Yet another Secret Abramovich SuperYacht - Changed Hands Day of Invasion | Ep70 SY News

#superyacht #superyachts #yachts #boats #abramovich
Episode 70 SY News
On 24th Feb the vessel changed hands, why does that date sound familiar, because it’s the date of the Russian invasion of Ukraine
According to the Guardian newspaper On 24 February, ownership of the yacht passed from a company previously controlled by Abramovich to a close associate of his, the Russian businessman David Davidovich.
Davidovich told the Guardian that he was the owner of Aquamarine as well as the Jersey-domiciled company MHC Jersey Ltd, which is registered as the owner of the yacht on the maritime database MarineTraffic.
“I can confirm that I am the owner of MHC Jersey Ltd and the Aquamarine yacht,” Davidovich said in a written statement.

Big budget journalism still does a lot of the work but it depends what sources you look at. I would imagine this information has been known to most of European law enforcement for a long time. Just like how in Italy, the police know exactly who the mafia are and what are they involved in. There was just never any real push to do anything about it. And, even now, I bet they all get these yachts back when this all blows over. The super rich are just treated differently. We don't have to like it, to admit it.

I am glad you mentioned the (literally stolen) Airplanes. I was following that story before I found and started watching your channel. It is not just a few hundred planes though, it is over 600 planes (about 2/3 of the commercially owned planes in the country). The leasing companies did not abandon the planes. They asked for them back and Russia refused. I think maybe a couple planes were stopped at international airports. After that they started only flying planes they owned outright internationally and blocked any attempts at recovery. Another point about the Airplanes is that Russia cannot buy replacement parts for any of those planes. And with tight maintenance regulations in aviation, if they use anything but approved parts on the planes, they become effectively worthless as the airworthiness of the plane cannot be guaranteed. The only short term solution is grounding some planes and cannibalizing them for parts. But even this is not a long term solution. And there is no way they will be able to lease any planes again. Apparently leasing planes is common practice in the Airline industry due to the high cost of new planes. Russia really is shooting itself in the foot with its actions as it is unlikely that any companies with lease them planes after this. I guess oligarchs should get into the domestic plane leasing business since they can't spend any money on their SuperYachts.

There's great coverage of the airliner issues on the MentourPilot youtube channel. Many problems similar to the yachts with registration and insurance. It's also interesting because they can't get proper parts for them... As soon as they start putting non-certified parts in them they're completely worthless as they can't be certified airworthy (internationally) ever again. Also, this action means that no Russian airline company is likely to be able to lease planes again for a very long time. No matter what happens with Ukraine, Russian civilian aviation is screwed.

I’ve heard different figures quoted for the value of the seized planes, from 8 billion to 12 billion dollars. Something else to consider - would arresting the yachts and freezing foreign bank accounts of US congressmen put any sort of strain on the congressmen? Oh, it may annoy them, but they’ll have significant assets in the US. Th Russian oligarchs, have been investing rather heavily in foreign (ie - not Russian) businesses, making them especially vulnerable to the tactic of freezing assets. Which is like three orders of stupid on their part, but if you want to control your people, you might not want your people to be rich, so perhaps investing their money locally might not have rated highly for them?

The thing with the Planes is, even when they would get them back they might be worthless. Because of sanctions they don't get spare parts, so the required manufacturer-specific maintenance is no longer possible. If this isn't done and protocoled correctly you won't get them international licensed. They could fly domestic but they would have to take apart half of the fleet to supply parts for the rest and I don't think this works at least not for long before such "Frankenstein-Plane" falls from the Russian sky. They have to get their Antonows, Ilyushin's und Tupolew's back. _Sorry to bother you maritime people with aviation stuff_ 😏

I don't buy that any yacht of any size is "incognito" or "low profile". There must be deeper meanings behind owning so many vessels. I do not accept that such behavior, owning six yachts is for "security" purposes.

If the government can tie the funds that purchased the vessel to ‘proceeds of crime’ they can forfeit the asset (take ownership). But, you can’t do that without due process (ie legal hearing). So, there will be all sorts of lawsuits. Realistically, the governments don’t want to hold onto and maintain these massive vessels through protracted lawsuits, appeals, etc. They’re seizing them to put financial/lifestyle pressure on the beneficial owners (who are friends with Putin), with the hope their aggravation leads to them getting in Putin’s ear.

The russian theft of leased aircraft has been well covered in aviation news. All those planes have also been decertified, which means they can’t be flown anywhere out of russian airspace. Plus, they have no access to spare parts (they’re mostly Boeing) so the only source is to cannibalize other aircraft. This is typical of russian mentality. At the end of WW2, the russians swept into Germany and cleaned out all the machinery from the factories and left everything unprotected at side of the railroad tracks. Trains were supposed to come by and transport to russia. Trains never came, all the machinery rusted and became useless. During the Bolshevik revolution, they took over the steel factories in the Urals. The managers that knew how to keep them running were eliminated, the workers had no clue, furnaces were allowed to be shutdown, molten steel hardened, goodbye steel industry. Very depressing.

@@Matt-yg8ub likewise my friend 😄 I don't know where you're from. But i'm from Denmark and we use very "dry/black humor". Sarcasm and irony. It's risky on the internet sometimes 😂 But... bloody hell, it's my humor and i can't change it. It's true i've been sailing 17 years though. 11 years as trawlerman and then i got tired of that, took navigation on Skagen skipperskole, in northern Denmark, and then 6 years on cargo and cable. Everywhere between Sunny Point N. Carolina to Mumbai India. So i'm familiar with AIS (among other things). Now i'm enjoying my life in beautiful Georgia, Caucasus.

Not to mention that the oligarchs whose yachts are being seized can hardly be said to have earned the billions from honest labour! Thank you for the video.

It looks more like a minesweeper than a yacht! Remember when yachts looked nice? Whoever designed that monstrosity, went a bit overboard…

If you're talking about Ragnar, it's not my favorite yacht, but it's better than those wedding cake white yachts that all look the same. Andromeda is my favorite yacht. I like rugged looking yachts.

The seizure of the planes by Russia definitely pales in comparison to the detention of some oligarchs super yachts. As far as I am concerned, every Russian owned assets outside of Russia, including all of their ships, should be seized and given to Ukraine,
