The Mercedes-Benz 221 series is a luxury sedan of the Mercedes-Benz brand, built by Daimler AG between September 2005 and June 2013. It is the successor to the 220 series, and ninth generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It was first presented to the public at the IAA in September 2005, with deliveries beginning in the fall of 2005, and underwent a model update in May 2009.
