Thank you, I have access to Mr. Vacuum Packers at "VacUpack". If people would like I can interview him to answer more questions?
Small brown paper bags work great too and fit easily into the jars, especially the 1/2 gallon jars. Insert bag into jar, fill with product, fold over top of bag, lay a deoxidizer on top and seal up your jar.

Great tip!
I was lucky to have purchased several boxes of the older Ball Lids when a local Hardware store was going out of business. You are right that in comparison the older lids had better rubber. I read somewhere that the newer lids were only able to keep a seal for a year. Unlike the many years the older lids were able to keep.

You can also use cupcake liners and coffee filters

Yes, great suggestion.
I do as you do regarding gently prying off the lids but when I reuse them I warm them for a few minutes on a heating pad to soften the rubber. It sounds logical to me and while I can't swear to I think that I got that from Katzcradul. Also, adding a desiccant, not an o2 absorber, will help prevent clumping. I use a diy for this that I got from Prepsteaders.

Great comment. Love the idea of desiccant especially for sugar and salt.
Thanks for the tip

I do it differently and would like to share. I cut a coffee filter to fit inside the White Plastic Vacuum Lid and this has always worked with flour, sugar or whatever is small.

I must try this. I have had trouble fitting the coffee filter into the jar itself. I like the video option too though. Thank you both😊
good tip, thanks. 😊

I learned to use a cupcake liner in top of jar before sealing

Excellent idea. Thank you for your comment.
I do the same thing with one exception, I place a desiccant pack it the jar.

That is a great idea especially if someone lives in a high humidity area. The little bit of moisture can harden the product. But with a desiccant that issue would be eliminated. Thank you for the tip.
You r right

Great info. Does this apply to salt & sugar, too? And what is the.product you use for salt & sugar instead of an oxygen absorber?

Yes, this works for salt and sugar as well. Salt and sugar if packed in a high humidity environment can get hard. For that use a desiccant in the jar to aid in moisture issues. If vacuum sealed with a good quality vacuum sealer no O2 absorber needed.

I fill my mason jars to the top for salt. I don't use Oxygen Absorbers because once you open the package they start absorbing oxygen in the air. I have never vacuum sealed salt, nor do I use a mason jar metal lid, I use plastic. I do however, vacuum seal sugar using my attachment to my vacuum seal unit.

Would t it be better to use unbleached paper?

Yes! I think that would be a great idea.
The lids can be pried up with fingernails.

Yes but the pressure is all determined by the amount of vacuum. A Foodsaver is only about 18 HG and super easy to pry off. A commercial chamber unit is closer to 29 HG and it takes a pretty tuff finger to pry them off. But it can be done. Thank you for your comment.
I cut a round piece of wax paper to the rim size of the jar and put it in the jar.

Not needed with a good vacuum sealer.
I. Never place anything in dry jars that can soak up moisture to contaminate contents. 2. Never reuse lids!.. they are cheap to buy and you will have fewer issues in having unsealed jars ruining food... 3. Safety and common sense goes a long way, keep things simple and do what you know is Right 👍😎.

1. All dry products need to be dry before vacuum sealing. Or yes there will be issues in storage. 2. As for used lids: If they are not bent they work better than new lids under vacuum. Everyone check your storage on a regular basis. If you have the funds and can find enough new lids go ahead use new ones. But used lids for vacuum sealing is not an issue. 3. There really is no safety issue with vacuum sealing dry products. If they come unsealed they will just go stale. Your nose knows they will not be fresh. Canning is a very different situation please don't confuse vacuum sealing with canning. Vacuum sealing in jars is NOT preservation it is storage. There are many safety issue with "Canning". Storage in vacuum sealed jars of "dry products" is NOT Canning.

Not reusing lids only applies to canning, which is entirely different. This is just pulling air out of dry goods to extend their shelf life. Goods that, when bought commercially, come in what is essentially a paper bag. It's not like flour's going to ferment and potentially give you food poisoning, like pickles or tomatoes. I agree that common sense goes a long way, Ellis. Unsealed just means it'll go stale faster.
