Музыка
The new Two Notes Torpedo Captor X is an amp top reactive load/virtual cabinet like the Universal Audio Ox Box...So how do they compare?

😎 BTW, as strictly an IR loader, no FX, which one sounds better? How about as an attenuator? No FX.. Thanks.

Your IR's are too expensive. Individual cabinets/speaker typically retail for $8 each. Just sayin'... Perhaps, a 50% off discount code? Just askin'... ;-) Good luck!

The opening jam was superb! I think it right off the bat shows the justice and capabilities of the Captor X, and I do agree with what you say, being that as long as you like what you play, that's all that matters. Cheers!

Honestly like all the other videos didn’t help me much.
I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and say that the opening jam is one of my favorites you've done. I'd be thrilled to hear a full track if you decide to do more with it
Rhett my guy... you don’t have to go so hard on those opening tracks my guy!!! You’re gonna melt someone’s face off 😂
I was shocked to learn that it only requires power for the virtual cabs and IRs. Even when it’s not plugged in, it still functions as a load box and attenuator for your amp and cabinet. That’s pretty handy. My amp already has an XLR output that I send to the DI, so I don’t have to worry about powering the Captor X on every time, unless I need the virtual cab/IR feature. The load box and attenuator are just always there working in the background, even when I forget to power it on. Very cool.
This is one of the finest product reviews I’ve ever seen on KZread. And for me personally, very timely as I am considering purchasing this piece of equipment.
I was going to say how much I loved the intro and realised that half of the comments are the same. Makes sense, what a GREAT intro man
Bro, your intros are getting better and better. Been following for about a year, and I’ve seriously seen some growth! Love it
Hi Rhett, it's great to a have full and honest reviews about products. It definitely help us to make choices.
The last video’s opening made me say, “DAMN, Rhett is frickin rocking out!!!”. But THIS video was ALSO rocking, but with many layers of it. So good!! And also....ALSO....the editing made your playing VERY exciting. The editing was so on point. Can’t help but wonder how your cd will sound, whenever you get around to it.
When the slide part hits in half time. Epic opening track
Where has this Rhett been? Bring out the riff rock/punk!!! I'm jamming making dinner for the kids 😆
Rhett, thank you so much for these videos and reviews. The tips and knowledge I get from these video's is invaluable.
Great video, as always, Rhett! Your slide riffing on the Rivolta was absolutely stellar! I own the OX and I use it constantly, I love it so much. But I think you hit the nail on the head with this. The Captor X is such a great value with comparable features (in some ways, more features) to the ox.
This sounds HUGE!!! Dude ya got the most vibin' sounding clips on KZread for these sortsa videos by FAR!!!!
still learning more about these types of devices, but I've loved all your vids so far. Very informative, and quite helpful!
I’ve been watching so many videos to really understand what it does…. Yours is so clear and dummy proof :) thanks a lot

Hi, but with the ox, everyone says there is a problem with connecting and it's a bit disturbing, isn't it? I want to know already what to decide to buy for recording in the studio not for performances outside. Just for the studio. Then I noticed that there were problems with the ox connecting. So I can't decide anymore. Maybe someone can give me some good advice. Thank you
Just wanna say, I bought one because of this video - and that alone has inspired me to finally do a full album whilst isolating before Christmas in order to safely see family!

Can't wait for your solo album! the guitars on the opening track are IMMENSE
JUST the video I was looking for!! Thanks Rhett!! And, that opening jam was scorching hot!!!
ok that was one of the best openings you've ever done
Love Your Playing! Inspiring. When I need a boost I just watch one of your videos and I'm creative again. Thanks brother. Rock on!!!
Killer video, I’m really liking everything you put out, I appreciate all the great contact!!!
That little slide jam at 8:00 was breathtaking dude...the resolution at the end was beautiful. Sounds killer too.
That tune at the top was awesome!! I'm really interested in the CaptorX. This video taught me more about it. Thanks!
Nice writing on your intro! It’s been a pleasure to watch you evolve and improve as you keep going. OMG could have been a Fuzz demo (did I hear the supreme?)! Loved it!!!!!
Loving the sounds & playing man! That intro was majestic
Thanks so much for that review - and what a great intro jam! It's exactly the kind of review I was looking for. I understand the Ox Box might be a bit better, but given how I want to use them (and I currently have the Captor 8 running into a IR/cab sim pedal), I will go for the Captor X
Rhett, informative video as always. 2 tangential thoughts: 1. I’d love to hear an album of instrumental songs of yours along the lines of your intro tune in this video; 2. Your studio gear seems to have grown exponentially in size, range and quality over the last year or so - congratulations!
This Jam was amazing! Can't wait for your album
Dude that opening track is the first song I'd hear of a band of which I'd be instantly hooked, amazing work!
I just ordered the captor x, partly based on this review. Thanks, appreciate your time and wisdom.
Wow... I think that was the best opening jam of all the guitar tubers I follow. Superb Rhett!
Thank you for your honest observations. Your delivery is always on point, and the beauty part of it is that you keep true to yourself. It is hard to express on something honestly when that thing is sent to you for free but I think you did it flawlessly without offending the sender by telling the truth. I hope you will stay this way. And like others have mentioned, that opening track is simply awesome!
My procrastination has finally paid off. I've been planning on OX for a while. thinking seriously about Captor X I think it will absolutely get me where I need in my home studio and Whenever gigging begins again it will make life much easier. thanks Rhett and killer track today.
Rhett, thanks for the video! I have been researching both these units for my home studio and you cleared up a lot of the questions I had, thanks again! B
I'm glad you mentioned the issues with the Ox app, I have been having such a hard time with it I am considering returning the unit...
I’m glad you did this because I’m a huge metal guy. I love to chug my face off. There’s tons of metal guys demoing this thing so I know it works for that… but I also love and write a lot of clean and mid-gain stuff so hearing how good this thing sounds doing what you do, has got me REALLY excited.
Oh man please rock out more Rhett. That intro was savage AF.
WOW...great changes in that opening song...the slide was perfect.
Thanks, this video and the video on how to make the Helix sound better video helped me finalize my decision on the Captor X. Just ordered mine today.
This was your best opening jam to date. Awesome stuff.
Hi Rhett - great video. I ended up buying one and love it. One thing i think you may have missed in your video was to mention the Ohms. I ordered ma 16 ohms version and then realised my old tube amp ( 1967 Fender Stageman ) is 8 ohms after ui ordered it. The shop was able to switch my order and i returned the 16 and they sent me a 8 ohms but perhaps worth mentioning. Keep up the great work man - love your channel!
A full version of that opening track would awesome. Great tune and tone 👌🏻
Nice vid Rhett, great intro!, one thing no-one ever considers (or cares) about is build quality, I primarily repair backline gear for a living and often the internal design, component and assembly quality is where the $$ is, loads of gear nowadays looks great until you open it up. I own an OX and it's incredibly well built, inside and out, love your vids man 🤘
Killer opening Rhett! Love everything you put out!
Outstanding demo! Great playing! Thanks for sharing!
Best demo on this yet! I am waiting for mine to show up, but after watching this, I definitely made a good decision buying this thing :-) Can’t wait to get it!
Another fabulous clip from Rhett. I really appreciate the content. These ~20 min videos are just the right length to maintain interest & get the main points across without getting lost in the weeds. I also have gotten bored with the nonsensical comedic distractions that so many other KZreadrs are incorporating these days. It seems to have gone way over the top & is often very distracting. Please keep doing what you do, as it really works!
Killer editing over the opener Rhett!

Thanks Keith!
Love the music first, and talk afterwards. I own a Captor regular 8ohm version, and use it for silent recording of my tube amps at home. The version I have does not have IRs, so its more barebones, but I add IRs in the DAW, and it sounds and works well, also with pedals in the chain. I did consider the UA OX, but I didn't want to pay for the limitations also mentioned in this video, and the wifi issues in the software is an absolute dealbreaker. Id rather go for the Boss Tube Amp Expander then. But the Two Notes gear is great, and I will keep using my Captor for quite some time. Its built like a rock!
Great video! Thanks for being clear with which one you think sounds better.
Thanks Rhett! Killer opening tune as mentioned. Regarding gigging, I had two prototypes that I was able to gig with from Jan- March, before the world was shut down. Here's my BIG takeaway. It was so light and compact- literally carried it in my gig bag. It made load in/ out a breeze.
Far out Rhett thanks man. As the others are also commenting super inspiring and emotional guitar play, wow!
I pre-ordered a while back. I’m so excited! Great video!
You can bypass the cabinet and use Impulse Response loaded in your DAW with the OX by choosing Direct for both Mic in the OX App
Great review !! I just pulled the trig @ sweetwater on the Cap X - Now I have even more confidence I went the right way !! Thanks Rhett! BTW nice playing too and smooth Chicago Music Exchange shoutout! My man Phil in their shop does work on my axes, he's the best !!
Already ordered my Captor X ....waiting for delivery!!! Can't wait!!!
Ok man that opening track is outstanding. Well done on all aspects of that.
I live in an apartment and have been thinking eyeing an Ox, but oh man, the $1200 bucks hurts to think about -- this Captor X unit might be the answer! Thanks for another great video, Rhett!
THAT INTRO IS BY FAR YOUR BEST RECORDING I'VE HEARD TO DATE
opening jam was GREAT, Rhett
Been using a Torpedo reload in house for a number of years. totally love it .
Thanks for mentioning the headphone functionality. It's one of the main reasons that I wish to purchase one of these and no one else has seemed to address this feature.
Great job Rhett! That double tracker on those slide parts is 🔥🔥🔥 Also my Firebird GAS is level 💯
"So cover me up and know you're enough to use me for good"...Great playing all around Rhett!
I just rewatched this before ordering my Captor X - thanks. And, that opening song kicks ass.
I bought this as soon as it came out. I personally love it but I 100% agree with you on the reverbs in it it sounding the very best out there and I do hope they fix that they eventually with firmware updates. Also, you didn’t really go into the double-tracking feature which is magic! Very important thing.
some of the best guitar sounds I've ever heard on youtube.
I've watched a couple videos on this product and yours was by far the best in that you explained a lot of things that the other videos assumed I knew (which I didn't). I'm just a hobbyist guitarist. I'm looking at this product specifically for playing an amp with headphones one that isn't some cheapy amp like a micro terror or a THR5. Great job and great playing!
My Captor should arrive today. Thanks for your insight 🙏🎸🎶🎼
Ordered one last week. Shipping on Friday! Like your channel
Yes for me , especially for the attenuation and whole package possibility , thanks for the vid .
Enjoyed the "intro" so much that this is like the 4th or 5th view.... reminds me of "PLAY" D. Grohl. Most of the comments seem VERY pumped about the groove you found. It's next level!
Rhett this intro song is intense!!!! Love it man!!
Delivering the ROCK on the intro- favorite tone was the solo- screamin!
Best rockin’ jam ever on your channel! Thanks!
Dude, your studio is getting stacked! You are correct with the audio quality of the OX over the Captor X. If I hadn’t just bought a Strymon Iridium, I would probably pick up the Captor X. It checks off a few boxes.
Now for the next shootout. Captor X vs Suhr reactive load IR. Someone needs to do that video.
@Badha78

Stephen Naveed Suhr reactive load IR WINS. Its more natural than torpedos.
@StephenNaveed
4 жыл бұрын
Antonio Pereira that’s kinda what I hear. I think suhr has a better reactive load. But it’s nice to be able to adjust mic placement and distance. I’ve been kicking around getting the suhr reactive load IR and connect a Cab M thru the one DI out. Be able to mix and match with a solid reactive load. I’m mainly looking for a recording tool. Not for live shows.
@jps.76
4 жыл бұрын
Stephen Naveed I’ve owned and tried them all including this new captor x. While they all have some individual strengths the best I’ve used and still continue to own is the boss Waza tube amp expander. The selective active load makes all the difference and works better with all my amps. It’s in the response and feel that all the others seem to lack or feel off. I will agree the suhr reactive load ir is next best, but lacks a lot of features the boss TAE has. Being able to add an effects loop after the amp with the boss TAE is just killer! It suits studio and live the best I’ve found and why I chose to keep it over all the others. My issue with this captor x is the reactive load doesn’t feel natural with about half my amps and the software is just over bloated. Although getting a good time can be found using it, I just find it takes longer and there’s more futting around to get there. The attenuate also is poop on the captor x. The click steps as this dude says isn’t great. Again boss TAE takes cake with fully linear attenuate pot with a full sweep.

I was just looking at one of these the other day! Super rad intro jam!
Where I could see this excelling is at the heart of a "fly rig" with a good amp sim/multi effects unit for when you need a compact, yet full sounding rig.
Thanks for the review Rhett. Hope you get out on the road soon.
Rhett that opening jam is ridiculously great
Great review Rhett - appreciate the perspective
Damn that Lester/ Hiwatt combo sounded rich. Killer track dude!
Very thorough rundown (and badass playing!) thx!🇨🇦
Dude, you killed that intro
Hey T...great vid as always We have three studios and we swear by the Ox. We have one in each studio.the clarity and translating the bloom of the tube amp. The playing experience truly connects the player with the amp just as if the guitar its plugged directly into the head. We tried the waza and everybody agreed the sound was substandard and the resonance and presence switches changed thing very little. The waza software is terrible and you must connect to you computer usb to do anything. There is no wireless option/ The Captor X has an excellent app to control everything from your phone. The Captor x is better sounding than the Waza in our opinion . It’s closer to the Ox but not that close. The captor x requires a lot of fiddling and tweaking to get an acceptable sound. But that said you can get a rewarding sound if you spend the time. Clean and crunch sounds sound pretty darn good. When we output a Plexi or JCM 800 the Captor needs a lot of. Eq twiddling. That said if you spend the time you can get much closer to the Ox and we really like the noise gate it has a learning function for quick setup. The twin tracker is useful and with some adjustments it can sound massive. The reverbs are not good or usable...we end up using a Strymon in the loop to get good results. With our years of practice and playing professionally we will spend the extra money to be able perform with the best sound equipment available. The ox is fantastic and we love it, but for the price and portability the Captor X is a blast!

I agree... I've been using two notes live for years and just recently purchased 3rd party Irs from celestion. I can't believe how much more big and natural sounding the celestion ir's sound compared to the two notes ir's. I can't believe what I've been missing all these years. I've now fallen down the IR rabbit hole but virtually every third party company IR I've tried is substantially better than Two Notes. That's disappointing considering I thought they were a leader in the industry. I've also experienced the same substandard sounds in my daw when running their wall of sound when compared to using a different third party IR loader. In my experience, Two Notes hardware and software does something to the sound that gives it a thin, compressed, and very digital sound, especially when compared to others.

Mine is coming in a few days, going to use it in conjunction with the Ocean Wave studio plugin in UA
Beautiful arrangement of Cover Me Up, Rhett. I have both the Ox and the Boss tube amp expander, and I find I gravitate towards the boss in my studio. Maybe they’ll send you one to review? I know I’d never gig with either because of the size and weight, and having an extra piece of gear to worry about. But if I did, the wall wart issue is annoying. The boss has an IEC cable, and I believe it’s worldwide universal. I would definitely want this from a piece of live gear. The other feature that seems like a no-brainer would be to have stereo capability. It wouldn’t need to have another load or attenuator, just a guitar-level input to take the R-side output from a stereo effect on my board, like the H9. If torpedo would add these two features I could definitely see this on top of a tube amp at a gig.
Best opening yet! Keep it up!
Jesus, whatever tone you come up with sounds amazing.
You can put hundreds of IR's on Captor X. Just need to set the length to 20ms, which is plenty long enough to make it sound good. This confused me too at 1st because the default IR length in captor is 500ms from memory. Problem solves. Awesome bit of kit, really well thought out and sounds great.
