US Special Operations Forces Fight Through Ambush In ISIS Infested Mountains In Afghanistan

Intense helmet cam combat footage from Afghanistan shows a convoy of U.S. Special Forces, Army Infantry and Afghan Commandos fighting their way through a group of ISIS infested mountains in Afghanistans Nangarhar province back in 2017.
The soldiers are seen engaging several ISIS positions with all kinds of vehicle mounted weapons, rifles and rocket launchers while being supported by coalition airstrikes and mortar fire.
The video is part of an 20 minute combat compilation uploaded by W. Smith ABLE CO. 1-36th INF 1/1AD during his deployment in Nangarhar.
During the time he was there the famous GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) was dropped on an ISIS-Khorasan cave complex in the Achin District of Afghanistans Nangarhar Province so it can be assumed the compilation was taken somewhere in that area.

@@InsanelyOrange Most likely the reason he had a loose grip is because the lockup time (time from trigger is pulled to projectile fully leaving weapon) is significantly longer than a firearm. For this reason you don't want to impart any pressure when firing as as influencing recoil affects your POA milliseconds before the projectile is clear. So while when you shoot a firearm you want tension, when shooting stuff like 40mm, rockets, etc you want a loose grip. Gustavs you want a tight grip because the lockup is nearly as fast as a real firearm. This is the same reason pellet gun shooters and long barrel rimfire shooters like biathalon competitors use a very loose grip on the their rifle. They want to avoid any influence on the barrel before the projectile is out.

I had a Ukrainian neighbor who fought in Afghanistan during the 1980's, and he once described being ambushed in a convoy by the Muhajideen. From what I gathered it may have happened to him multiple times. He said they would blow up the first and last vehicles on the narrow road to trap the entire convoy, and he saw so many of his friends die. Some of the stuff he described was pretty horrifying. Watching this video and seeing the type of terrain he may have been fighting in, it gives me a better appreciation of how shitty and terrifying the whole experience must have been for him.

Its a shame its hard to carry as many rockets you do grenades. Rockets go where you point them at. Grenades need precise enough ranges. And at the ranges you use them at, you might aswell get fucked up by rifle fire. It looks like they share the same opinion irl lmfao. Having the US flag held that high is the best way to let the enemy know where exactly is your vehicle.

Ummm, on a road in between mountains, and the enemies have the high ground. Having a flag mounted on your vehicle or not doesnt matter. However, having that flag mounted on your vehicle during an ambush, it will help any air support that gets on station, provide 100% accurate PID, and won’t make any mistake on hitting our own forces. Many units both regular nobodies to special operations have been misidentified by air support during day and night. The only time having a flag will do more harm than good, is when a sniper trained by our forces, and/or highly combat experienced paid mercenary from a foreign country is alone targeting our forces. Both OIF/OEF had a few snipers that were never killed or captured by US/nato forces. Those snipers have killed and wounded (medically retired) many people during the two conflicts. Iraq there were two snipers I’ve encountered, one of them were cross trained and probably did missions with special operations units before defecting. That sniper used to inflict non lethal hits to an individual furthest from cover, that will take a few people to move wounded behind cover. Then pick off those who ran out to go and try to get the person to cover for treatment. That same sniper used to hit us in all of the weak spots that get exposed during certain positions. Especially when you return fire in the general direction of were most attacks are coming from. Depends on the position’s he goes to after shooting no more than two shots. He will shoot anyone right above the side plates, when our arms expose those locations from our shooting posture. The one in Afghanistan was much more clever, because we had the entire ridge he would shoot from already gridded out. So all artillery and air support would barrage the entire area, but never get him. His tactics were to shoot the new M-ATV (the lifted beefed up 4 door vehicles) engine blocks thru the hood. Because he knew they were all fiberglassed hoods. Then wait until a either a wrecker shows up and picks off the dismounts hooking up for a tow. Or when everyone dismounts the downed vehicle ground guide another vehicle for hookup, while the other dismounts are removing items needed, and when they head to other vehicles with room that’s when he will pick off those he chooses. Usually he would wait for the wrecker team to come, because when he picks off the mechanics, and he disables the big wrecker as well. Now the convoy is either split in half with two vehicles blocking the route, and now the convoy will have secure the area to call QRF/RCP/air support (Apache or Kiowa) to escort a bulldozer to push the vehicles out of the route. So he essentially stops any unit from doing any mission, forces us to either abandoned and destroy the vehicles. While pulling air support away from going to other locations in that AO. Besides IEDs being one of the main psychological worries, those snipers really dropped morale, and added fear to the units he targeted. Afghanistan’s IEDs weren’t something that worried much units, unlike Iraq in the first decade. However when fighters/ bomb makers moved from the Middle East to Southeast Asia. That’s when the IEDs started to have an impact on all forces, and expose the weakness in the MRAPs top heavy design. Which they took advantage of, by setting up 155s or daisy chain IEDs at the turrets height, to cause the vehicles to roll over, or off a cliff on a narrow road.
