and I hate it! It still makes me gag. But I am stocking up in it, just in case. My mom would make it more drinkable by mixing it with regular milk. Doing that would help stretch the good stuff.
