I've used this method often, it definitely works. Spot treating scratches like this instead of sanding or heavy compounding of the entire vehicle saves valuable clearcoat. Our job as detailers should be to improve the appearance to the customer's naked eye (not a detailer's trained eye), without compromising their clear coat. When it is your own vehicle, do whatever you want...as long as you know the risks.
