    Extra Pro tip: Have an accent. Here in Texas I don't have one so I had to polish more but this worked on my Jaguar F-Type windshield to remove scratches and a chemical stain that would not come off any other way. I tried everything and I had to use Cerium Oxide on a wool pad in a way this video described and it worked. Took two hours and going over it multiple times. But it worked.

    Hello, I have a question I’d like to ask. Is it possible to remove/repair waviness in the glass, made by abrasive discs? Polishing of the scratch in the windshield came out good, but cutting into glass made the glass rippled and hard to see through. Thanks for the answer.

  • @GlassPolishShop

    @GlassPolishShop

    You can try to go back over it with the abrasive but you must keep the pad flat on the glass and not use the edge of the pad as this what has most probably caused the waviness and is very hard to put right

  • @GlassPolishShop

    Hi, You need to use the blue abrasive a lot more! If you have a hazy area after polishing it is more than likely you have not used the blue pad enough and still have marks left over from the green. If you have used the blue twice as long as the green it should polish up straight away.

    Hi Steve, thank you for your inquiry. If used correctly you should not distort the glass. You wont need to polish the whole tank but you will need to make the damaged area a little bigger when using the abrasive to avoid getting a distortion and blend it in.

    I'm curious about the optic distorsion seeing through the glass and sideway, how important is it ?

  • @GlassPolishShop

    @GlassPolishShop

    Жыл бұрын

    When using the abrasive pads is where you can create a distortion in the glass. You have to be mindful not to concentrate on one specific are for too long and try to use a bigger are to smooth it out on the rest of the pane. staying on one spot will create a dish like distortion and using too much of the edge of the backing pad will make it bounce on the glass causing ripple effect. Done properly there should be no distortion looking head on through the glass. Even with some tempered/toughened glass there is some natural distortion looking sideways on at the glass it also depends on how much damage you are removing and how deep the damage is.

    To help with optic distortion, make sure to keep the grinding discs as flat as possible. Keep heat to a minimum. Bellow 120 degrees Fahrenheit would be best. To keep the grinding disks as flat as possible, it is best to use larger discs and a machine that is not a drill. A automotive type polisher is best for this as you can place your hand flat on the head of the polisher to hold the grinder on the glass, being careful not to press too hard. Let the abrasive do its job, pressing too hard will make it dig unevenly into the glass. Another tip to avoid distortion is to keep the glass clean and dry. There is no need to touch the glass as he did, use an inferred thermometer to check temp. The oils from your hand will make the grinding disc slip thus leaving a high spot where you touched it. Also, hot glass and cold water is a recipe for broken glass. Lastly, instead of only doing side to side motions while grinding, also do up and down motions. Alternating each time you go over the repair area. Always step out the repair area half the width of the grinding disc each time you do a pass. Hope this helps! 😊

  • @GlassPolishShop

    @GlassPolishShop

    It seems that the polishing process is highlighting the existing hairline scratches. This can happen when the compound penetrates the tiny scratches, making them more visible. • Before proceeding with the polishing stage, it's crucial to ensure that all scratches are adequately removed. Spend extra time with the blue GlasX60 abrasive, focusing on achieving a nice, uniform haze across the area without any visible scratches. • Once you have achieved a uniform haze without visible scratches, proceed to the polishing stage.

    Thank you for your inquiry. To address light spiderweb scratches, you can use cerium oxide or a glass polishing compound along with a felt polishing pad for effective removal. It is recommended to use a rotary device, such as an electric drill or rotary polisher, for optimal results.

    Thank you for your inquiry. The time required for the process really depends on the depth of the scratches and the size of the area. In the video, the scratches were quite deep, and as a result, the entire process took about 40 minutes. Keep in mind that for shallower scratches or smaller areas, the process might be quicker.

    I spent about 3 hours yesterday trying to remove some deep scratches. The kit I used had the green and the blue pads. Initially I could feel the scratches whilst running my finger nail over them. However, after three hours, the glass felt smoother but line of the scratches were still visible. It seemed when the pads were brand new they worked pretty good however, there was a significant drop in performance after about 30 seconds of use. I constantly tapped off the particles on the pads as instructed. I did not notice a large amount of glass particles like shown in the video. My glass never got hot (ambient temp outside where the glass was about 30 degrees F). Is there a coarser grit disc that I should have started with (as opposed to the green ones)? My polisher was set on 2000 rpm and I applied light to medium pressure on the polisher. I gave up because 3 hours seemed excessive based on the video demonstration of around 40 minutes. Help!

    Thank you for reaching out and providing detailed feedback on your experience with our kit. We appreciate the time you spent and the effort you put into using the kit. It's essential to note that the green GlasX120 pad you used is designed for scratch removal, and the blue pad (Glas60) is intended for pre-polishing. For extremely deep scratches, we do have a coarser pad called GlasNet200, which is primarily used for grinder and welder splatter removal or very deep scratches. A few tips for optimal performance: • Ensure the sanding discs are completely dry, and the glass surface is also dry. • Make sure the backing pad is completely flat on the glass. • While sanding, maintain a constant speed with your drill and apply moderate pressure. Additionally, if the scratches are particularly deep, you might consider starting with a coarser disc before progressing to the GlasX120. The video tutorials kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaCFpriloa69ctY.html demonstrate how and why GlasNet200 discs are used. I hope these tips prove helpful, and if you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out, or drop us an email with your contact phone number, and one of our team members will schedule a phone call. email: contact@glasspolishshop.com

    there is a product called "nothin's better". It is used for removing water spots. I used it on my car that would sit and get sprinkler spots on the windows. I have been using it on my shower doors for years. to do it easier, take the shower doors off and lay them flat. If these are permanent panels, it will take a bit more work. Try it on a small spot to see how much work is involved. Use paper towels, not a rag or towel, as the powder will just go into the cloth and not work. a little water, powder and some elbow grease and it works great. It doesn't take much. a little goes a long ways. Use like you would cleanser. Once it's clean, use a squeegee after showering so you won't have to do it again for a long time.

    How do I find out if my appartment window class has a coating?

  • @GlassPolishShop

    @GlassPolishShop

    4 ай бұрын

    Hi, • Look for any markings on the glass itself. Manufacturers often label windows to indicate if they have special coatings. This information is typically found in one of the corners of the glass. • Examine the window glass closely. Some coatings, like Low-E (Low Emissivity) coatings, may not be visible to the naked eye. However, if there's a reflective or tinted appearance to the glass, it might indicate the presence of a coating.

  • @GlassPolishShop

    In general no there is nothing else that could go wrong, if you are working on laminated or float glass then you should keep the temperature in check because overheating can cause it to crack, as long as you follow the step by step instructions and take your time you will be fine. If you mean a manufactures coating on the glass then in a double glazed unit the coating is inside the glazed unit so there will be no problem with that. If there is an after market window film on the glass then it has to be removed before any repair can be done.@@TimHarrison1

    You can use an infrared thermometer to check the temperature. If you don't have one, the only way to gauge the glass temperature is by using the palm of your hand. The maximum temperature you can reach during the process depends on the type of glass you are working with. For example, mirror or laminated glass can reach temperatures of up to 48 degrees Celsius, while tempered glass can go as high as 82 degrees Celsius.

    • The reason you have the cloudiness left is that you may have used the side part of the abrasive when removing the scratches, as this is not as worn down as the inside it may have scored the glass and caused this to happen. When removing the scratch using an abrasive disc, you want to use the pad completely flat and try not to stop on the same spot when removing the scratch; this will prevent you from causing glass distortion. • Before starting the polishing process, make sure that the surface has a uniform clouded appearance (by looking at the picture, this has not been achieved yet). To remove the marks you have in the picture, we recommend spending more time with the blue pad flat on the glass and a constant speed of about 2000rpm. • Please note polishing glass is a time-consuming process. The video has been edited from over 40 min long to only 7 min. The restoration process takes time, especially for someone who never used our or similar systems before. • When polishing, don’t be afraid to experiment with speed and pressure. Lower the speed to about 1000-1400 rpm and put the pressure to 5-10 lbs to help the polishing compound break down more quickly and get better results. • If the glass is still cloudy or some abrasive marks left by the Blue disc are still visible, you may need to use more compound and polish for a little longer. Remember that using too much water while polishing will dissolve the compound.
