@BobbyRicky you couldn’t be more right about that. Those girls can leave home knowing that they had the best parents they could ever have had! They will carry that on with their families one day. You can bet on that. And then those grandbabies will benefit from having them as their grandparents! You have no idea how much fun you will have with grandchildren! I have five so I know!

You've probably heard the saying: "The family that prays together, stays together." Maybe another angle to that could be: "The family that hikes together, stays together." There's just something wholesome and bonding that occurs when a family hikes together, immersed in God's natural world. Add to that the healing and restoring qualities of nature, plus the chance to declutter from the "progress" of man and be focused on the one who is the creator of the natural world. No wonder Jesus said to His disciples: "Come apart and rest a while." Or as Vance Havner puts it: "If you don't come apart, you WILL come apart."

Yep, I have done this with my dad. But never once, did my family as a whole do this. There was always someone missing or not interested. Now my family seems immensely fractured and it upsets me that I'm not that close with my brothers at all. Probably an age thing, they are now 7 and 10 years older. Cherish watching this to see the close bond you all have

One of my favorite memories is doing my twin sister's make-up for her on her wedding day. My sister is my hero; she is a Navy veteran and had to go to war, something in my own military career I did not have to do. We sat in the bathroom of the house we grew up in and laughed and laughed, nearly crying (stop! you'll ruin your make-up, I said!) as I applied eye shadow and mascara. Marriage did not separate us; we are still as close as ever, regardless of the distance that our married lives have taken us. I wish all the best for Corie and Austin. Before you know, Katie will be telling you she's also getting married and then....grandchildren! Blessings to you all!

I feel truely sorry for children who grow up these days with no access to woods to explore and play in. We grew up on about 50 acres in Randolph County NC. Sunday afternoons usually found our whole family walking in the woods. Our parents included. Three of the five of us built on the homeplace and my neice inherited the house we grew up in when mama passed away three years ago. What a blessing that the house is still lived in by family. Congratulations to Corie and Austin for a wonderful life together!

I went to West Virginia where my Dad is from when I was around 10-11 yrs old. His Mamma made the best food & it was just beautiful in those hills -just like in this video. We went hiking & came by a cave-like area where my uncle dug a small pool of water out in the sandy area, & the spring water was so cold & delicious! We also picked & ate berries along the way. A beautiful memory I will always cherish. My husband & I live in Oklahoma now in the boonies with lots of hills & trees & deer. Does not compare with the mountains in W. VA.!

Corey and Katie, I had a twin sister for about 71 years. She passed away in 2020. I would not change growing up with a twin for anything. I always say, "I wish everyone had a twin to grow up with. When she passed away, I was totally lost. I sat down and started thinking about all the wonderful memories and our shared experiences. I began writing down as many of those memories as I could recall, of course, I have thought of many more since then.Soon I began to concentrate on the good times we shared and not so much the loss. I sent your mom a collection of these memories. I called it "The Unlikely Adventures of Libby and Bil"l, her name was Elizabeth Ann and mine is William Stan. I like to read them again every once in a while, not to get all depressed and sad but to revel in the life we shared while growing up in Eastern Kentucky.

I can be in the foulest mood and my wife can make me laugh every time she tries. 38 years and counting. I like to imagine what this part of NJ was like after the Wisconsin ice sheet retreated 20,000 years ago. It left Lake Hopatcong in its wake. Portions of the land behind my house is so steep that it has never been built on. Been that way for 20,000 years. Congratulations on the marriage of your daughter. I wish her all the best.

You have a lovely family, I love your channel. My husband and I lived in Highlands/Cashiers, NC for several years and we miss the mountains. Even though we visit, it's not the same as living there. Your channel keeps it alive for me. I was raised in Cincinnati, their annual Appalachian Festival has beautiful mountain crafts to buy, bluegrass music and clogging. It's special.

Your hikes on old paths and forgotten roads brings to mind when I was doing a lot of genealogy and kept finding relatives who married someone from 60 miles away back in the 1800s. In the 60s when I was a kid our community was so isolated that I couldn't figure out how my great grandfathers were importing brides from adjoining states. I finally figured out the road system was so different at that time, Indian trails, game trails, log skid roads and they were traveling on horseback. So what is now a 60 mile trip one way was more like 27 as the crow flies that was much more doable.

THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!! I wish much happiness to Corie and Austin in their new life as husband and wife. May they have many many walks in the woods together and bring any children they are blessed with up to be walkers in the woods. Love you all so much. I was born in the bedroom of my mom and dad's little house in Gilmer County WV and lived there until I was about 4. Mom and dad kept the farm but moved to PA for dad to work. We would spend most every other weekend and most all holidays back down there. My paternal grandparents lived just about a mile up a dirt road from our place. I loved walking with my dad in the woods or working in the garden with him. It was a wonderful life. So many stories I heard and so many memories I have from those walks. I think my boys (yes Matt, I had a husband and 2 boys and most all our animals (cats and dogs) were boys too. So I know how you feel.) Thank you for sharing so much of your life with us and for stirring up those fond memories in me. Love you all and may God continue to bless all of you.

Congratulations young lady! May the two of you spend many love filled years together! We wish you the best! Just don’t forget to call home every now and then, just to let everyone know that you’re still alive and kicking! One thing that I can say is that you can see the love that you have for one another. To the parents, you should be extremely proud of the children you raised. To the girls, you should be very proud of your parents. Know it or not your family is a role model for many, many families. And there are a LOT of families out there that would trade everything they own for what you have. I know that even here in the Appalachains sometimes things happen and we’re not immune from the situations that cause the heartache. But the people are strong and loving. Never underestimate the power of love and always stay close to God first and foremost! If you move into the suburbs or city, you’ll miss the taste of that good old mountain spring water! 😀

That old road at the beginning of your hike must have been well used for a long time, it still looks like a good forest road. I'm so happy you found the daylillies, and I hope you went back and got a few pieces (you did!). The do real well in the sun, even the summer heat. Even the leaves make a pretty border or mound. They will make their own nice patch. Once they establish, you'll be giving pieces away. Who knows how long those have been growing wild in the woods? Your family lunch in the woods was so fun, so sweet, so nostalgic, I laughed and teared up both. Katie's story about "the look" reminded me so much of my much loved departed friend Sandy. We were friends for something like 30 years, and communicated a LOT with our eyes and eyebrows, and we knew exactly what we were saying. Corie, sugar, what a perfect last weekend at home with your parents and sister, and I am so happy for you and wish you the best of luck in your marriage. I love old road beds. They stir my imagination about who may have walked or ridden on the old road beds. My aunt and uncle bought land and built many years ago. You can see so obviously a road bed running through the front yard when freshly mowed. Also some deeply imbedded squared rocks we thought may have been cornerstones from an old church. The property had nothing for past 100 years, so it had to have been an old horse trail. What a great way to spend that time with your adorable Corie.

When I was 6 and living with my aunt in Charlotte, NC, I would go out in the woods and gather big clumps of moss and pretend they were ladies hats. I set up long boards to display them. It was so much fun to try them on Buck, my aunt’s collie dog!! Lol I love walking in the woods. ♥️🙏🏼♥️

@@CelebratingAppalachia I don’t know if Katie has ever been crawdad fishing with nets and all but here in north Louisiana after a big rain we get our nets, of course during the season, buy some chicken parts, tie it in that net and throw them in those rain filled ditches and wait. If the ditches have lots of crawdads you don’t wait long before you grab your pole and start lifting nets. The last time we went we caught enough to have a boil for ten people. It’s a lot of work bc of purging and cleaning and then the boil but the rewards are so worth the work! It’s really more fun catching them than eating them!

That's probably the old bank Lilly ,also called Tiger Lilly . Of yestersday's , these were the first flower the women would plant in these parts . The daffodil's, and the Tiger Lilly's . You could say that they are the flowers that remain when the home , and folks are long gone . May I suggest Tipper that you go back to this lovely place , and replant the remaining Lilly's in a more solid ground . So that they may repopulate at the old homesite . Just a thought . Thank you. 💕

Lol at Matt. The guy has a lot of patience, surrounded with all those gals that love talking. I've watched a few of these videos. That's a good family. These are spot on compared to what I've learned from my late granny, that grew up in hiawasse GA. I sure miss her cooking. You do a lot things very similar. There is nothing like it in restaurants today, even all the local ones that advertise "real country cooking ". It's not even close. I'd glady pay 20 bucks for a plate of granny's food if somebody could do it like that in a restaurant these days.. Thx for the vids

Matt used the word “champer” and I had to look it up in the dictionary. It’s a word that means chew or bite. It is from the word “champ” as in “champ at the bit”. I haven’t heard the word used this way before and I got excited about it. It’s not used in my neck of the woods. Good one! All God’ blessings to the beautiful new family in their happy new life.
