Antigua’s minister of foreign affairs Paul Chet Greene said the island’s government had requested information on whether the owner of the BVI company, Wenham Overseas Limited, is on Britain’s sanctions list, in light of “persistent allegations by the Financial Times that the vessels could be owned by Mr Roman Abramovich”. @K S Right on. There’s no way someone can amass such wealth by minding the law and the tenets of common decency. These creeps game whatever systems they operate within, and leverage political power to feed their egos and wallets. Uncle Vladimir (like any despot) has to keep an inner circle of loyal oligarchs to support his power base. Gasprom and other large Russian businesses are nationalized and act as ATMs for these guys.

I live in a small harbour town on the west coast of Canada. And yes, we do see some superyachts, and yes they have support vessels (no Russian vessels so far). Just to clarify, a superyacht in my harbour is 40-60 meters. They shuttle fuel and booze from local marinas (and who knows what else?). We see flags from all over the world and we always marvel at their size and fitment. My old 34' trawler looks rather pathetic alongside, but she does the job. Keep up the good stuff. Thanks

I retired from the commercial maritime world a decade ago and began doing relief stints and deliveries as a Chief Engineer on these big yachts. I signed NDAs to do this line of work, and I won’t violate them at this time, but just let me say this. You cannot be exposed to this space without questioning global economics, obscene wealth, and how it was obtained. It absolutely makes your head swim, and you become very cynical. Let me give an example. On an ocean going tug, as an engineer, I would be lucky to have an assistant engineer, but usually a deckhand who might keep an eye on things while I sleep. On one of the support vessels for a fleet of large super yachts, I had a 1st and 2nd Ass’t Engineer, 2 oilers, an ETO, 2 day workers, a rental car, a credit card and $6000 monthly in petty cash. All this in addition to my rather high day rate. There was never any engineering issue that money and/or more money could not resolve.

I know quite a bit about the marine world, and the thing that makes me shake my head is the massive crew numbers on most of these superyachts. How the hell a 1000 Te vessel needs a crew of 27 (actually outnumbering the passengers) is utterly beyond me - such immense waste.

@@idanceforpennies281 Money laundering is expensive is the short answer. The long answer: the rule of thumb is 20% to 30% of the initial amount of laundered money goes to middlemen, to make it clean. With economies of scale and a good (bad) reputation, that might go to 5%. Why do Russians overpay for Trump properties that they never live in? Same reason. Just do the math: if Putin is worth $300B, as Forbes says he is (at the minimum, some say Putin is worth a cool trillion) and a rule of thumb is your assets should yield 5% a year (minimum) then that's $15B a year that has to be laundered. 5% of that is $750M in laundering fees a year. And that's just Putin. All the other oligarchs probably have at least as much as Putin, collectively. That's what greases the wheels of commerce in the yacht industry. And the above is the "wholesale" rate. Lesser oligarchs probably have to pay 10% to 30% cut. Possibly why the rare coins, rare artwork and diamond markets have not collapsed...demand for such high-value, easy to smuggle items. PS--on occasion you get a drug bust on a yacht, but I imagine this is small potatoes stuff by low-level people. Smuggling drugs in the south part of Spain is for wannabe gangsters...nothing Putin and his lads would soil their hands with.

How many yachts, how many mansions, how many private airplanes, how many toys do you need to fill the vast empty hole where their soul should reside? It's not just the Russian oligarchs. But they are simply the most egregious of them all. All in the name of self gratification and to impress their equally soulless peers. People are nothing but a commodity to them. They may pay them a decent wage, but they demand unconditional loyalty and unconditional obedience yet they would not and do not give it back. We live in a world where greed has taken over. Corporations are bleeding the population white. The recent example of the ferry company in England which deprived hundreds of hard working people of their livelihoods, in flagrant violation of labor laws, all to make more money. And they then had the temerity to tell the national parliament of England they would do it again and have no regrets. Yet this same company hides behind the protection if English law. Here in America, pharmaceutical companies charge enormous sums of money for life saving medications, knowing full well people will pay it because it is their only chance to live. Their CEOs and directors are these billionaires. The list is endless. I have no opposition to people making money, or even getting rich, but there is a point where it becomes obscene and disgusting. Enough said. Sorry for the rant but it angers me. I live in a poor and aging state. People literally go to bed hungry here, little children. Shadow Yachts are not new news to us yachties, not just stuff, but staff. Masseuse's, nannys, dive instructors, pilots, chefs, all of the necessary not guests are on the the shadow yachts. The main yachts got staff of, like 60-90, guest accommodations of 24+, but to the owners, the staff are not real people. Got yer submarines, sailing yachts, ski boats, fishing boats, all right there on a shadow boat. Following right behind, in the style they think they need. NautiStyles and Jared Watney, I believe, all have tours of some of them. To include basketball decks. The crews aren't at fault, fer f's sake, they just think that they've got a great job. Cuz billionaires who stole their countries future for money they didn't earn wasn't an issue. Until now...

Yachts and aircrafts owned by the " oligarchs" were unknown to the common man until u-tubers started to "tantalise" us. It's not the billionaire's faults; if you didn't dig into them, we won't have known. I don't exactly know how the billionaires are to blame for buying the products your companies manufacture and your governments tax very heavily. The Abramovich kind of billionaire is pure and simple. There's no need to seize their investment and properties as long as they are not manufacturing illegal drugs, war arms and ammunition, as long as they are not sponsoring coups and overthrow of governments as British politicians do, as long as they are not rogue politicians pretending to be heads of governments like Biden, Putin, Johnson etc. You know as I do that the real rogues who should be sanctioned are not the Abramovich-type billionaires but the politicians who are war mongers, who are manufacturing arms for wars, who are bent on destroying the world with their viruses, diseases, vaccines, drugs and toppling of 3rd world countries' governments. Let's do a little research and we'll be surprised at the corruptability of our PMs, presidents and so-called parliamentarians. Have we come out of problems created by the Chinese Communist party, democratic party with the help of Wuhan lab guys and Dr Fauci? Most our world still grapples with their virus and now their brother, Putin, from the 18th century has come up with his inordinate ambition to be the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES OF EUROPE. Let's know our enemies.. the politicians in Europe, Americas, Asia and even their stooges in Africa. If you have what the billionaires need, haggle well your prices; you may not be fool forever. Veronica, not real name, had the kind of body that one billionaire liked and they struck a deal. Today, she's a billionaire because she used what she had to get what she needed; it's a double coincidence of needs. Do you remember the Kennedys in US, the Aristotles, the Gates etc? Were the Russians? What righteous noises did you ever make against them? We do know that only oligarchs win elections all over our dirty world, especially in Europe and the US. What have we done about Biden's activities in Ukraine and China? And tell me, what do you think Johnson is gaining in the shuttles to the Arab world? You better leave Abramovich alone and see the ways you can remove the billionaires stooges in your countries' governments.

I wish you would include an explanation for the censorship in your videos, wherever/whenever you choose to use it. Sometimes it's legitimate, but to not state the reasons for the censorship makes it difficult to tell if we have gotten the full story. May I suggest adding it to the video description, or to add a pinned comment to any videos that you ended up censoring? It would be great to understand the issue. Thanks for your time, love the channel 👍🏼👍🏼
