    I absolutely dig that song that opens this video-- you totally nailed KISS' early career sound-- especially that twin lead harmony. It brings me back to listening to Dressed To Kill as a kid. Great video. I love Two Notes products. I have the Torpedo Reload and am considering the Captor X on how impressive the Twin Tracker "Doubler" function is. It is probably one of the best double tracked effects I have ever heard. If this the Captor X would have been released a couple of years back, I would have chosen it over the Reload, since it is a fraction of the size for a lot of similar features.Thanks for the great video!

    I just bought one for my mesa single rec. Yet to try it out. But, what I’m really getting from your video, is I can get an excellent clone of my usual rock tones through a 4x12 v30 Marshall cab. But, I can also get the amp to sound totally different with different boxes and microphones to expand the tonal opportunities from my amp that I can’t get unless I have a load of real boxes and mic’s that can make the amp sound like a different brand/amp, if you know what I mean Very excited.

    Hi Shawn, GREAT playing as always! What would you recommend between the Captor x and the Suhr Rl IR mainly for the "feel" under the fingers, in terms of response and fidelity to the touch, as well as for the overall sound quality? I have no chance to try them both and I am very undecided... what interests me most is the sound quality and the touch response, without too many frills, but having a few more possibilities (as in the captor) intrigues me...

    Hey man ! your reviews absolutely NAILS this captor thanks for going indepth - * The questions I'm about to ask and detail with my scenario come from a specific place that I haven't seen many others mention and I'm looking for the simplest, of simplest ways to use this setup, I want to : * keep all my amp heads; the 20,50,100w ones and use this Captor X to be able to play at home volumes * Right now even my 20w Friedman runt head (great master volume tbh ) through my 1x12 with greenback is too damn loud for townhouse practice volumes if i want to play after work at night past 5pm which is only free time 90% of the time with the master vol past 1.5 * let alone even touching my bigger 50 or 100 w in this equation, really even 20 can be loud maybe it's my space walls room wood idk but that's where I'm at right now lol ; SO * Is all I need to do to make this work ; * my guitar - amp - CaptorX ( choose a cab preset like 4x12 with blackbacks or V30s ) - then interface - out to 2 speaker monitors = then start playing? No massive shelf and desk filled with other studio gear mixers pre amps and see of wires etc etc ? ^ * I've never bought tech like this or fiddled with drag and drop plug ins on a computer and dialing things up for hours; as you can tell- and that's exactly what I don't want to spend doing, sitting and dialing these virtual computer speakers simulations for hours - So I need to know if you think * the Captor X can actually emulated the sound of classic speakers I love like my 20 w greenback in my 1x12 and 2x12 marshall cab with V30s ? * It's really good enough of a tone that is close to the real thing ? * Surely if Pete thorn , George lynch and Phil X , Shawn tubbs (you ;) aka tone junkies who are used to high end, coveted vintage cabs and speakers love it with their stamp of approval - then it must sound pretty damn good for home uses then ?? * And most of all ; * Are the speaker emulations EASY to use dial in presets ? * Or will i have to sit for hours the first night with my captor X and drag drop and move things all over a computer screen just to get some tone ? * as cool as the sound could be I don't want to buy a ton of other gear with this captor to get the sound of speakers in a quieter way or spend hours clicking through presets- are the simple 4x12 greenback or 4x12 V30 emulations good enough to NOT sit all day tweaking ? * OR is it like being your own studio man and every different preset has a learning curve that can take a long time to just nail for say the 20w Friedman or 50w ceriatone ? ^ * I wouldnt call myself a purest ; just that at home I'm used to plugging the chord into my Friedman runt or 50w Morris, into my 1x12or 2x12 and play with maybe slight reverb in the fx loop - boom thats it and i can play. * So I always told myself if i go this digital route it has to be simple to setup and sound good, because right now I live my 1x12 and 2x12 but those cabs costed money that isn't really getting used to its full potential by playing amps in a townhouse with volume set to 1/ 1.5 just seems like shame to keep a big 2x12 especially without really getting its full use .. * Yes, Attenuators exist, but not a solid one until you get into 1k - 2k range it seems, after talking to a few friends I found the 2 notes captor X and of course watching your video and many others I have been hooked on what it could potentially offer for some time now since I live in a setting with " noise limitations " this Captor X reallyy looks like the ticket for me. * Please lmk any thoughts answers and tips you might have whenever you can get to it. Thanks in advance cheers from Canada man, all the best 🤟🏻🙏

    I think the Captor X will work for you. It's not like playing straight into a vintage cab but it's a really great-sounding option. This nice thing is being able to play through a bunch of valves and only model on the back end. You still get all of the tube feel from the amp you're using. There's going to be a learning curve no matter what so you'll have to get used to the idea of sorting that out but the Captor X is pretty intuitive. If you don't want to use an interface and computer to just plug in and play, you could just get a set of powered monitors and a small mixer. Run out of the amp into the Captor X and then stereo left and right into the mixer. That would be the lowest tech way to go and it would sound great.

    @@ShawnTubbs Shawn many many thanks and praises from Niagara Canada got my Cap X unit recently after being gone most of the summer and I've gotten way to excited with only using the amps I've mentioned , a friedman runt 20 and Glen Morris 50w GCM just through headphones the george lynch pack, phil X pack and Steve stevens pack for now and I can't believe how GOOD the IR's sound In my headphones ! Not only a mind blowing recording tool this blows my little line 6 multi fx amp setup late night with headphones by a mile haha now next weekend or sometime this month; I'm looking to complete the setup like you said for easy ug and ay practice now that I've loaded up some IR's I enjoy ( steve stevens vintage 4x12 cab with V30s sounds amazing to me for hard rock, metal even classic rock- he painstakingly worked with the engineers to make sure it actually sounds like V30s as he said in his own words in the 2 notes interview "Some IRs don't sound anything like a real V30, I wanted any one of my signature IR's to sound as close to a real early V30 as possible") ^ Last thing I need is interface and these 2 powered monitors because I want to practice or record but mostly practice and churn out Riffs and ideas with the benefits of this Cap X quietly over pushing a real cabinet as I've explained and I'd really like to know from you is are is this bundle of 3 fine for me ? *I'm linking it bellow for you to see* ^ So it would be these rokit KRK powered speakers/"monitors" x2 for the job and this basic focusrite Scarlett Interface? ^ Even tho it's " basic " new this tech definitely would add up to over 1k after taxes so 2 KRKs speakers like these black ones with yellow cones ( super common see them everywhere ) the focusrite Scarlett basic unit 2nd generation 3rd generation etc not really picky and my cap X with my amp of choice hooked up *IS all I need to be on my way correct*? : *Here are links to these items, would really appreciate your 2 cents if these 3 things ( the speakers are a pair I wouldn't buy just by one but 2 speakers plus the scarlet interface ) is enough to get started and have a studio amd quiet practice setup going without really *Needing* to spend more money if I were to just buy these 3 over something brand new and more expensive instore ? ^ Will wait to hear back from ya whenever hope you see this and thanks again for these valuable tips and feedback along with the content / videos on your channel that are always a pleasure to tune into! • @ShawnTubbs

    @ShawnTubbs

    4 жыл бұрын

    Both the Captor X and the Suhr Reactive Load IR are exceptional. I would look at it more from the standpoint of your needs as opposed to which is better because they're both very comparable in quality. If you just intend on using great sounding IR's and don't need to tweak reverbs and eq for any reason, the Suhr might be a better choice. If you really need stereo XLR outs, the ability to go in and change mics on the fly or choose reverbs or add EQ? The Captor X is the better choice.

    Great demo. Thanks! I wonder how it feels compared to an amp, if the response is the same, if the sound carries like an amp and cab does with the same settings or if it breaks up early.

  • @ShawnTubbs

    @ShawnTubbs

    4 жыл бұрын

    If you sit next to your amplifier and play, the response will be the fastest for obvious reasons. There will always be a very slight latency when you run your amp into a reactive load box followed by software but it is indeed very slight. As far as the actual response curve goes or "feel", Two Notes pretty much wrote the book on that. As far as the amp breaking up early or later, it depends on the cabs you choose within the software. I always stick to V30 type models because I'm very familiar with how that speaker responds to my amps. So for instance, if I'm used to how my 60-watt V30 cab reacts to my amp and I choose a 25-watt greenback model in the software, the speaker itself will break up sooner than the V30.

    Thanks Darin, my family and I are doing well and I hope you and yours are staying healthy. I still prefer my OX. It just has more horsepower sonically but that being said, the Captor X is really impressive, especially for the price. The Captor X is certainly better for live use and allows for loading 3rd party IR's as well as midi control. Software-wise I prefer the OX because it's easier to navigate and it also allows for using 2 choice mics on a cab as well as a stereo or mono room mic. That's a big deal for me but not for others. I guess it just boils down to your needs and personal taste.

    Is the OX twice the price better? To me, it is, but my opinion is not so much based on "which is better" as much my needs. I really prefer a dedicated room and mic model along with the ability to choose mic combinations for the cabs. The onboard effects on the OX are exceptional as well and for the most part, the OX has more horsepower but it does come at a price. I thought the Captor X was exceptional sounding, especially at that price point, and it has features that I've not seen elsewhere like the "twin tracker". The software on the Captor X is intuitive and easy to navigate and I was very impressed with the XLR outs as opposed to the TRS outs on most. @ShawnTubbs

    4 жыл бұрын

    The Captor X sounds exceptional and for the money, it's pretty hard to beat. I've been using my OX from the time I demoed it and I still prefer it for a couple of reasons. The OX has dedicated cab mics as well as a dedicated room model and mic selection. This allows me to choose two separate mics for the cab and still be able to choose a room mic and model. The onboard comp, EQ, reverb, and delay are really top shelf and overall, the OX just has more horsepower. I don't feel like the OX is twice the price better, but it is better. I don't at all think you'll be disappointed with the Captor X if you go that direction and the price is certainly more doable compared to the OX.
