Two Notes Wall of Sound V4 In-Depth Review: I Should've Used This Sooner

Музыка

Today in Plague Scythe Studios, I give Two Note's guitar production software a fair shake at long last, showing how I use Wall of Sound to it's fullest capability to bring direct recordings to life!

    The huge advantage to use this pluging, over any hardware, is the possibility to change any parameter AFTER recording your track. I have just started to record my tracks with WoS and this ability to change whatever from the cab, mic type and position... during the mix is awesome. I never see that raised in WoS comments, but it’s the maint point to me.

    I record a DI alongside my amp and cab into my DAW so later if I want to reamp I can use amp sims and ir's with the DI. I can also send the DI signal back out with a reamp box to reamp using hardware.

    They offer it currently for free with 2 cabinets with a lifetime license as a stay at home action. I tried it out in mixing solely for using all those microphone and amp options to use it as a saturation system and man this alone is totally dope and legitly convincing. Great great software.

    @Plague Scythe Studios Hi, thank you for this useful video! I'm using WoS in GarageBand with a Focusrite Scarlett. Although the input level is correctly set on the interface, I always have to lower significantly (about 12dB) the input gain in WoS to avoid any saturation. Do you know the reason for such a difference between the input levels in GarageBand and in WoS? Thanks!

    I use WoS sometimes too, but note that some plugs such as the Reaxis you used in demonstration can be used soley as power amp sims too by shutting off the preamp and cab sims within their associated GUIs. The presence control of the power amp section in Reaxis seems to act more like a presence control should to boot although it does not have a depth control. Just a thought for additional optionality.

    Great demo and explanation. I have the two notes torpedo cab pedal, which is a one cab hardware version, funny thing is that I ended up just using ownhammer and celestion’s 3rd party impulses in It instead of the ones It came with, they sound better to me. To me the power amp emulation is a bit underwhelming, the ignite TPA in my opinion runs circles around this. The ownhammer and celestion impulses actually sound better without the PA activated on my cab pedal....I have used amt preamp pedals to a ds1 boosted by an sd1....my biggest complaint about WoS is that it’s super cpu taxing, if ur using preamp plugins....I like it, still use ignite more though

    I use plug ins sparingly. I haven't experimented with the wall of sound software yet. I try to capture sounds they way I want them without any plugs except for EQ or compression to have things fit in the mix. I am considering the Torpedo Can M as a hardware option with my Torpedo Captor.

    Cool brother, tell me… when you use the captor with a head for recording how do you deal with the latency introduced when putting WoS plugin on the recording strip? Cheers from London, England UK 🇬🇧😊🇬🇧

    I have a Schecter 8 string, a Peavey 5150 II that I run through a Two Notes Captor loadbox, into my UMC Behringer USB interface. The amp sound on its own is fine, but as soon as I run IR's or Wall of Sound on any cab, even the dedicated metal ones, the gtrs sound boxy, 2dimensional and flat and lack that dynamism everyone else seems to be getting. What's wrong ?

  • @PlagueScytheStudios

    @PlagueScytheStudios

    Are you running the direct 1/4" line out of the Captor to the interface, or the XLR with cab simulation? If you're using the latter, you're double stacking cab sounds which would sound horrible.

    I remember being pretty pumped for Wall of sound when Glenn covered it for the first time a while back, but never really felt like i got good tones from it (mainly because I wasnt skilled in audio at all, really, and i wasnt really doing any serious mixing at the time).Had it with a Torpedo Live, which i ended up selling since i never used it (kind of regret it now) But i just picked up the Captor 16 since my roommate and I got a blue voodoo, definitely want to give Wall of Sound another shot, particularly with some of the licensed celestion IR's. After Kohlekeller did the video showing off the Celestion Blue's I really want to try using that sound in metal. and since they're $300 bucks a pop, guess I will try using IR's for now.

    Yes, you can, and you can use every other section of the plugin (like power amp tubes, EQ, exciter,..)! You just have to tick the "User" option in the cab selector section, then select the user IR folder on your computer, then you can browse and select your IRs too.

    Linked mode's on. Turn it off and it'll show both cabs in arcade mode. The switch is located within the input module A, which is the second module going from the top down. The option is used for tweaking two cabs at the same time using the same parameters for both.

    I find other musicians tremendously annoying, especially ones with KZread channels who do shit like this, and on top of that, other metalheads. But I pulled this up because I wanted to see how others were using it. And I gotta say, you're pretty awesome, homie. Keep it nice and straightforward. Also, great riffing for the demonstration. I got a captor and this software and at first, was kinda put off by all the options, but it's growing on me. Interesting re: the power amp emulation and how critical that is to a realistic sound, I had not thought of that previously. But it makes a lot of sense. Anyway, great work and way to not be annoying.
