After many years in the industry, Carl Levien decided it was time to go out on his own. The day came, April 1, 1990, when Carl and Beth Levien officially opened Carl’s Mower & Saw. Yes, finally Stihl make chainsaws that looks like more like chainsaws than camels. 😁😁 Got a gap under my 362 and 661, and over my Echo CS-2511WES. Thinking about 231, and I believe a homeowner saw is ok because the 362 is my primary work-horse. But maybe 182 will do the job as well...? It's mostly for cutting branches and smaller tree's with 12" guidebar. What would you recommend?

The MS231 is a nice saw, a bit more power and not much more weight. But if it’s just a branch cutter and small round warrior the MS182 will probably be just fine.

A data port on a homeowner saw? Those extra cooling fins will be needed from running the saws so lean trying to save fuel and emissions. That thing will likely have a short life from running that lean constantly.

Very good observation. If you're in the market for a homeowner saw, the wise choice would be to grab a 170 or 180 before they're replaced by this and the 162.

Doesn't matter what it is. We'd rather have to change the brush cutters. It doesn't matter what it is every single year. No matter how I storage the store, the d*** thing it does not start. You can't just put gas in it. Go out back and get going to work. You gotta spend two hours trying to start the damn thing

Build quality has deteriorated at the same time as over complicating starting mechanism for domestic market. Ms180 a better saw than 182 imo. Generally it's more disposable which is not paradoxically green. The ms 162 bar is a joke. For domestic saws I rate echo and husqavana. For pro saws they are all essentially the same quality.

So why is it every single year? I get my equipment out and it does not start new gas carburetor cleaner carburetor adjustment. Everything every freaking year. I gotta take it to the shop and pay these m. S.A. $100 to start my equipment every year. Dry storage carbon cleanup storage, new gas brand new gas right out of can. The d*** thing doesn't run for more than 2 minutes.

I know it sounds to simple, but you could either store it with premixed canned fuel or try running each of them once a month throughout the winter. Just start em and let them run til they get good and warm. Rev them up and let them idle a bit. I do my string trimmer, leaf blower, and mowers like that. The only one I've had problems out of is the leaf blower, think it's time for a carb rebuild
