5:00 nailed it. That was the moment he retired from tryna be the best and started setting up for post career. They offered him a big enough number and he took it to his detriment.

Do you really think Volk is motivated by money??? I just don’t agree. Sure it was short notice but after the first Islam fight when people were saying he won and he might’ve even thought it, or if not thought he won saw that he was able to hang with Islam I think he saw it as a legacy defining moment.

The Islam vs Alex story turned out to be somewhat like Marciano's two fights with Walcott but only this time Alex continued on unlike Walcott who retired immediately and fought someone who was to him what Strickland turned out to be for Adesanya when it comes to a certain difficult style matchup. Should have wrestled and not made it a striking battle considering how early he returned after a bad loss. Whittaker vs Costa reminded me somewhat of Holmes vs Shavers where Costa's left kicks and Whittaker's left jab had to settle the score.

Was very impressed with Costa and his kicks in particular. It's a shame he has been largely inactive the past couple years. I imagine he could have developed more as a fighter otherwise. But credit to Whitaker for taking that damage, holding on and remaining focused to get the win. I think he needed it at this point in his trajectory.

Measuring with his left was a smart thing, most people would’ve just started winging shots then and there. The increments of getting on the inside were nice too, straight right to a left hook to the body and just missed the right hook to the head. Almost stepped over himself but still great

I wouldn't worry about Volk's "legacy", because there is no such thing as legacy, it only lasts for a decade or two..In a hundred years no one will know any of us lived including Volk..The wealth he can generate can last his family several generations..It's just the cold hard truth..We want to remember our favorite fighters in a certain light, but there are other more important considerations..Heck, I would be extremely surprised if our world wide civilization is still in tact in 25 to 50 years, let alone the UFC or any fighters legacy..What fighters can we name from a hundred years ago, who they fought, what kind of person they were, or anything else about them.

@@Popsiclestand86 Ya, I know who Jack Dempsey was, but do you know who he fought, what his record was, or anything else about the guy, was he a good guy, did he fight in the war, how many kids did he have..NO..Because it is irrelevant now, he's just a name..Mentioned doesn't mean they are important, no one discusses Jack Dempsey's fights..Who would know or care if he got KO'd a few times at the end of his career..It's just silly..And like I said, our culture is going away anyhow..In a hundred years from now, NO ONE will know the UFC ever existed..Maybe a few people in their late 80's or 90's..

@@anthonygrizzly6924It's weird for me....I'm a hardcore boxing fan since I was a little kid and saw Holmes vs. Cooney with my dad. But I always loved martial arts, and have a black belt in karate, and fought in tournamentsI....loved all of that. Then in the 80s I'd watch kickboxing on ESPN but it was obviously never as good as boxing bc of the talent pool, but I enjoyed it. I just think that boxing is so basic, its simplicity is its beauty and thrill. But when UFC first came out, I was in college and we LOVED it. It was insane and a bit of a freak show and we just couldn't get enough. Then it became the modern MMA and I just lost interest. I noticed that even when watching a 2 pure strikers go at it in the Octagon, I'm just not that into it and I can't even figure out why, as it's like a violent form of boxing. Occasionally I'll be interested in a big fight, but as a whole, I just don't have interest. It's dad that the boxing biz is in such shambles but boxing did it to itself. Sometimes I fear boxing will be all but dead in 5-10 years.
