With the addition of FM and CTCSS/DCS options you can now enjoy commercial-quality communications. The amount of locals you have, and their desire to deliberately interfere with your communications will determine its usefulness.

@@390WagonMaster Around Pittsburgh, tone encoding would actually be useful because the band is mostly empty. One day I'll hook up the 980 and let it scan. Skip and local truckers during the day (unless Hard Drive is holding court!) and nothing but dead air after sundown.

Anybody interested, this radio puts out close to 60 watts FM. It does around 25 watts AM and SSB. It has a range of 27.076- 28.760 MHZ. Just have to add another final transistor and a short jumper wire for the expended range. After that reset the radio and your all set. The jumper wire and transistor was left out by President, so they could get their FCC type acceptance. Their is a place on the radio to install the missing final transistor and the solder pads are their for the missing jumper wire. See radio reference for more details.

I have the EU expanded version of the G2 - Its the best CB radio I've owned. The Noise cancelation is a game changer. The digi mic works very well. Home based I wind back my RF gain.

Santa came your way lol. Actually for someone who hates digital radios it looks good and some new cobras do as well. I'm also not a fan of not being able to modify it. Long as you like it all that matters. I do like the colors.

No internal adjustments, it is all menu driven.

That radio looks almost like bearcat 980 between 880.

Just my thoughts...dig out a Bearcat 980 and do a side-by-side comparison. The 980 has been around for a relatively long time now, and it's beyond obvious that the President is using the 980 as a starting point. One nice thing about modern radios is that you don't have to have the mike plugged in to listen. If you already have a 980, the President will be instinctive to use. Sure, there are more features, but like the myriad menu options on modern ham rigs you won't need most of them. Vox is foremost of them. I have never used vox on anything because it gets triggered by random noise. SWR protection? Voltage protection? Factory defaults are fine. Same for color and brightness. 980 has a day/night selection but you have to change it manually. Performance. The 980 earned a good reputation for temperature stability on SSB. I can vouch for that. The noise blanker on both radios is worthy of the name, able to take out nasty power line noise. The 980 has a great weather scan and alert feature and we see this carried on. To me, the biggest improvement is the ability to shut the key beep off via the menu, instead of having to remove a chip resistor. The 980's SWR meter is useless. I hope that they have fixed this, along with the S-meter accuracy. Now, the big question: is the President the replacement for the Bearcat, or will a (slightly) rebadged version becomes the new Bearcat 990?

Nice rig. Ya know, my 2970N3 has a built in SWR thingy, but being the radio doesnt have a meter, to me, that renders the function useless, i can key up my rig and get no lights twinkling, i hook up my VNA and it says I have a 1:109 SWR, Go figure!!! Pppfffttt!🤣👍

The are all manufactured by Uniden Corp.

I’m wondering if it will be amicable to widening out the transmit/receive bandwidth & audio cap changes or if it’s gonna be like the 880/980 and not respond well to those changes. Also,Merry Christmas Mike. Hope you & yours had a good holiday.

My cb tech said when he peak tune my new 980 last month ask him about receive increase. He said no adjustments for it. And if there was . Like old cb. Not much of. A. Increase

I talked to Screwdriver at Bells CB Shop the other day, and he pretty much told me the same thing. I’m starting to lean toward the George after hearing that.

Hi, my brand new George 2 came with ONE of the warranty seals broken. On the other side it is intact. Bought from a third party online shop (no President dealer). Should I return it?

@@istvanszabo3275 well I don’t know what to tell you. I would write down who you talked to and the date. Maybe in the manual. Did you get it directly from president or a dealer? If it was a dealer call them and see what they say about it. On the other hand if the radio works well and all modes and functions work then after doing as above, then I wouldn’t sweat it.

Uniden 980 is total junk, Have one that still works but display has failed so cannot adjust anything on it. This radio looks the same, terrible displays.

If the radio got FM you can use ctcss enc Dec on FM mode block all noise but s kind useless without more than 40 channels . The noise will block signals your receiving in day time with all separation coming in from other states in order for FM to be if use you need quiet channels off the 40 standard

Sorry Wagonmaster, MUCH Too Much crap and not enough of what you need! When driving RF Gain needs to be on a knob! When driving interstate I would NEVER buy a radio that would take my eyes off the road to work the RF Gain every time I passed a big truck. Same with the Clarifier. When I get into a wreck and kill some one trying to work buttons while driving President needs to be sued. They should recall this radio and take it off the market.

I drive a International LT 620. I currently run a AT Q5Nii, I have no issues blindly running my radio while dealing with typical morons on the road. My goodness, maybe ya shouldn't drive at all? Sue a radio manufacturer for your judgment call on using your radio, taking a drink , or even hands free options while driving..... 351 N Colorado.

HI Jeremy, I am retired and the only thing I pull now is a travel trailer. How do you like the 5555? I am not real familiar with the AT's I have a 6666 that was given to me (NIB) that I am considering installing on a Bullet Point dash well mount. It would be a crappy set up leaving the radio exposed to direct sunlight. Apparently that is one of the few mounting options for the newer GM/Chevrolet Pickups that is doable. Unfortunately there is Zero room under the dash for a decent radio (the console goes all the way to the dash). Wagonmaster knows me very well. We have both been on the air for over a half a century. I'm sure after his evaluation even he would not make the George his go to radio. My current go to radio is also somewhat complex, but it is real easy to use. It can be made to do what you want it to, like having a working clarifier when working sideband and an actual RF gain knob for when you are on top of a powerful signal, it is an N4. @@jeremynottingham6277

@arlenewolf5260 copy that, I've had the atq6, atq5 v6 which I think is called the at q5 plus? I really enjoy the at q5 nii. It has the noise reduction feature like a small DSP. Of course the size in of these radios don't jive well with today's autos!! Somebody ( president radios) needs to make a detachable face plate/ remote mount radio. Like a icom 706.

HI 390, you are totally correct. Unfortunately the mounting locations on my new PK totally suck. I ordered a remote (all in the mic) set up for the Motorola DMR 70cm radio. I am considering one of the all in the mic set ups for a GMRS radio I just commented to Jeremy that I might need to install a dash well mount on the truck.@@390WagonMaster
