I’ve always thought the BLT is the perfect sandwich! It’s just the perfect marriage of tastes. But like a lot of others I’m a Dukes girl, I was raised on it as you were with Hellmans. But I have even more of a reason to be a loyal Dukes girl, about 5 years ago my mother now 97 strong gave me a small stack of letters from my dad during WWII one night I was cooking supper and they were on the table and I asked my daughter to read a couple to me so she got about half way through the first one and my dad said “ honey could you maybe send me a jar of mayonnaise Dukes if you can find it, there’s nothing like it over here (he was all over Europe then) and I really miss it. Well we both laughed cause he always did love it especially with a tomato sandwich. So my daughter said I think I’ll tweet this to the Dukes company if someone sees it they can get a good laugh too. Well about a week later she calls a work Mom! Mom! The Dukes people tweeted back to me and said they are doing a 100 year anniversary book about the Dukes company and would love to include that part of the letter in the book! I said tell them if they’ll include a picture of mom & dad from back then we’ll send the pictures of both. So she did and they said they would love to, and sent my mom a copy of the book with a very nice letter thanking her for letting them use the letter and they’re picture in the book. So if you ever see the Dukes mayo 100 year anniversary book look in the middle and you’ll see my mom and dad. I hope you get a laugh from it too! 😂

I can't remember if I mentioned this in a comment before on your channel. But when my Memaw died this past year, my aunts found 150 recipes she kept from through out her life. My cousin turned them into a cookbook that everyone got last Christmas. I'm a retired Chef and I helped my cousin form the book. Memaw would send me her hand written recipes when I was going to college in Tallahassee. The one she wanted me to try the most was a home made light bread. Thats all she talked about. I never made it. I have the hand written one, and the one from her cook book. Your channel keeps reminding me that thats the first thing I need to make when I finish remodeling my Kitchen!!!

My mom called store bought white bread, light bread. All of her family came out of the south, Scots Irish who settled all over Appalachia. Her generation worked themselves into Wyoming following the oil fields. Her dad was an oil field mechanic. That scattered the family into Wyoming and Utah. We worked ourselves up into north Idaho, it’s good country. We’re having a warm fall this year in the mountains of north Idaho, we’re working like dogs trying to get ready for winter. Your channel is rather like going over to family members house for a visit. I love it. Blessings, TeresaSue.

My uncle used to manage a country club that was about 45 miles east of us and my sister and I went worked with him one day which we would do occasionally. He had them fix us their club sandwich. That was like a BLT with chicken salad on it but the way they prepared it, they put one bread, then put the the mayonnaise the lettuce and tomato, then they would put another bread and put the chicken salad and bacon on it and then cover it with the third slice of bread. After that they would cut it in four and put toothpicks in each one. We felt so fancy when we would go over there and all it was was a BLT with chicken salad but it was delicious. You always seem to jog past memories for me.

I'm a purist too, regarding my "perfect" BLT (although I use Miracle Whip), but years ago a friend took me out to eat lunch at a "LadiesTea Room", located in a historic antebellum home in the Belle Meade community near Nashville. We ordered the Signature BLT, built on house-made hearty, toasted sourdough bread, freshly made mayonnaise, hickory-smoked bacon, icy-cold leaf lettuce, and a layer of crispy, hot, cornmeal battered, fried green tomatoes. Oh, my word!!! Best BLT Ever!! Certainly too labor intensive for a quick lunch sandwich at home - but a real treat!

One year I was bemoaning the fact I had so many green tomatoes still on the vine before our first frost was coming and an older gentleman told me to pick them and put a good layer of newspaper in the bottom of a cardboard box and lay the tomatoes down in a single layer, then cover with another generous layer of newspaper and then check them every week and take out the ripe ones to eat. He also said some people just wrap the individual tomatoes in a sheet of newspaper and stack them in a box, but he thought it was too much work to unwrap them all to find the ripe ones. I did it the way he told me with the layers of newspaper and it worked wonderfully!! I had some ripe tomatoes to almost Thanksgiving. We only had one tomato out of dozens to go bad! You can put up to 2 layers of tomatoes in a box, if you do more layers, the weight of the upper layers squish the ones on the bottom.

don't think I've made a BLT w/out the A(vocado) in decades - such the perfect complement. I know bacon is salty, but I always salt a raw tomato...just brings out so much more tomato flavor. pretty much always do my bacon in the oven, and for a sandwich, have to have that extra diagonal piece. thick, peppered bacon is a fav. nobody else in my family likes the bread the way I do, but I am a "rare toast" girl at my core; barely tanned, just like me.

My mom and Nana cook the bacon in a skillet on low heat and covered, stirring it now and then. Piled high and deep on toast, mayo, lettuce and tomato. It made the bacon tender not overly crunchy. Crunchy bacon can break a tooth was their reason.😋🥓🥪

About as classic as it gets right there. From time to time I put a fried egg on mine, (B,E,L,T). I do like the avocado when I remember to buy them. Lately I've been using fried SPAM instead of bacon because it all went into my chili Saturday morning. I recently learned of another favorite sandwich that Elvis loved. It's called a "Colorado Fools Gold ". A loaf of French bread with some removed and loaded with peanut butter, jelly, and a pound of bacon. 4 days worth of calories in one sandwich. I'm not that brave anymore. Thanks guys and stay safe.

Hellman's baby! That's it. Where I am, people either use Hellman's or nasty Miracle Whip. My cousin is so bad that he is known to bring a jar of Hellman's with him during the holiday's where many people serve turkey sandwiches at their parties. His sisters husband loves Miracle Whip so when they invite our side, my cousin brings the potato salad and the largest size jar of Hellman's for all of us to use for our sandwich. Luckily, it's all done in fun, but I'm not sure what would happen if he forgot the Hellman's. 😄

My childhood treat was to be taken to the Walgreen's lunch counter for a BLT lunch: sandwich, fries and a Coke - 75-cents. Toasted Wonder Bread (mayo on both sides), 3 slices of bacon, iceberg lettuce and a slice of beefsteak tomato. Since then I've had all manner of BLT - abominations, all! Forget your fancy bread and radish sprouts! So, just a month or so ago, having talked to my wife about my childhood BLT, I went out and bought the proper ingredients, although I had to buy a "heirloom" tomato since the beefsteak seems to be extinct. Yes, I haven't lost the touch! They were great.

Growing up we only had wonder white bread in the house and my mother was partial to oscar meyer bacon. She made the most amazing BLTs ever. If we were lucky we'd also get a side of potato chips : ) These days I mostly eat multigrain bread ('cause my Dr says so) but about once a year when the first tomatoes ripen I break down and buy light bread. I stay busy that week going between tomato sandwiches and BLTs. Don't know if you've tried Bentons Bacon but if you haven't give it a try. It's really good and locally sourced (well local to East Tennessee anyway).

We eat ours just like you - bacon, lettuce, tomato with mayo on toasted white bread. In fact, that is what I had planned for lunch tomorrow! And I always cut our sandwiches diagonally, just like my mother did when I was growing up.

I love a good BLT! We do them pretty much the same way as you did, including the Hellman's. I also love to cook my bacon in the oven. I used to always fry it, but I saw someone on the Food Network (I think) cook it in the oven and I've been doing it that way ever since. It's so much easier to do it that way!

We love BLT’s. I always put a slice of onion on mine, and a piece of cheese. And, I MUST salt and pepper the tomato layer of it. So delicious. We love Hellmans OR Dukes mayo. I always serve it with homemade potato soup, or hand cut French fries. Or sometimes, potato chips.

Southern New Hampshire here…BLT is my favorite. Made exactly the same. Some of my favorite variations include adding sliced red onion, American cheese and pickles. During the summer when the tomatoes are the best from the garden, we have these at least once a week. We may also make it a turkey club sandwich by adding a third slice of bread and turkey to the BLT. Just love your content and feel a kindred spirit having Appalachian mountains in my state. Thanks for sharing your culture.

“Who put the flavors together” I ALWAYS think that about potato salad! What wonderful imagination came up with that? I’m guessing in France because of the mayonnaise. I was so surprised when I was young and got to go to Switzerland the first meal we got in a little café had a salad and basically it was potato salad. It didn’t look exactly like our potato salad. The potatoes were cut in round slices instead of chunks, but it was still basically potato salad And it was good!

Just started watching you channel. I’m in Colorado now but I was raised in Missouri. Most of what you eat and how you live is just like I did. The best BLTs we had was with our homegrown tomatoes and lettuce. There is something about your presentation that draws me back to view more of your videos! It’s like I’m next to you as you talk! Your family is the same way. The twins are young and pretty and full of life and you and Matt are more quiet and reserved, yet with the confidence one earns through life’s ups and downs. Something I started doing recently, I put 2 slices of bread into the same slot of the toaster. When they come out, one side is toasted and the other stays soft. Makes a great sandwich! Another big advantage, there are less toast crumbs so eating is neater. I don't like biting into the crispy toast, it scratches my mouth sometimes. So, mayo on the toasty side. I also have facial paralysis and can't open my jaw very wide so this makes the sandwiches less messy if I have to mush them a bit. Great with egg sandwiches, too. (And I like finding fewer crumbs in my cleavage after dinner, too.)

You know I love all kinds of bread...even different types of lettuce....but growing up in the 50's and 60's despite my Mom's wonderful homemade bread, a BLT consisted of store bought white bread...toasted or not....plus mayo, three strips of bacon, tomato slices...preferably home grown ones....and original old iceberg lettuce.....the kind that comes in the big round head. I love other types of salad greens when I'm having a salad, but thinking on it, those fancier lettuces may not have even been in grocery stores. The variety of food available in grocery stores today is night and day different than when I grew up.

Looks like a great supper. I also bake my slab bacon in oven on a cookie sheet at 400 for 15 to 20 minutes. I prefer white or split top wheat bread toasted in toaster. I use either Hellmans or Kraft mayonnaise, never heard of Duke. I usually put more bacon on my Blt than you did. When we buy our slab bacon (I never buy prepackaged bacon, too thin for us) I always slice each slice in half before baking. Actually when we buy it and get it home I pile it up evenly and slice it in half before putting in fridge or freezer. This shortened slice size of bacon fits on my cookie sheet better, and is perfect size for sandwich. Then I add the tomato and lettuce. Now I am craving a Blt. Thanks for another great video.

I love to fry my bread in bacon grease. I can't be the only one. Plain Ole white bread, fried in hot grease right after you fry bacon is amazing. I fry it until it gets crunchy. I eat it just like that. I don't make a sandwich with it, I just eat it plain. My grandparents from Slovakia/ austria hungry made it for me like this.
