UNI-T UT210E Unboxing and review!

Ғылым және технология

Hello!
Today I have received my new UNI-T UT210 clamp meter and thought I would make a quick unboxing and review video.
Please note that this is NOT a paid advertisement and I have very specific needs that this meter fulfills.
Overall this is a decent meter to buy as your second meter if you need the DC milliamp measurement capabilities although the provided leads are not great.
The compact size is great as is the overall build quality.
Definitely recommended, especially for the price (I paid 55$ CAD for mine via amazon.ca)

Have this exact meter for a few years now and and as an electrical and electronics engineer I have found really useful and reliable. Just after I bought it I gave it to a friend who calibrates meters etc. for a living and straight out of the box it was almost perfect, in fact he was quite surprised as it stacked up against the FLUKE meters very well. It does seem well built and I have drop tested once or twice (not on purpose) and it still checks out fine. And if it's good enough for BIG CLIVE then it's surely good enough for me. Craig

The offset when you measure dc current comes from the earth's magnetic field, not from inductive pickup from nearby kit. As you pointed out, you need to zero this out before you measure dc current. The mistake you made, which might account for the difference in the reading between the two meters is that you altered the orientation of the clamp meter between zeroing it and clamping the wire. Once zeroed, it's important not to rotate or move the meter about.

When I bought mine it was the only inecpensive clamp meter that did DC. There are a lot of AC only clamp meters out there aimed at three phase industrial guys for whom disconnecting a cable to insert an ameter is not an option. But if you are checking Battery banks, you also don't want to disturb well bolted down connections. A proper test should always be done with a calibrated multimeter, but for quickly testing a lot of thick wire in a fuse box this meter is really good and for the money it is excellent. ps . It defaults to AC because that's the primary use of these meters.

2-3 mA DC difference on your first test is coming probably from voltage drop caused by shunt resistance. If you leave both meters in circuit , you might get even better results/closer to each other.

@@SimpleElectronics hi Thanks for this great review I'm interesting at buying a DC clamp meter, and i cant choose between the ut210e to the BSIDE ACM 91 Both pretty similar but both have their pros and cons I'll appreciate it if you can help me out which is the best one to go with, as i looking for the most useful & reliable one that will not failed after several years. For now I have the BSIDE adm 20 fo a while and I like it. Some of the uni-t pros against the BSIDE are; Diodes test( the BSIDE have a temperature instead) Looks slightly better instructed inside Much known company, but as my current adm20, usually you get more features with the unbranded like bside then unity ( which you pay more for the brand too) The uni-t cons \lacks( against the BSIDE are ) Looks slightly slower to reading values \boot\ switch modes Not looks that auto range at AC ( have some programs to choose from ) I dont know if i just imagine( according to the videos I've seen) or the lcd backlight is weaker Needs to turn The dial to Off position which is less instantly to boot and wear out more the dial over time..- but by the other hand , the BSIDE can be powered on accidently.. The ncv on the BSIDE looks more noticeable to my taste, and it have the live mode, which i don't know if and how useful it, but its a nice feature to have AND ONE OF THE MOST LIKELY part at the BSIDE, is the design, which you can hold in one hand with attached probe, looks comfortable to me.. Hope you can help me out which is the best one

The only reason to buy this is to measure DC current using the clamp in the 2 amp range. That's why I bought it - to measure charge currents in sealed lead acid battery chargers where inserting a meter in line seems to throw the delicate regulator circuit and make measurement impossible. So anything else is a bonus really. One bonus with this meter is the reasonably good sample rate. The other is True RMS.

I'm from Poland and I've bought it for 164 PLN (42,58 USD at the moment) via Aliexpress and I'm very pleased with it so far. It is accurate for a meter this cheap and has many functions that aren't present in even much more expensive meters. Plus it's very handy, its small form makes it an ideal tool for transport.

Hey, it's a standardized way to measure how safe a meter is, in terms of input protection and resistance to catastrophic failure. Generally speaking, the higher the rating, the higher the voltages you can probe safely.

Yeah I talk to a RR worker in the UK who says its similar there with taxes and fees, damn shame. You make a good point on fakes, these days theres nothing that hasnt been hacked faked or somehow scammed. On the meter I was looking for a sub - $20 one for basic use and this one seemed to be a good option. Amazing the functionality and features you can get these days for just a few bucks, but ya do have to really read between the lines and check reviews. I live close to a Harbor Freight here in the US and its a real crapshoot shopping there, I often look at every example of an item on the shelf before selecting one - I like to say their stuff comes in "kit form'-lol-and you have to finish and Q.C. the assembly yourself for best result. There are some hidden jewels at HF but theres a lot of dodgy stuff as well, but lately theyve been upping their game and adding higher end brands with better quality for a bit more money and its working pretty well for them. The HF "Earthquake" air impact wrenches have really taken off as they have decent build quality and Snap-On tool company has taken them to court for daring to compare the two brands - but HF broke no laws and Snap-On lost their case, its been interesting to see their cocky CEO making snyde comments on camera, fact is theyre getting some decent low $$ competition and theyre not liking it--lol. Harbor Freight will never be Snap-On quality but the average guy doesnt need that level of tool, just a decent tool at a price thats not over-inflated. Best Wishes.

  • @SimpleElectronics

    @SimpleElectronics

    5 жыл бұрын

Yeah no problem, the "power supply" is actually a hobby battery charger and it is outputting 2.2 Amps at 11.58 volts to an off-screen battery. The clamp meter is reading 0.561 Amps because the power supply (silver box on the left) is drawing 0.581 Amps from the wall outlet at 120 Volts AC - it is drawing roughly 60 Watts (120v * .5 Amps) so that the charger can deliver roughly 25 Watts (11.5 Volts * 2.2 Amps) to the battery in order to charge it. The meter is reading A/C input, whereas the charger is reading DC output

Interesting you use a $30 meter to test a $50 meter and assume that the $30 can be trusted more as the reference. And yet expect to have to send back the more expensive Uni-T. Price is not an indicator of quality or accuracy but certainly all the brands mentioned have credibility. As indicators all three would seem to be trustworthy. If you'd referenced your readings using the fluke I'd be more inclined to believe your arguments but if you assume that both the $30 meters were made on the same production line and calibrated on the same test rig, it's no surprise they are within a couple of mA ... you have no grounds to assume that two identical meters giving identical results means anything at all with regard to their accuracy. As they stand you could only class them as indicators. Ohms law isn't rocket science - you could so easily have tested round a simple battery and lamp circuit to prove pretty conclusively the accuracy of all the kit. You don't need fancy kit to get acceptable accuracy.

well that's a tough call, I really don't have anything fancy to compare with, but really, a few millivolts/milliamps is nothing for a hobbyist to worry about, nor is it for a professional automotive technician, like me. If I really need to check accuracy ill get a calibrated voltage source and high accuracy resistors and we'll have some fun lol.
