As I mentioned in another post, the Lopez Ortiz fight took place in Vegas where points are rewarded for aggression, especially in a fight where one boxer is mostly on the backfoot. This is to ensure that spectators get what they paid for and needs to be taken into account when questioning the scorecards.

Lopez v Ortiz was a truly awful fight. However, as Teddy said, Ortiz had the right to fight any type of contest he wanted. He's under no obligation to fight in the way his opponent wants. That's not how sport works. The Compubox numbers (which are not infallible) showed how to difficult it was to score a fight where so few meaningful punches landed. For what it's worth, and it's worth nothing really, I scored it 7-5 to Lopez. But I recognise that a wide variety of scores are possible.

I had the fight a draw. Ortiz controlled the fight with his legs but when he made teo punch air he needed to counter, to score at the time. Teo didn’t adapt, didn’t cut off the ring, kept swinging at ortiz’s head rather than the body. I thought the punches were very equal, ortiz controlled the fight and teo had the aggression. That’s why i had the fight a draw. But ortiz even with a draw, would’ve paid a price for running, he would’ve lost money value negotiation for his next fights for not being fan friendly.

The difference between Lopez vs Ortiz and Shakur vs De Los Santos and Fury vs Klitschko is Shakur and Fury used their boxing skills and movement to outland their opponents by a comfortable margin(65 to 40 for Shakur, 86 to 52 for Fury). Ortiz was not able to do that. For Lopez vs Ortiz, in 8 rounds they landed within 1 punch of each other, in 2 rounds Ortiz landed more, and in 2 rounds Lopez landed more. Final punches landed were 80 for Ortiz and 78 for Lopez, basically a draw. So the question is, how do you score the rounds when the punches landed are equal? Do you give them to the guy that does the better boxing and shows more impressive skills or the guy who is more aggressive and presses the action more and pushes the other guy back?

I can’t believe yall don’t see it. Teofimo’s team are genius. They have big fights in their future (Tank, Haney, Shakur), they are not exposing all their tricks. Teo found a working level of fighting where as long as he’s on the offense he should score the easy win. He smoked his last opponent, superior opposion, Josh Taylor, remember.

Teofimo beat Ortiz and it shouldn't even be an argument anymore. Annoying watching fighters fighting like Floyd with all the running. Even in MMA; the lame judges have slowly stopped looking at clinch control and ground control in some fights if it's not any activity. Alex is going to give Illia a big lesson I think in being real and not delusional, but it's hilarious...

Big difference though because Floyd was so skilled that he was just way more effective at being elusive.. not "running".. In actuality he displayed superior defense due to his high ring I.Q. and super sharp reflexes. He had a couple fights in which he was too conservative, however it's massively dramatized because he also made really good fighters such as Gatti, Canelo, and many others look like slow, confused amateurs. 🥊

If that was Floyd he would have been clowned for years over that performance, Ortiz had a decent 5-6 rounds and then basically did nothing but run for the rest of the fight. Floyd never fought like that, he’d stay in the pocket, make you miss and make you pay. All Ortiz did was make teo miss, that’s not going to win you a championship fight.

Look, let’s be honest Jermaine Ortiz did not throw enough punches and he was punching backwards. That’s a problem especially with the champion he didn’t hurt him. He didn’t knock him out. He did knock him down, so yes you have to give it to the Champ. It sucks cause everybody wanted to competitive fight, but Ortiz didn’t wanna go to. That’s a fact so answer the next.

This new era is what's killing boxing. Its BOXING not fencing. These casual fans dont understand the art. If you want a guy like Jermaine Ortiz then take off the boxing gloves because its not needed whatsoever according to the fan boys. Maybe you people should look up the definition of boxing. Nothing wrong with defense but boxers need to engage. Fighting like that is exactly why he lost. How can people consider it boxing? If the opponent isnt engaging. This is ridiculous. I see why UFC is receiving better ratings while boxing is rated at #14. Jermaine Ortiz style is definitely killing the sport. They bash Shakur Stevenson and praise Jermaine Ortiz. The irony

Holy, so now Keyshawn Davis and spectators who watched his fight on Saturday are not allowed to fully acknowledge his win or think it was good all because we have to pretend Teofimo is next level talent and we need to "hold our horses" and first see if Teofimo is the next big thing, he just needs 10 more fights to impress us. These guys are all embarrassing themselves lately, why you are all playing damage control for one fighters who is clearly mentally unstable and so clearly not the fighter you make him out to be. Why?? why are you all ruining your credibility for Teofimo Lopez??

Anyone who says Lopez vs Ortiz was an awful fight should stop following boxing and become an MMA Fan. Period, end of story. You dont know boxing and you dont get boxing. EQUALLY, If you thought for any reason Lopez won the fight, turn in your fan card and stop watching boxing. Or at least commenting on it other than to your pets at home. This was a very compelling fight if you understand what happened that night. I don't agree with everything Teddy says, but he's usually very close to the pin in my book. And he nails it here. It was compelling because you have one guy who has a chance to beat a guy with better power by outboxing him. By staying discipline. By taking away the other more powerful man's chance to win by not engaging too long, by forcing him to fight on your terms for 12 rounds. THAT was compelling the entire time! Because you knew (or should have) that if Ortiz slipped up at any time Lopez could have caught him and turned the fight around. Lopez on the other hand was frustrated, confused, looked like an amateur, never imposed his style on Ortiz. Lopez's best shot was a headbutt, which looked very intentional to me and affected Ortiz in the second half of the fight. And to add further, this was NOT a fight that could have gone the other way. The action was limited but Ortiz clearly won round after round. Complete BS to say "oh well, there were close rounds, so I can see Lopez winning". HECK NO! If you gave Lopez at the very most more than 4 rounds, give up boxing. Go watch MMA which is more exciting but much less involved in technique and skill. Ortiz put on an absolute exhibition. and got robbed. This sport is too demanding, guys give up something of themselves every time they enter the ring. A bad decision in basketball is not the same as Boxing. This is disgusting. Has been a part of the game forever I know. But still turns my stomach. But even more disgusting is hearing people cheering this on because Ortiz was "not exciting" or "ran" or any other stupid reason put up by those who dont understand what boxing is! Thank you Teddy and thank you Tim Bradley for speaking sense!

The first 6 rounds you can say that Ortiz boxed ok but the last half of the fight he ran too much and didn't counter at all. So Teddy Ortiz didn't fight the same the whole 12 rounds the same. Ortiz did not deserve a win with this fight. Why do I say this? Because he didn't throw enough along with his running. They don't want to reward a guy with a win for fighting that way because it isn't fighting to run the whole entire time without throwing anything back. The first 4 rounds he did what he should have but after that Ortiz ran without throwing anything himself. The reason you cannot reward someone with a win for a fight like this is that people will start to fight like Ortiz did all of the time and I guarantee if all boxing fights looked like this no one would watch and that isn't what the boxing networks want. This fight was crap. Yes Teofimo should have cut off the ring a lot better but Ortiz screwed up he had the fight in the bag with what he was doing in the first 4 rounds. But when the fight progressed Ortiz ran more and engaged a lot less and threw a lot less counters. Ortiz should kick himself because he could have won if he kept doing what he was doing and not let up. So obviously the body shots Lopez landed did something to make Ortiz not want to counter Lopez the last half of the fight. Like I said if Ortiz won with this crapoy performance then they would be rewarding such crapoy performances then those crapoy fights would happen more and more.
