I was impressed by the fact that, like most tourists who come to Korea, the tours did not take place in cities such as Seoul or Busan, but rather focused on rural areas close to nature on the outskirts. This is a good video that shows another side of Korea.

I enjoyed staying in South Korea on and off around 2010. I found it usable to understand the basics of Korean writing, but never got to a level where I could read and understand. I was able to find the titles of English films at the cinema schedule, by decoding the sounds. I was able to greet Korean colleagues, even if their name tag was only in Korean. I was able to order food by name, looking at pictures, even if I didn't understand. But because English was the business language between colleagues, I never learned many words.

South Korea 🇰🇷 is amazing, I was there on vacation in July 2023. --- The road side stations are huge indeed. I also agree how kind and nice are the people. Almost everywhere we went in Korea, and we ravelled 2000 km in 2 weeks, people were giving us extra water or fruit or sweets for free. I am sorry to see you were not able to visit the bamboo forest. It is otherworldly. I recommend it to anyone passing by if they can visit.

I remember preferring to live close to the worksite when I was at 거제시, while some coworkers had stronger preferences on where to stay, but spent spent quite a bit of time in traffic ever day. I enjoyed my time there, but never got to learn the language, except some very basic understanding of sounds for 한글. Just enough to find the time English movies at the schedule, and guess the name of a dish at a restaurant, even if I didn't know what it was. Those crawling creatures are called 갯강구(get gang goo) aka sea roach, which is not an insect but far relative of a crab or prawn. They are not harmful and sometimes fishermen use them as bait. They are cleaners of the beach. It is said that they are edible but the taste is awful and nobody eats them.

경남 통영을 추천 합니다 , 날씨 좋은 날 시간되시면 "꼭" 가보세요. 이제 겨울이라 아쉽군요.

32:24 Since Korea's highways and national roads are very dense and have many detours, this is an electronic sign that tells you to detour to a place with less traffic. All roads are green, so you can take any road.

I know what you mean about the ocean Marianne, I grew up near Whitby and the beach has always been my favourite place. I live in Portugal now and there is a little quiet beach I go to all summer, it is like a little paradise and I always get everything in perspective when I go there.

Whitby is MAGNIFICENT (same applies to York) but Korea, with it's friendly people as seen in these videos, is shown to be a good place to visit.

I guess you had to be somewhere in August. But, yeah, to all others, don't tour South Korea in August. Right from heat wave to monsoon rains.
