CPL Ryan Pape, 23, of East Grand Forks, MN died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Camp Pendleton, while conducting a night time Low Level Parachute Operation on December 03, 2009.

My father James Anikowski was a Corporal Marine in Vietnam. He passed away in 2009 at 62 years of age of bone cancer from agent orange. I have SO MUCH love and respect for our troops ❤️🙌🏻👏🏻 May God bless and protect you all ❤️💕

Likely has ear plugs in. But I’m quite surprised as I thought marines used the over the ear - cup protection? The kind that lets you hear low level sounds but blocks loud sounds. ??

@@carsonhunt4642 In combat, armed forces rarely use ear pro. They need to be able to clearly hear commands and subtle things which may be miscommunicated or go unnoticed with plugs/muffs. Hearing loss / tinnitus is one of the biggest issues for returning vets.

When unexpected, yes it can cause disorientation, but many can handle multiple shots just fine without ear pro when it's happening -- I don't mean they are immune to long-term damage. Health articles make it seem like one shot will burst your ear drum no question. In rare circumstances immediate hearing impairment can occur, but really most damage is from prolonged exposure to high decibels. I think you're discounting the value of actually hearing both loud and low sounds clearly. There are electronic ear plugs and muffs which instantly mitigate 'loud' sounds, but the thing is in infantry it can be very important to register those sounds at a higher level for situational awareness. The idea of being among a team wearing muffs in the thick of it is also laughable. It can be cumbersome. It's just not as practical as you might think relying on little wireless battery powered devices in the field. Think about other situations where people are running a more covert op and they have to communicate in a more hushed manner. Or when you're trying to use a radio to call something in. Or if you're on patrol at night. If you're going in guns blazing expecting to shoot anything that walks or firing artillery far away from combatants, sure, it would probably do them good to wear ear pro, but it's certainly not ideal for every situation. Many know their hearing will be fucked later, but it's a trade off for them depending on situation -- which could be life vs death.

I did not serve in the armed forces. I am getting a little older these days (57) and as the time goes by, I start to appreciate more and more what these men and women do for us. I wish I could contribute in some way but I do want to thank all of you. I'm just an average guy, but you folks are the real heart and soul of the USA.

Yes, absolutely, when they had more better equipped enemy like Serbia in 1999 they lost big number of jets and uavs

Quite a few soldiers dont use it as a coping method. They genuinely enjoy it. It depends on who it is, how they are joking and how long they've been in combat

Sure there is fear and anticipation. But it's also fun to blow stuff up and shoot things. That's why people do it for fun

Truly impressive the way they carry themselves. Great communication and even greater resilience. They are almost robotic in their target acquisition. Nothing seems to phase them. Even at the end of the lip they took accountability in identifying a person coming to collect the injured and did not fire, may not have had the angle maybe or did not see a weapon. Either way, its a privilege to see them work. God bless.

My Grandpa and Dad was army....but Marines are a different breed. respect.

+Brandon Sanchez this can't be a body cam, he's setting shots up, and he's not fighting or holding a gun. You can hear him using the zoom wheel on the camera and changing light exposure and some other stuff. No body cam has that much control, he's just a reporter/documentary filmer

@Noah Reed no he didn't, trust me i kno what i saw and he clearly put prayer beads into his pocket, im from that region of Afghanistan and older people in general like to carry prayer beads around, and it's very common.

Dude I straight pissed my pants. I heard my last name get called, and I literally looked around my room thinking someone was speaking to me. I've never met anyone other than my relatives with the same last name. Nobody in my family served in the Marines around this time, my dad served in the Army, but I highly doubt he'd be grouped up with Marines.
