I definitely agree that having rich friends growing up as a poor person gives you slightly more opportunities if you take advantage of them correctly. I’m talking about using the connections you are afforded, but that only happens if you mean something to the family or are talented in some way. I was the former and latter, fortunately. He is still my best friend to this day, but I appreciate his family almost as much as my own. They took me in as one of their own. This world is really all about who you know… kind of a blurred ethics lesson to your kids, but it’s really true.

Sadly and kind of unsurprisingly the world is that way. Mankind became the most dominant species due to their social structure, so it makes sense that having connections is still the prevailing feature that gets you far... I wish I had received that memo a bit earlier... 🙄

There are studies going back to the 70s that paired children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with mentors from the upper middle class, and it significantly affected how they interacted with people; they became more confident, they understood social in-speak, they knew which fork to use, what to wear: things you don't think should matter that absolutely do matter if you want to succeed.

because they were hopeful and was optimistic about the future, so were the chinese unless you are here to demonize them somehow they can't be what we can be. Everyone is critic of things in hindsight but only if you had an almanac you could be a billionaire, yea ppl back then didn't know what is going to happen just like you don't know what the world is gonna look like 30 years later either. If older ppl aren't surprised it's not because they expected, it's because they've seen enough to accept there could be multiple outcome but that doesn't mean the world isn't gonna keep churning and ppl will still have to keep trying and keep walking one step at a time
