Hands down the most accurate and well rounded war documentary ive seen to date. You really feel like you are right there with these marines from start to finish. Hellish, harrowing, and hilarious all while leaving you with a very small yet potent enough taste of what our infantry soldiers and marines deal with everyday while fighting a war they know is hopeless for a civilian population that doesn't want them there and want nothing more than to live out there lives with a sense of normalcy and peace they haven't felt since the pre soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Truly touching on so many levels.

It was incredibly sad to see the hardness in that young boys eyes. He looked more grown up than some of the marines, and has likely witnessed violence, fear, and death the likes of which they couldn't begin to imagine. My heart always goes out to the children who's childhood has been robbed from them by war, I cannot begin to imagine the trauma they will live with for the rest of their lives.

At first I thought, “how fatalistic!” And then i realized it’s not. It’s more truth. More sides. And more complicated than I’ll ever fully comprehend. Thank you, marines and service people and to Ben Anderson and his team for this film, it’ll stay with me for life. There wasn’t pomp and parading from anyone but politicians here (as much as Obama seems cool, all politicians say pretty things and create window-dressings, but it’s the people on the ground who say it like it is, without frills. Thanks again for this.

Really? What a stupid comment along with others in this section. And you were a vet? Highly doubtful, yes the Afghan soldiers probably didn’t have a lot of training, but you can’t trust someone who’s gonna breach like that. They gonna get you all killed. And the Marines had probably had this so much they were sick of it. The Afghan soldiers didn’t want to breach, so they had too. But it was an Afghan led operation, so they should be first in.

USA and Canadian forces and UK forces regularly killed civilians and there was more than one wedding, funeral and marriage which was rocketed without an official apology. essentially everyone who lived there hated western military soon enough don't forget the rapes too ... which were mostly not prosecuted and committed by mercenary forces who some how never answer to any law in the end. that made everyone pissed off. US soldiers weren't fighting Taliban. They were fighting some one whose sister was raped and whose uncles and aunts died from a rocket at a family gathering.

so horrifying to see our military offering cash and 'condolences' to a man who just lost basically everyone in his family just a few days ago. i understand that this is the best thing we can do at the moment so it's heartbreaking. i can't imagine our soldiers being there fighting the war, or actually at this point, who fought in the war. we lost so much and they lost so much for nothing after all.

I understand exactly what you mean. Sarah, nothing about this makes sense to a “soul” that has reached a certain enlightenment status. I know! The reality of being “there” takes Precedence over EVERYTHING. One minute you see them walking around not paying any attention to you and the next minute they grab a rifle. Chaos is the only word I know to use. Most of them are stuck in the middle like one of the elders said BUT choices and decisions are made and they INSTANTLY become the enemy. The best example I can give you to get a true feeling of what I’m saying is this. Imagine if I dropped you and 5 of your closest friends off in a completely foreign country. You had to depend on each other for everything. I hire a guide for all of you. He takes you and your friends all over the city. You’re having a blast but when night falls he and his buddies come to hunt every one of you down. Now, imagine the disbelief every one of you will feel. From this point on is where CHAOS kicks in. Guarantee you will NOT TRUST ANYONE BUT YOUR FRIENDS from that point on. Been there. Takes a long time to rid yourself of that reality. Humans are not perfect and never will be. I had an NDE that totally shifted my perspective on everything. Our creator gave us “free will”. That’s the catalyst behind everything we experience. Million rabbit holes to go down so I won’t even attempt. All I can say is I’m thankful for every day and every blessing.

We destroyed what blood oath Taliban existed through generations. What remains now is lawlessness and a new idea to exploit what the central government can't control nor contain. Most of the mujahedeen in Afghanistan were killed or disbanded through the 70s to 90s and early 2000. The lion of Panjshir was killed. The problem with Afghanistan is getting the population of Afghanistan to care more about Afghanistan and their way of life, than other countries. It doesn't appear that's going to happen.
